  1. The chief instructor for my Tae Kwon Do school had been awarded his Black Belt in BJJ earlier this year and had been encouraging all of the "high ranks" like myself to begin training as well :D

I'd had some casual training in BJJ in the past but the Professor for this dojo is WAY far advanced of anything I'd seen before. Lots of respect all around and it's a lot of fun.

For the record, I will not roll with any of the little girls in the kids class. I'd be humiliated I am sure!

  2. I began formally training BJJ so now I am officially a white belt in something for the first time in a long time. The funniest part was a 9 year old girl offering to teach me how to tie my belt

  3. Eh, we're talking about the CP-ness of the movie.

Let's think, we have possibly the ULTIMATE in uncaring and thoroughly callous Corporate Culture.

Lot of cool tech to boot.

I think one of the major points to be made in criticizing works of fiction is that though SciFi may be projecting a future it is informed by the present.

1984 was really about 1948 as seen by Orwell

The seminal short story Cyberpunks which lent its name to the entire genre was inspired by the Punk Rock culture.

Neuromancer was inspired by the politics of the early 80's being ironically published in 1984

If the subject matter made you uneasy, well it never hurt to be challenged by something or the other.

As for "not being possible".... this IS still a cyberpunk game and discussion board right?

    B)

  4. Let me get this straight then Malek. What you're telling me is that Sea Shepherd is to pirate as Xe ne Blackwater is to mercenary?

    :D

That's kind of my opinion as well except in my case I see it as a distinction without a difference

    :P

  5. I rather enjoy it from time to time. Something that bothers me about LeCarre...at least I think it's LeCarre..blame the senior brain fade if I have the wrong author...

The hero is always SUPER powered despite usually not having actually done anything like say...a single pushup since leaving his military service...the EVIL antogonist has plans that will literally decimate the entire human population BUT the hero can't seem to be able to muster any sort of motivation until the villain gratuitiously murders his love interest.

I mean come on...talk about shallow!

  6. Umm..no.

Westerners can slaughter other westerners with remarkable gusto even while expressing the most egregiously racist attitudes toward others.

If however the Sea Shepherds escalate matters by boarding and seizing a Japanese vessel the results would doubtless prove to be extremely ugly.

  7. Just watched this...cyberpunk ... HARD Cyberpunk here people.

The subject matter is bound to poke REALLY hard at a lot of peoples tender spots too.

Two thumbs up and a pair of big toes as well!

  8. Well I think that the point of the article was that in some cases that the non-state navies behave more like pirates than they do navies.

I find it more than passing curious that so many old terms have fallen by the wayside because the sensibilities of the actors are offended.

For example, Soldier of Fortune magazine started publication in 1975 out of a circular that was intended to provide listings for mercenary work.

No one had any issues with being called mercenaires at that time.

Nowadays you can see some people tie windsor knots in their boxers if you call them mercenaries instead of "Private Security Contractors"

So we have a fleet of anti-whalers flying a modified jolly rogers and raising money with the videos they make of their attacks.

  9. There are screwdrivers and then there are screwdrivers. If you are found with a set of jewelers screwdrivers it's unlikely that those would ever be considered to be burglary tool.

If however you have a 12" screwdriver with a 1/2" tip that's been ground to a rough chisel tip against a concrete sidewalk then you've got a nice combination tool for forcing windows and door jams as well as a handy and disposable weapon.

  10. One of the things to keep in mind is what sort of audience draw will an even have.

For example, Top Fuel is considered the "ultimate" drag racing class but even among drag racing fans it's not the biggest draw.

You can get attention for a particular sport as long as you can get some sort of identification of the audience for the participant.

Thus NASCAR draws better than Top Fuel because the sheet metal of the cars looks like something you can buy in the showroom

in MMA or Boxing the Heavyweights get a lot of attention because the target audience all weigh close to 205+ and you should SEE the amount of flack some of the fighters get over things like testosterone replacement therapy.

So a Full Metal Weight Lifting competition would likely be no more of a draw than a forklift competition.

Think Tractor Pulls and Monster Truck Rallies for some events.

Now I have a long standing and intimate interest in combat sports of any type, even the ludricous fighting robots and Pro Wrestling :D

To be honest I'd be very interested to see something like "The Ultimate Olympics" with drug use wide open. However, too much metal in a future "Paralympics would be no more interesting than a side show
