DNA as a storage media has the potential to replace digital media
Things are going more and more "organic" as we progress. DNA also has the potential to maintain a much higher data integrity as well. Cool stuff

you all are overthinking it.
Dick Jones: I had a guaranteed military sale with ED209! Renovation program! Spare parts for 25 years! Who cares if it worked or not! That sums it all up right there

If you're designing an animal it helps to keep in mind the actions of natural selection.
Let's hypothesize an ultimate predator. It has the "best" of every sense, eyes like a hawk, nose like a bloodhound, infrared detection like a pit viper, heck let's toss in echo location.
We might think, "Wow, let's put that in the chassis of a saber tooth cat..."
So why didn't such a critter appear and dominate the planet?
Energy systems, that's why
Look at a rhinoceros, a hold over from the Pleistocene that has extremely poor eyesight and all its other senses are mediocre at best. Still, it wasn't too big to survive and it prospered until a species of apes evolved to learn to use fire and then came to the mistaken belief that the rhinos horn could cure erectile dysfunction
Now if I were a ruthless and amoral corporate type with the access to the sort of genetic engineering this would require I'd resurrect Australopithecus and maybe Neanderthal for my show off exhibits.
Heck, make a layered defensive system. assorted critters with highly developed sensory systems who trigger alerts for heavily armed and armored neo-neanderthal Dire Wolf handlers

How about being able to interact with the AR of other people so as to photoshop your own image?

It'd be like a lightning strike.

wow...
just...wow

Interesting... can this identify the gene responsible for lawn-mower theft?
I see what you did there!
Good to see you

fun fact:
The first creature on the planet to have neurons were jellyfish (as far as science can determine)
At the very least jellyfish are the simplest creatures with neurons and first appeared on earth about 650 million years ago.
There's no appreciable difference between the neurons of a jellyfish and any other animal on the planet including humans. We just have a LOT more
Folks, looks like we have a hit on our hands!

Yes, and I'm already doing it
BTW Eugenics is a fairly stupid concept that rather than being based on actual scientific principles was more a "dog breeders" approach to a racist philosophy from the 19th century. It's got no more to do with this than "intelligent design" does with anthropology

You are missing the point, with this EVERYONE can device strategies to optimize themselves according to their own genetics.
Everyone can be their own genetic engineer.
Everyone is can be their own Khan.

First testings are always the worst. Not saying that black belt testing is any easier but some of the mental strain is missing.

Complete gene scans available for $1000. Also of interest are the identification of traits that provide benefits rather than just the focus on diseases.
I'm sure some will bewail the coming of the ability for small, compact scan units that can detect and sort genetics of passersby.
The notion of being able to use retroviral treatment to induce "unbreakable" bones and enhanced muscle growth along with leanness is intriguing as well

Congratulations!

It'd be nice if a modern scifi movie would have actual genetics rather than some variation of Lysenkoism.

I've come to the conclusion that a flourishing global civilization with an abundance of free movement and trade would make for a much better cyberpunk world.

Plus there is something ellegant about useing German Steel to Kill a religious Fanatic.
I'd have to say that'd it's Ironic. That of course is VERY Cyberpunk

I must say I'd love to see the looks on their faces if you look serious, roll, check your papers then say, "You've been disarmed and are lying on your back...you can't feel your legs..."

Just … wow.
How come we didn't end up this cool?
Wait, you mean you're not?

How about setting up a camp of NPC"s who upon taking fire aggressively charge out laying down massive firepower accompanied with grenades and pre-aimed mortar rounds in addition to claymores popping and flares going off overhead.
Look up enfilade machine gun fire, interlocking fields of fire as well as the concept of "beaten zone" and "plunging fire"
