  1. I think a lot of it comes down to the fact that novels do not make good films.  You either have to leave huge chunks out (Dune comes to mind) or simplify it to the point of idiocy.  On the other hand, short stories seem to have about the right amount of plot for a film (neither Johnny Mnemonic nor Total Recall seemed to leave out much plot).

Well I was a little worried about Bookwyrm nominating "Blade Runner" !!!

You probably won't be suprised that I hate Tolkein as well!  But, yeah, it's the supposed connection with Do Androids... that irritates me.  It is probably a good film in it's own right, but they seem to have taken a couple of names and the idea of replicants and thrown the rest of the book away.  And as to whether Deckard is a replicant?  NO HE ISN'T - READ THE F#@*ING BOOK!!

Sorry, rant over (can you tell I'm a Phil Dick fan?)

And Malc I agree that the beastie in Split Second is disappointing, but they did do a good job of concealing it until the denoument.

  3. I've seen worse plots in major Hollywood films (Independence Day comes to mind), but the artistic dirction in t is incredible.  I love the use made of harsh artificial lighting, and there are some great little touches in the background, like the posters for weills disease.

  4. Okay, so now the stats are

    Small Asp (16"/21")

    Mel; WA +1; Conc. P; Avail. C; Dam 1D6+1; Range 1m; Cost 35eb

    Large Asp (26"/31")

    Mel; WA +1; Conc. J; Avail. C; Dam 1D6+2; Range 1m; Cost 35eb

They also come in a non-metallic version for an extra 20eb.

Asps give a bonus of +1 initiative on the first round they are used, and +2 to any hold manoevers attempted with them.

    How's that?

  5. How can you possibly nominate Split Second!!?  It's depiction of London in a globally warmed future is simply stunning (not to mention the rarity of any sci-fi film set outside of America).

Just remembered two particularly incomprehensible Japanese films - Tetsuo, and Tetsuo 2: Bodyhammer.

  6. Personally, I've found the best way to make netrunning quick and easy is, using a sharp knife, to remove the netrunning rules from the book and file them in the bin.  Then use NPC's for all the party's netrunning - no dice rolls needed.

However, cybersmily, your system looks good although I would have given a DIFF bonus of +5 for sysop or +10 for AI.

  7. Right, so far it's looking like it should be (assuming 1eb=2A$)

    Small Asp (16")

    Mel; WA +1; Conc. P; Avail. C; Dam 1D6+2; Range 1m; Cost 20eb

    Large Asp (21")

    Mel; WA +1; Conc. J; Avail. C; Dam 2D6; Range 1m; Cost 35eb

    with 26" (2D6+1) costing 45eb

    and 31" (2D6+2) costing 55eb

They also come in a non-metallic version for an extra 20eb.

Asps give a bonus of +1 initiative on the first round they are used, and +2 to any hold manoevers attempted with them.

    Any objections?

  8. The concealability codes are

    (P) - Pocket, pants leg or sleeve

    (J) - Jacket, coat or shoulder rig

    (L) - Long coat

    (N) - Not concealable

    The availability codes are

    (E) - Excellent

    © - Common

    (P) - Poor

    ® - Rare

    Hope that helps.

  9. True, but 14 is the base we're both working from.

Although, really, this is an incredibly dumb way to go about it.  I would rather pay someone to hack into the C-SWAT computers and mark the guy down as a cop killer.  Then just phone it in...

  10. For the last step of the damage conversion I subtract 10.5 instead of 16.5.  it seems to work fairly well.

    Snowtiger -

It's called Guns, Guns, Guns (3G3 for short).  It's published by BTRC (Blacksburg Tactical Research Center) and its ISBN 0-943891-19-1.  I presume it's still being published but I don't know for sure (my copy is from 1991).

What is the UKT system like?

  11. On the other hand, Monster...

You're coming out of the dark street, so the borg is silhoutted (+2 instead of -3), and if you use vomit gas on him before you shoot him in the head you can get +4 for target immobile, and use a smartchipped (+2) SMG on 3 round burst (+3) then assuming all the other stuff (snapshot etc.) that turns it into a roll of 9 (I think) to hit with 1-3 bullets.  If you want to be really nasty, then use an asault rifle on full auto (+2 or 3) for an impressively large amount of lead in a very small space indeed!

  12. But Snowtiger,

put an axe or sword in the hands of a really good martial artist and he will probably kill you even quicker than with nonchaku.  And a broken skull isn't as bad as having your skull split open.  Given the choice I know which weapon I would rather be hit by.

And as for speed, an axe is probably slower than the nunchaku, but a sword certainly isn't, certainly anything lighter than a broadsword.  Some swords (like rapiers) are faster because they are designed primarily for thrusting.

    Keep stalking.wink.gif

  13. Sounds good to me.  Also it should probably give a +1 or +2 bonus to hold manoevers in H2H combat.

Actually, looking at the melee damages, nunchaku are way overpowered.  They do more damage than an axe!!?  I think they should be downgraded to 2D6 and swords and axes moved up to 3D6, unless someone knows something about nunchaku that I don't.

  14. After talking with a friend of mine (who knows about these things) I think the stats might be

Type Mel; WA +1; Conc. P; Avail. P; Dam 2D6

I don't know about price though.  I like the idea of +1 to init when fast drawing, but I was curious to know if anything had been published already.

    Thanks.
