  1. We do not keep stereotype roles either,

and lower the restrictions of career skills a bit, of what is to be chosen. But we keep special abilities, only, that the player normally may chose the one best suiting his concept.

On the other hand we give some caps on starting skills, as you could easily PG in CP.

Also, I would not allow players to chose their starting skills absolutely customized, as you are then able to pick every play-effective skill and posess all important skills from the start.

We allow players in a group to spread the important skills along the group, so every skill is present, as this encourages to work together, but "multitask productively, and were highly capable operatives to say the least." combined in a single person sounds like a disadvantage for gameplay to me.

So we use the formula: Lower restrictions, but block PGing.

Hey lady, you started this thread by refering to H&K owners (of which I am not) as gun nuts. THerefore us Sig owners had to stand up in their defense.

ALthough strange coiincidence that all the firearms discussed in this thread thus far are of European origin...

    Woohoo,

I did not say all H&K owners are gun nuts. I just said, HKpro.com is a quite gun nutty site (although, as I even admitted in the starting post, some of the technical facts are quite interesting, but not the proud presentation of real word events where H&K guns are used).

Well... that they are all european... suppose that's were the good stuff is made? :p

And they're written by idiots.  The armor rules in general are pretty cack.

    Mark(psycho)Phipps( HAHAHA! )

    Wow - I totally agree.

But there is a different thread for that, isn't it?

  4. I think the problem is not the view on cybernetics,

it is the view on humanity.

Even if you are cool in your society / enclave with lots of cyberware, and you think it is great, you are away from humanity.

Of course you should consider that a 'borg has a different view on another 'borg and therefore some disadvantages should not apply, but most of the empathy-skills are not so much those that are freaky alternative cyberreligious ones.

Let's take an example with a skill most of you find interesting ;) : seduce.

You say. "So why am I less able to seduce someone from the same "caste"... " First: You should use, as it is stated in the rules, here rather (ATT+EMP) / 2. Second, I would suggest, you have to use the lowered empathy - but the lowered empathy of your "victim", who is also heavily augmented, should explain why you need a lower success grade (if you use standard success graded rolls with seduction, if you use competitive rolls of both people involved, there you directly have the result of the lowered empathy value).

Just my two cent. €-cent, of course ^^.

  5. Hm, cameres were present then also, I just didn't care about them... well, but I believe it is quite different, when the camera is the only thing you are acting for, I draw a lot of assurance from the audience, because it reacts.

  6. I think Bullets explanations are true, also. With your personal example of tattoes - of course it was a bit dramatized in the article, but a humanity loss of 0.5 points for a glowing tattoo won't affect you at all, not even in CP standard rules.

As not only, as Bullet pointed out, you give away a part of your "physical" humanity, when losing an eye or a hand, you are also very likely to feel superior. Goddam, you can see better than this jerk... you are able to crush this waterbag with a single punch...

I suppose you behave far less human. Just hear the explanations of some people that lay their hands on a gun: They describe, they feel more secure, more powerful, and so on. Of course it is not the same for every person - but it may happen. And the different reactions, whether it affects you or not, are represented by rolling dice.

  7. Since the grenades seem to be covered quite well now,

something I find very interesting personally: How to use a high accuracy sniper rifle? I mean, in an ordinary game, it is hard to use... to find a good spot, as your team normally moves... so tell me, how do you use snipers in "ordinary" games, or do you just screw rifles and only go for handguns and submachineguns?

The point is, my Solo owns of course a high precision rifle (amongst many other things), but I hardly come to use it...

  8. I loooove acting :).

I was once allowed to play a french revolutionary, it was fun, I even got the accent right. And on the stage we were drinking wine and singing la Marseilleise and smoking, it was really cool.

Acting is especially fun when role playing, and you pose or pantomime while describing what your char does.

Anyway, if I was evil overlord of the world, I would declare the title to be evil overlady.

  9. To be honest,

I myself have some psychology-background (and I will start to study it soon), and my mum works as a social paedagogue (no idea what the proper translation from german may be), and the things described by this girl in the article that works in a body shop are quite near to reality. Just try to observe people with mobile phones in a tube...

I know, the rules can suck away a lot of EMP - but it keeps players picky, and you won't have full borgs so soon. In our games, we usually keep cyberware quite restricted (for instance, we tripled the price, it just seemed more right) and reserve it for those characteres, where it suits well for the role playing or professional background. But if they don't suit your game - just kick them, every one as he wants, right? :)

  10. Hm,

I really don't know much about martial arts, but for game balancing, I would not let boni stack even if they come from two arts with the same original form.

I would handle it this way: Take the arithmetic middle (no idea about the prober english term, I mean adding the two boni up and dividing by 2). This is in no case better than the higher single bonus, so be generous and allow your players to use the higher single bonus ;). I mean, I don't see that kick boxing and Savate should stack for giving a +8 bonus... and apparently, they have the same origin.

Perhaps in real life it is that way, that your kicks become twice as accurate, if you know Savate and kick boxing (although I doubt that), but I would not allow chars stacking boni this way.

So I argument only with game balancing ;).

that website www.villainsupply.com is rather very cool.
are you a regular shopper Strawberry-Cream??

Didn't you recognize me in the "customer of the month" section? :)

  12. Seems like we really live in different realities.

I mean, are you really so sure that you have to defend yourselves with guns from all those evildoers (muahaha) that run amok?

I feel more safe in an unarmed society, where I can step into a fight without the risk that someone looses his nerves and uses his "personal defence" weapon.

See it this way: If an "ordinary person" has a slight chance of using a gun against another ordinary person, then I think the probability of getting shot is just lower in an unarmed society.

Like the nice bobbies in London... sorry, I think it is not a human right to own a gun ;).

Besides, this goes astray from the topic, I was trying to discuss gun nuts and people who would want to go to bed with a survivalist friends assault rife collection, instead of his 20-something daughter. Rockwolf exactly got my point :).

Why is it that everyone who's ever been in a "situation" with an undermotivated, untrained IDIOT thinks that "See?  I got out fine and I never even had to use violence..." when guys like Hanns and I get stuck with the psychotic, wigged-out crackheads who are so dopesick that they would cut their own mother's neck to get a rock? :p

    Mark(psycho)Phipps( HAHAHA! )

    Quote

Perhaps the situation is different where the most people here live, and I don't say that guns or soldiers or policemen are obsolete - I just say that it is dangerous to glorify them or make them ubiquitous.

    - myself

    So,

if I was surrounded by psychotics, I would probably long for a weapon also - but so far, I think getting hot pants because a gun fires 20.000 rouns without jamming is a bit weird ^^. Although the figure seems impressive :). No offence intended ;).

I don't say, violence is not a conflict-solving solution - I just say, that it, imho, has a very low priority and has to be avoided if possible. And the glorification of guns, not the exchange of necessary technical data and experiences, seems, at least to me, dangerous, and the euphory with which some people talk about guns seems, also at least to me, quite amusing sometimes (if it wasn't so earnest...).

But, hey, everyone sees some "hobbies" as weird.
