  1. Trouble:

Tradge can be found at the planning meeting with Smith, Viper and the nomads, getting him away is not difficult and he comes down to take a look.

"I don't recognize her, and though it suits you guys to act like I'm in charge, I'm really not. There's Mary, Bennett, Corfield and a few others, they've all been around as much as me and any one o'them has as much right to lead as me."

"I can't forget that, because you won't always be here and if I push it it's nasty for me when you go, hein?"

"Is there a difference? Looks like fixing her up will take a lot of effort, but I'm not cold blooded enough to kill her and gut her. But if we don't do anything for her she dies anyway."

"I think we send her back, or see if they'll ransom her anyway. If not, see if she's any kin and failing that dump her at the med centre."

    Renata:

She doesn't look like dying immediatly. A day or two without attention. Quite a bit longer with the best you could, but almost certainly won't, do for her.

The girl has the look of someone cornered, in pain and thoroughly defeated. And its very hard to look cornered when you dumped in the middle of the floor. She tries to pull herself to a wall but nothing will respond, you can see her knuckles go white as she tries to grip the floor and then gives up with a sob as she can't move herself.

         Step, step, step, step.

         Your feet circle her.

The words come softly, slowly, and with odd pauses when the pain in her ribs hits her as she breathes,

"Rose, Rose Shannon - they call me Black. Marcus sent out a posse to hit back soon as possible. Death Walker wanted to take everybody. He wasn't too upset when Roadrash didn't come back, but when Brown Noise got hit today he said they had to do something. Marcus talked him down, said we weren't ready yet."

"So that was it, come in, spray lead, let you know the Arzin are still around. Seeing your friend out in the open was just an added bonus, so we split up."

Yes, they are nice scratcher's aren't they?

    Ah Fu:

The camera guys gets all the footage he wants, you'd think no one knows what a burning car looks like and pans the camera up towards where you are. He can't see you, but it looks like someone is beginning to take an interest in what is going down.

    Ivan:

         Wash, srcub, scrub, rinse.

         Streach, streach, streach.

Mary has found the biggest dressing gown they have for you. If you can imagine a mini-dress made of towelling that's a rough idea of what it looks like on you.

  2. Oz watches the exchange between the 'runners and Larry with thinly disguised amusement

"The Netripper! a second, pimply-sounding voice interrupts.  I'm the Netripper!  It's part of the deal, Larry!  Tell her!"

        <Yeah kid, whatever>

He probably watches too much vid.

The tatoo he files away in the corner of his mind, it'll come to him later, maybe.

Oz hears Stubbs out and make's sure he's the first to speak, "5G's for ten days work? Sure thing, I'll need to ring the yard and tell 'em I won't be around, but apart from that. I'm cool and in with it."

"What's the situation if we need to get hold of some more gear? Things sound like there might be a bit more lead flying around than usual, and what's the opposition like?"

  3. Oz looks around him as they head in, marking out the route and security guys in case a quick exit (or unwanted entrance) should ever become necessary. He hopes it isn't.

<Why do some people never eat pizza crusts? Why is that?>

He takes a quick look at the position in the chess game, but keeps his own counsel.

"Hi, guys.  Thanks for coming by so late.  Grab a beer or a drink and some pizza if you want it, and have a seat.  Malkie, they got a card game going in the dining room.  Why don't you go check it out?"

"Thanks," Oz walks over, looks for a plate or napkin and  picks up two slices of Sweetcorn and Pepperoni and a can of a diet soda before taking a seat on the end.

  4. Not really.

They are almost entirely background, with a few bits of tech in there. There are no "rules" for running a corporation in game.

Essentially they are source books which deal with two coroporations rather than cities or regions. What they are up to, what their histroy is, what they do, how they do it and how well off they are. Along with write ups of some of the key people - the game stats aren't especially useful, but the characters and motiovations are.

There's no series but the write ups in each are:

    1: Arasaka and IEC

    2: Lazarus and Militech

3: Petrochem and Sov Oil (With some stuff on the 2nd Corporate War)

Of course after reading Corp 1 I've come to the conclusion that Arasaka are kinda the good guys.

    Anyway:

I'll summarize Corp 1's write up of Arasaka:

    Precis - Page 8

    History - 9-10

    Main products and Intent 10-16

    Key People - 16-21

    Current Market Strategy - 21-22

Uniforms Equipment and Personnel - 23-27

Offices and Key Facilities - 28-30

    Special Facilities - 30-32

    Resources and Stock 32-34

    Running Arasaka 34-5

    Mini - Adventure 35-42

    Maps 43-44

  5. It's hard to tell.

PbP is my thing, and I like gaming "in public".

PbEm by it's nature doesn't leave traces.

Playing in chat is effectivly more or less the same as playing PnP (Pen and Paper) or FtF (Face to Face) except you can come from all over the place. I've never done it, but it is the closest to "the real thing" in terms of pacing.

  6. Currently I am playing in a T20 game which you can read about here:

    OOC:

    http://enworld.cyberstreet.com/showthread.php?t=64842

    IC:

    http://enworld.cyberstreet.com/showthread.php?t=65776

    http://enworld.cyberstreet.com/showthread.php?t=70239

There are currently at least three versions in print (In the UK, don't know about Oz)

    1) A reprint of the Original Game and initial expansions in all it's "die during character creation" glory. I don't own this, but I have seen it.

    2) GURPS Traveller - Which is one of Steve Jackson's sublines and is probably the best supported incarnation of Traveller at the moment. This was how I "got" Traveller, though I've never played in it. The books are beautiful.

    3) T20. Which marries traditional Traveller generation into the D20 system. While you might not expect this to receive many fans on a 2020 forum, it's actually quite a nice system. It's rather complex and there's little/no game world background in the core book. It is accordingly rules heavy, my edition is insanely poorly edited, later versions are supposdely better. The fact that I might have the better version is too awful to contemplate.

Despite this, I love the CGen system and should I ever DM D&D would love to adapt something similar.

See the OOC thread above for how long CGen took - though the fact that only me and the GM had the T20 book and one other player had played the original game might well also have had something to do with it.

GURPS is it's point based self and you either like GURPS or you don't, but it's easy enough to explain.

T20 I can try and explain in thus (using some 2020 terms:

    Roll stats.

Roll for first part of lifepath.

Accrue and spend skills and (maybe) stat increases.

    Repeat as necessary.

Decide what money and benefits you gained from your employment.

I can't explain it better without knowing how well you know D&D3 or D20.

  7. Quote (Hanns @ Jan. 12 2004,23:13)
The US executed more than a few Nazis and Imperial Japanese officers after WWII for war crimes and crimes against humanity. It's not like we don't have precedent or anything.

I think you'll find the Allies executed people after WWII, the British, USSR and a few others were there as well.

  8. "Ok, shouldn't take us too long to get there. Unless he specified urgent I'm not going to push it."

Oz glides the car through the streets, keeping right on the dot of the speed limit and breaking in good time for everything. Not hurrying, not hustling - just nice and steady.

"The car's fine, so far as I can tell. When we get the chance I'll go over it mechanically and take a good look under the hood."

Oz takes the green with his left hand and it disappears into one of his breast pockets without him moving his right hand or even taking his eyes of the road.

        ------------------------------------------

Oz gives a nod to Chantry, "Hey man," and looks at Malkie - if he needs to know who he is he'll get told.

He holds out his hand as Porter does the introductions, "Ozcar Grondberg, driver, tech and all round nice guy", he grins with the sense that at least one of those statements is a lie. You're pretty sure which one it is.

"You working with us on this, whatever it is Chantry? Good so get in with some new faces around here."

"Shall we go in, I'm sure it's nicer inside."

    OOC:

Has Oz heard of Malkie by rep?

  9. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHH!

    Ok.

I can understand if you don't want to carry on 1:1

Do you want to try for some more players, as Black Ball's would be a suitible place to introduce some?

    Or leave it?

  10. "Yeah, I'm cool," Oz nods to crooked nose and cigar dude, "I think that concludes our business gentlemen," he checks for nothing of Falfa's left in the trunk and then slams the lid shut and walks around to the driver's door, "See you around sometime I'm sure."

He slips into the car and starts the engine, pulling slowly out of the lot and heading for a main road, "So where we going?"

  11. Ah Fu's tirade discourages the locusts about as much as the nearby burning car with occassional rounds cooking off, which is to say, not a hell of a lot.

He notices however, that a small group of spectators have gathered - including one guy with a shoulder carried vid cam filiming the wrecked vehicels.

    Please don't underestimate the enemy.

They are smart, brave and believe 100% in what they are doing.

You might not agree with them, but that doesn't make them stupid.

The "enemy" in this case is United States. The terrorism that happens is due to something. No one wakes up and thinks "Hey today seems like a good day to go around killing people". It's something that happens as a counteraction against something. The Cyberpunks in CP2020 are rebelling against the corporations. The Muslims are rebelling against a world order where western countries are allowed to suck them dry on oil, and they are also going through an internal cultural crash as western cultures seep into their societies one way or the other.

The United States, however, just crushes them like a lawnmower does grass, and then get surprised when suddenly everybody doesn't love them and praise them as they used to after the WW2 (when they actually DID contribute with something). THe US is the most sneaky bully that ever arose as a super power in this world. And what's worse is that everybody just blindly accepts it.

Last time I checked the US were not trying to kill me.

    AQ would quite like to.

    Given that,

Which of these should I consider my enemy?

As for the underlying causes of terrorism.

Yes, no one wakes up and says, "Gee I feel like killing 3000 innocent people today."

However, given that many of the Arab regimes have done rather well out of oil wealth, are set to do better, and that as has been noted OBL's family are not short of a bob or two, the "revolt against US global wealth and power" angle doesn't hold water.

OBL's main stated aim has been to get infidels out of holy Saudi territory. This, I cannot help but notice, he has now acheived. Then there is the whole "destroy Israel" angle, which would probably be a bad thing but is a legitimate political goal

And if you think the US are the worst Superpower ever to emerge, well.

Ask yourself if the world would be a better place if it was being run by the USSR, Chinese, Mongols, Romans, Turks, or just about anybody else who has been in a comporable position.*

Go read some history and develop a sense of proportion.

    * I seem to recall even Sweden getting involved in a religious war during the brief period you were a superpower.

Trying to make the excuse that the US is somehow at fault is both arrogant and stupid.

You know, you're right, because all western policy has always been enlightened and in everyone's best interest and no mistakes have ever been made.

    Solely at fault? No.

Practically perfect in every way? No.
