  1. As per canon:

There are three basic types of CHOOH2, with 2, 4 or 6 CH00H groups on them:

    Light: Internal Combustion Engines

    Medium: Jets and Turbines

    Heavy: Ships and electrical generators.

Any engine can run on any of these but is most efficient at what it's designed to burn.

  2. Well:

    7.63 Mauser/7.62 Tokarev

    5.57g bullet

    455 m/s

    576 J

    9mm Parrabellum

    7.45 g bullet

    398 m/s

    584 J

The bullet energy is much the same, but the armour penetration is based on the cross sectional area of the bullet

    7.63 is 7.861 squared = 61.79 mm2

    9mm is 9.030 squared = 81.54 mm2

So the Tokarev should have about 25% better armour penetration.

    Hmm, poor man's Five-Seven?

  3. The Space Station is a waste of time and money.

The Moon base will be a waste of time and money.

All putting a man in a spacecraft does is make it more expensive, shorter ranged and less efficient.

    Bahhh>!

  4. Note my use of the phrase "carries weapons".

And I was referring to Afghanistan.

I believe blithely walking around a US city with a gun will get you pulled over and questioned in short order. I do not believe the 2nd Ammendment covers anything about taking your Ar15 to the mall. There are many people here far better qualified to talk about weapons carriage laws in the US, but I assure you they exist.

It is still I believe possible to drive cross country in the US without engaging in a firefight or passing a roadblock every 50 miles. The same can't/coudln't really be said for Afghanistan.

  5. Well he got elected in part by not being anything like Clinton.

Clinton had multiple definitions of the word "is"

Bush comes across that he might not have even one.

    I say comes across.

    [rant]

But then he was elected by americans, not by smug self-satisfied psuedo-intellectual middle classs europeans who consider themselves superior.

    [/rant]

  6. "Ideally, there'll be no contact at all between you three and myself except for when I call with a job, and when you call to tell me it's done, if that's necessary.   If something happens to me you'll probably know because the calls and the money will stop coming.  If that's the case, you guys are on your own."

<Been there, done that. It wouldn't be the first time...>

Oz will drop by his place and some up some spare clothes. Then pop downstairs and explain to Jennifer that he'll be "out of the office" for just under a fortnight.

Do a little bit of shopping for some toiletries, a few books (which anyone will notice cover 20's and 30's gangsters) and pick up a couple of MREs and some bottled water should anything prove needed on a stake out. Also two blankets and an inflatable pillow.

    Give Porter his 50eb...

When he gets the chance he'll go over the Mace and check it through for any duff mechanics or electrics - don't want to get pulled for a stop light. "Reminds me, just a question, what do we say if the fuzz ask us why this is in the boot?"

Pick up a mastoid that's compatible with anything the other two have.

Go over his guns, clean and check. Do the same with the rest of his equipment.

Get some shut eye and head back to head office.

  7. The accuracy problem with this idea would be immense. The penetrator will make a very small hole and matching the ballistics of that to the payload charge would be very difficult.

And if you get it wrong you just fired an HE charge into the roof over your head. Not goood.

  8. Ivan:

She looks at you, fairly confident and unfazed, "Well, you could make Stanster here eat the camera. I'm sure you would, I don't think you will though."

Her companion puts the camera down and shoos the locals away out of earshot, still keeping an eye on you however.

Isolation ensured she resumes her conversation, "You see, Ivan*, I can call you Ivan, can't I? Good, my name is Sandy Bergstrom** I run a show on cable across the city, when I'm having a good day maybe further than that."

"Now, word reaches me, as it does of a little turf fight between the Silver Flames and the Arzin. Fairly nice, lots of human interest runs well in the 'burbs in a "thank #### I don't have to live there" way. So, I intend to get as good a coverage of this story as I can."

"Now, you can do one of three things. You can ignore me, in which case I will just get on with my job, or we can help me out. In which case I get the inside scoop, and you get to have me make you out to be whatever you want."

"You want to look badass? I'll make you people #### themselves just thinking about fighting you. Fancy yourself as a ladies man? I'll have you voted one of Night City's most eligable batchelors within the week."

"Money can't buy that kind of publicity my friend."

    * Yes she does know your name. Which might be an odd coincidence, or she might really know her stuff.

** You've heard of her. She is on the level here, so far as you know. She has a fairly popular investiagtive/"reality" show with a good following and a rep for keeping her word and having a few favours to pull in should anyone mess with her.

    Renata:

        She shivers slightly.

        Fear?

        Pain?

        Memory?

"He might fight your boyfriend. Whether he'd keep his word is another matter. 'course if he's dead..."

She's beginning to calm down now, given that you haven't got out any red hot pliers or electrodes yet and that the conversation has thus far been remarkably civilised.

"Is you guy good enough? I've seen what Death's done to people who've pissed him off. He's crazy! If he went uptown C-SWAT would punch his ticket for sure."

She draws breath, "No, I don't know what Marcus wants. He don't party with the rest of us, don't enjoy any of the bitches. But then he ain't one of us. Too damn straight."

    Trouble:

Tradge is looking mildy perturbed that this might all come down to a battle of champions, but he's not saying anything.

  9. Tricky, what makes some a legal or illegal combatant is rather hard to pin down. In law there should be a clear distinction between combatants and non-combatants (many of the laws, customs and useages of war fall down flat if you can't make that distinction).

Uniform or some distinguishing mark is one way of doing that, carrying arms openly is another.

Now whether any of those distinctions are tremedously useful in an environment where 90% of the adult male population carried weapons openly is another matter.

As for Laws of War. Some are agreed legislation and conventions, which you can agree to sign up to or not. But if you are going to sign up, expect to have them enforced. Customary law is another matter, being the agreed implicit comme il faut state of play. But it's hard to agree exactly what customary is.

But I don't think anyone's culture advocates mass rape, the killing of children or other such wholesome activities. So there is common ground to work off of.

    --------------------------------

It's not that they are being treated as POWs and hence covered by the conventions (name, rank, number etc), nor is it that they are being treated as criminals, nor is it that they are being held under anti-terrorism legislation. Rather is that they are legal limbo and the powers involved appear to be pretty much whatever the excutive says they are.

    Legally that is highly dubious.

In terms of real politique I'd regard it as a tactical error.

In the longer term it disturbs me that the US/West/Coalition are apparently willing to relinquish the highest of moral high grounds in the name of short term expediency. Not just in this matter, but in the dealing with and supporting regimes that happen to be morally repugnent on the "Our son of a bitch basis."

  10. Oz takes his bag and checks the 'phone's battery. Dial tone heard he places it in his pocket. ""Meyer" is fine for me gentlemen," the ATM card dissapears into one of his velcroed overall pockets. The pass key he puts in his coat pocket next to the 'phone.

He listens quietly as Chantry makes his request, draining the last soda from the can.

  11. "Oscar Tango One to Santa Maria, we are ready to depart," Kea waits for the doors to open and then eases the shuttle out and back to the comet. He talks without looking at Danielle, his eyes pivoting from window to sensors to gauges and back, "At least there is no screwing around with explosives to go wrong. We should have brought a snow blower."

  12. Quote
Hopefully the one lasting player will be able to fill everyone in a little better.

Currently the remainder of the group is meeting to get together in the capital and port city Baku.

I would like to know if anyone would like to take on the names and basic areas of expertise if not the characters and stats of previous players.

    That would be me:

    The story so far:

A party has been assembled in the US to "make trouble" in Sov Oil's back yard - the Caspian. The aim was basically to trash their stuff, mainly from the water. The group consisted of a local contact, a freelance ex-SEAL team and several techs/nomads/boat pilots/fixers.

After a safe journey to Georgia things began to go wrong on the road to the house in Azerbaijan. The groups convoy got caught in the middle when Sov Oil forces were ambushed by local guerillas.

Several people where injured or killed. The team's liason fled with the medic. The SEAL team decided to walk their way out and were (presumably) blown to bits by responding Sov Oil helicopters.

        What was left behind was:

Estabon (Aquatic Nomad) - Formerly played by Sirus)

        http://www.cyberpunk.co.uk/forum....3;t=672

Damien (Tech) - Played by Fix, but dormant.

         http://www.cyberpunk.co.uk/forum/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=3;t=670

Jason Creedy (Tech?) - Formerly played by O'borg.

         http://www.cyberpunk.co.uk/forum/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=3;t=110

He has since had both legs blown off and replaced with Soviet Cyber...

These three were succured and evacuated by five horse mounted mercs working with the guerillas and taken to the base camp.

These five are run by me, they consist of:

Fawcett - 40 something Brit merc with passing resemblence to Edward Fox.

          Natasha - Cossack Vet/Medic.

Ivan, Sergei and Aspel - Grunts and mooks.

Contact with the employers by SAT 'phone arranged a meeting with a Fixer - Eight Ball, in Baku in a few weeks time. Fawce contacted a local smuggler, Ebin and his guard Hanna (Both played by GM2023) who transported them to the arranged safe house at Lenkoran and then on to Baku.

Jason and Esteban were left there to check things out and sort the equipment out while the rest went on to Baku to meet up with Eight Ball.

The group were on their way to the meet when things finally tapered out (Fix, Thump and GM2023 all having #### happen in their lives).

As it stands we basically are missing an entire team. We have some techs and pilots and Fawcetts's people are excellent guerillas - but they aren't marines. Depending on what Thumper wants just about anybody could fit in.

  13. Ivan:

The guy with the camera points it in your direction as you walk over, there's a limit to how much footage of a burning car anyone needs. He's about 5'7, untidy blond hair - no visible weapons or cyber. A small, stocky but quite cute brunette with frizzy hair stands by his side, looking at you with interest. Neither of them are wearing any corporate patches and neither looks familiar to you.

She certainly seems to sort of recognize you though, or thinks she does.

At least someone in the crowd sees the blood on your shoes as you approach, and pretty soon everyone notices and has shrank back appropriatly. The van is now reduced to bare chassis, the wheels have already gone and the engine block is still there simply because no one's been able to lift or dismantle it yet.

"Hey!  I be press secretary!  You pay for footage, da?  How much you pay?"

"Well that all depends what it's worth to you. Currently what we have might be worth a couple of hundred to a reality show. That barely pays for our time. However, if you want to discuss matters further," she steps closer, "and a bit more privately," she smiles, "I'm sure we could come up with something a bit more mutually satisfactory."

    OOC:

Are you waiting for your clothes to be cleaned, but still damp or going out in a dressing gown?

    Trouble:

I think you just got the Renata brushoff. Ivan's wandered off again. Hopefully he won't get shot at this time.

    Maybe.

    Renata:

         Circle, circle, circle.

She gives a low pitched whine of fright at your diagnosis, but supresses it and otherwise hears you out.

"I..don't know. A few days? They could go now. Deathwalker wanted to finish this weeks ago, when it all started. Marcus never wanted this war to begin with. Doesn't believe in fighting kids."

"But it's out of control now. It's going to happen, so Marcus'll do his best. The two of them argue, all the time, but the gang's with Deathwalker since our people started getting hit. It's a matter of face now."

    Ah Fu:

You can, if you stay watching, see Ivan walk over to the media. This might or might not be a good thing, especially if you want a low profile...

  14. What he said:

You need to purify the fissile isotopes of uranium out from the natural state if you want to do anything useful with it other than use it as a metal.

It'll contribute to background radioactivity, but uranium ore in its natural state isn't going to do anything beyond give off some background radiation.
