  1. the description of cyberaudio seems to go towards the former as well.  "has links directly to the speech and hearing centers of the brain with a mastiod bone microphone(paraphrased, of course)".  i've honestly just assumed the former as who wants to dink with a small box connected to your nugget all the time?

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  2. 1) covered in #6

    2) having talked to people who have finished the US Army and/or US Marine Corps sniping school(s) i can honestly say "WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?"

one shot, one kill(just like in the movie).  you'll note that the bodyguards(even in said movie) were IGNORED because the TARGET had a BULLET through it's HEART and was DEAD.

    3) only if you're not the one packing the launch assembly and ammo...

    4) Oswald didn't do it.  they had a gentleman prove that when you're shot in the head, your head snaps TOWARD the side that the impact happened on, NOT the opposite side like in the movies(100% of the time, in fact).  you'll note that Kennedy's head snapped FORWARD when he was shot.

and the "magic bullet"?  get real...

    5) yes, most rocket launchers have a backblast that is rather unpleasant to be in the middle of.  in fact, the training for a LAW anti-armor weapon tells you to be at least 3 meters from anything that will restrict said backblast for safety reasons.  *LOL* read a story once where some british(?) troops fired a Carl Gustav rocket inside a room and it did to them almost as much damage as the rocket explosion did to the target.  the German Armbrust(Crossbow) is the only RL that comes to mind were it's not much of an issue(and they advise at least 1 m from a potentual backblast-blocking object).

    6) the RPG that gets blown 5 meters off target when you're firing from 100 meters in a mild crosswind?  *LOL*  one, why be 100m from the target when you can cap him from 600+?  two, why would you use an RPG?  i've heard stories of Vietnam veterans SIDESTEPPING RPG-7 rounds because they travel so slow.  three, and there's a reason why we would have KICKED THE LIVING S**T out if the ruskies if they started a land war.  NATO analysts were shocked at the utter GARBAGE that the Warsaw Pact countries had in thier inventories!  the reason why all these third-world countries are buying soviet stuff is because it's CHEAP and AVAILABLE, not because it's good stuff!

at the risk of sounding like a total jerk: Class Dismissed,

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  3. ? per pair  HC=2d6  includes replacement myomar structures for the hips and spinal reinforcement.  increases your MA to 16(!) and allows for horizontal leaps of up to 10 meters(!!). pairs only.   *HC is in additon to the pair of cyberlegs, obviously.*

and i'm to lazy to cut and paste this to an e-mail as i use yahoo and i don't wanna surf back to it:P

    you're welcome,

  4. good research in that book you have!  this was a problem for a while back in the early-mid 80's.  this is actually what forced them to swap to a modified form of RDX(this is the stuff that actually goes "BOOM!" in C-4 plastique).  you can set C-4 on fire and it doesn't explode(just don't stamp it out).  yeah, it's that stable.

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  5. anyone ever heard of trying to get a 2-meter-long tube up to a good shooting position where A) no one is going to stop you from getting there or note you particualarly as you head up B) the backblast won't blow your punka$$ out the window or C) where the heck are gonna get a rocket launcher compared to the relative ease of a rifle?

sure you can section it up, but then you have to have the time to build this sensitive equipment before you fire(the drafts between skyscrapers above ground level are quite fierce.  an unguided round would miss by a mile, or the gaming equivalent).

why do they ALWAYS think that bigger is BETTER?!?confused.gif

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  6. sorry, but being uniformly disgusted with the way that most RPGs handle firearms does that to a guy wink.gif

it's the whole die-rolling thing, really.  body armors are rated by the amount of kinetic energy that they can stop before penetration is acheived.  this is generally crossreferenced with the usual round types within the given category of protection.  now this seems simple except for the fact that you then have to base your armors on the MAXIMUM that a given round can roll instead of the amount of damage that it USUALLY will do.

now what does that do to your game?  simple, it makes it like the PBEM game that i'm in (refed by SpiderMurphy2020. nothing personal, btw, i LOVE it so far) where EVERYONE(but me, of course) is packing a bloody 12mm HANDCANNON because anything smaller is a friggin' popgun to a light armorjack!

so how do we fix this little "problem"(read: psychosis) that i have?  simple, you break out your copy of Guns!Guns!Guns! 3rd Ed(Revised) and build all the weapons FROM SCRATCH(ton's o' frackin' giggles, i have to tell you biggrin.gif ).  my players LOVED the results as it actually became like real-life where they could count on a given round penetrating a given type of armor*crowd cheers*.  heck, they thought that the lack of die-rolling for damage was BETTER than rolling a crit. and usually rolling A$$ shocked.gif

my conversion notes are in the CP2020 rules section if you're bored some time,

  7. i'd go the GURPS method for MA.  the average of REF and CON would work well.  this would also give a fairly realistic idea of how long you can sustain the run/sprint.

i just never saw the point of the ATT attribute as you can easily just buy being cute:P

i'd ditch MA and add LUCK, it's just a kool stat.

  8. the nanotech is what really turns me off.  the capabilities of such a development are STAGGERING.  "hmm...i'm gonna take a brick that's infested with these lil' bugs and figure out how to program them to do what i want them to do.  first, make more of themselves.  second, make me tanks.  LOTS AND LOTS OF TANKS.  oh yeah, and lots of ammo too.  third, me and my boys are gonna go carve a section of the city out to be ours.  "psychophipps' neighborhood" has a good ring to it...

and that is just ONE stupida$$ed example what what is CAPABLE with this stuff.  imagine if someone bothered to dump a few billion into R&D?

the building collapse thing?  why wouldn't everyone just have an ultrasonic emitter that would detect when sections around them are getting iffy?  cheap and pretty effective at keeping that skyscraper from crashing down on you.  or electromagnetic feilds around the bases of the buildings to keep the nanomachines from coming back to barrow a few tons of concrete?

ok, i thought about it to much...it's A$$,

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  9. i don't know about y'all, but if i could hook that baby up to a generator on the back of a Hummer and go to town at a semi-automatic rate with a pindle mount, i'd be king of the frackin' hill!  screw all that gatling jazz!  if you're busting nuggets(and light vehicles) at those ranges, they have an overwhelming tendency to not to want to play no more...

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  10. hmm...interesting stuff, isn't it?  i agree with stephanie on this one.  the "binder" would be bad as it would be a structural weak point in the ammunition.  the propellant mass would probably be LESS as you'd be able to use a solid propellant like RDX or C-4(RDX is the stuff used in the G-11 ammo, btw), just modify it to burn slower and you're ready to rock.

The US military has been dinking with swapping to a liquid propellant as it gives a more uniform burn and thus slightly better ballistics.  I'm a HUGE fan of binary weapons.  what do y'all think about the concept?

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  11. it's good to see that y'all ain't bitter about your lot at all...of course, if i got stuck with the 4-5 terrestrial channels of fantastic that y'all are stuck with, i'd want to light fires and blow stuff up too! *LOL*

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  12. LOL...here's the revised version as i blew the math BIGTIME with the first version of this post tounge.gif  Moved the TL up to 13(TL 12 is now).

i was sitting on the MAX(our light rail system in the Portland area) and i got to thinking about the assault rifles in our beloved game and how depressingly non-innovative they are.  we're looking at a capacity for amazing amounts of firepower in compact packages and we get stuck with a bloody caseless ammo-firing M-16.  seeing the flaws in this, i rolled on up to my TI-83 calculator, pulled out my copy of 3G3(Guns! Guns! Guns! 3rd Edition,Revised), and got to work biggrin.gif

the first thing i noticed was the fact that you can fit 60 rounds of 5.56 caseless into the same area as 30 rounds of 5.56 NAT0.  this means that a magazine of the same dimensions(well, not as long, but you get the point) can hold TWICE the ammunition!

now, let's take this a step further.  a company that makes the SPECTRE submachinegun created a magazine style called "four-file" that allows for the forementioned firearm to have a 50-round magazine capacity but a shorter overall magazine length than the 30-round magazines of the MP-5 series.  why not apply this to the caseless ARs in CP2020?

the magazine for the M-16 has a loaded mass of 483 grams, and the service cartridge has a mass of 12.2 grams.  of this cartrige mass, 4 grams is projectile and 1.21 grams is propellant. for our example, let's keep these masses for the caseless version.

now we have a 5.21 gram 5.56mm casless round(3.82 grams if we keep with the current trend of steel-cored hyper-velocity ammo for it's AP effect).  5.21*60=312.6 grams.  we now add 62.52 grams for the magazine for a total magazine mass of 375.12 grams(or 291.72 grams with the forementioned AP ammo) with 60 rounds.  hmm, double the bang-bang with less mass. interesting...

the G-11 caseless assault rifle(which has been around in it's current form for over 10 years now) has a firing rate of 10 rounds per second in full auto, but a 2000 rpm rate in 3-round burst.  seems they found that the extraction cycle was what really slowed the firing cycle of firearms down as the receiver needed the time to make sure that the casing had cleared the weapon.  well, we don't need to worry about that, now do we? *evil smile*  the 2000 rpm rate is 33.33 rounds per second.  this translates into about 90 microseconds per 3-round burst.  this means that the third round has left the barrel before you feel the recoil of the first.  "well, how the heck does that help me, the CP2020 player?" i can hear through my phone line.  simple, that means that every three-round burst is just as accurate as a single shot!  three rounds in, without the fuss of rolling 1/2d6 and praying! *crowd cheers in the background*

of course, the 600 rpm rate of fire would be best left alone for FA fire as they don't want you tearing through your ammo too fast smile.gif

now we put this all together...

the minimum barrel length for 100% energy with a muzzle energy of 2123.55 J(or approx. 1565 ft/lbs *LOL*) is 43 cm.  the receiver mass would be 786 grams for a semi-auto receiver("a semi-auto receiver?!?" you say, shocked as can be.  yup, most assault rifles/SMGs are using semi-auto receivers that are modified for full auto.  in fact, the only ARs that use a full-auto receiver that i can think of are the Galil and the SKS/AK series, which is why they're as reliable as the sun.  with this fact in mind, i would make all the VR assault weapons reliability 1 on the jamming table when doing semi-auto fire). 1389 grams for the barrel.  add barrel and receiver...add the mass of accessories...2.6 kg for the unloaded Ronin assault rifle.  the overall length would be 50 cm(19.7 inches).  add the magazine and you have a total loaded mass of 2.975(3) kg(6.57 lbs).

    now comes the new stats:

Militech Ronin RIF +1 N C 5d6, or 7d6+1(ACK!) if you use my conversion notes in the Rules and Guidelines section on 3G3(5.56mmCL) 60 2/30 450eb.

note: while i didn't get to an even larger magazine, i think you guys can extropolate on the concepts here.

    cheers,

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  13. 10 people in the USA with 10 comabt sense? i put it at maybe a 5...LOL.  i have to agree with Thorn on this one, dude.  in your game YOU'RE BLOODY GOD!  time to to step up and act like it:)

    just being ornery,

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  14. one of the most successful real-world assassins of all time worked as a world-famous concert pianist as his "day job".  you wanna talk about "no spare time"?  try that job fer chrissakes:P

the change just keeps coming two cents at a time,

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  15. i had a thought on the light rail tonight as i headed home from work.  what if WE, the players of the Interlock system, bought the rights from R. Talsorian Games and made it open-source on the web?  That's right, kids!  OPEN SOURCE!  The freakin' Linux of the gaming world!

    R. Talsorian is done with it, so it wouldn'y cost them anything, and there's already a grip of CP 2020 websites out there, so we all know that there's a fan-base for it.  anyone could publish anything that they want at any time.  what do you sane people think?

    sometimes i scare myself too,

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  16. having studied multiple martial arts(Emperado-Method Kajukembo, Takahashi-Ryu Karate-Do, Chinese Kempo Karate, Small-Circle Jujitsu, Kajukembo Wun Hop Kune Do, Jeet Kune Do concepts, and random other stuff over 9 years)it just doesn't work that way in reality.  A punch is a punch, and a kick is a kick.  It really depends on how much training you put into individual techniques, not how much you put into individual styles...

    that supa-fly kung-fu nutcase,

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  17. funny, every single highly-trained death-commando i've ever met(and i've met Rangers, SEALS, US Special Forces, SAS, SWAT officers, BATF agents(inside joke)...) wasn't a cold hearted bastard at all.  sure their job required them to blow holes in people sometimes, but that doesn't mean that they WANTED to.  ####, if it was you or them, i can almost gaurantee that you'd pick "them" too...

The special ability of "Combat Sense" isn't like they're hyped up to pop a "9" into someone at every instant.  it's the ability to realise that something is "wrong" with a situation or area.  why are the locals all diving for cover and/or hustling kids to doorways while the tourists are completely oblivious?  why does the bouncer know that the drunk guy you're "having a conversation with" is gonna try to beat your ass when you think it's a pleasant chat?  it's about sensitivity to your suroundings that only comes from getting lots of training and/or lots of fists/bullets fired at you.

    *shrugs again*

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  18. ok, you're "sneaking"*derisive snort* around in your chromed Metalgear and a spotlight suddenly hits you!  you'd all react but the chromed finish has reflected the blinding beam everywhere and blinded the whole party!  The gunner up in the tower easliy gets y'alls range as he just has to aim around  the shiny idiot downrange and...LOL

why don't you just strap a frackin' bullet beacon to yourself?:P

    still laughing out loud,

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)
