  1. an Asp-type baton costs about 65 USD as i just bought one.  they come in 16", 21", 26", and 31" sizes.  the 16 would do about 1d6+2 and would have a P conceal.  the 21"+ sizes would be a J conceal and do about 2d6, 2d6+1, and 2d6+2 respectively.  the construction is usually chromoly steel as it can flex a bit and is a great combination of weight and strength.  chances are that the construction would stay steel as the mass and the length is what does the damage and steel is about optimal.

aren't you glad i'm around for this stuff? wink.gif

  2. *LOL* good point, thumper

i do the same thing to a point.  the only problem is that I'VE studied basic forensics and my players have not.  that means that, well, the SWAT team with be visiting them shortly and be a bit excited about the whole affair as they really, REALLY want to make sure that the PCs never get a chance to fire off any more of thier stash...MWAHAHAHA!

i lost more PCs that way...then i realised that killing them was letting them off EASY! *maniacal cackle*,

  3. or you could understand that the barrel length isn't enough to make the fancy-dan sights worthwhile.  it's a PISTOL, kids.  that means SHORT (generally under 50m) ranges.  if you wanna blast someone who's farther away for some reason or another, use a different bloody weapon!

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  4. umm...yeah.  the main problem with using HE against armored targets is the fact that the concussion, and thus damage, is spread over the entire object.  why do you think that they designed HEAT rounds for tanks?  if HE worked on armored vehicles well, they'd never have changed over. while  the impromtu frag grenade idea is kool(####, they used in Swordfish), it doesn't do much against full 'borgs as you'd have uneven dispersal of fragmentation, the HE would spend a good deal of it's energy fighting itself due to poor fusing, and well...full 'borgs are hella tough:wink:

now, i realise that you mentioned that he wasn't a full 'borg but just some chump who had a grip of torso-plating.  now comes the big question for me: WHY THE #### DIDN'T THEY JUST SHOOT HIM IN THE HEAD?!?  you take a Ronin AR, have the original bum get in the forementioned frackhead's face, and BANG! problem solved without becoming rouge terrorist types wanted by the whole of the free world...

armored nugget?  AP ammo.  if he's still standing, JUST SHOOT HIM AGAIN!  *speaking to the forementioned players*  you're in an URBAN setting, you wankers!   your average engagement range is 7 meters or less!  *retards voice*wow, that means that i only need to roll a 14 to shoot someone in the FRACKING FACE at that range with most firearms...why did i do something stupid like wasting 3 kilos of C-6 when i could have used 50 cents in bullets? *smacks forehead*

in case you have not noticed, i get a bit upset when Referees let their players get away with such blatant stupidity.  it ruins the game, it makes us gamers look bad, and if you stop and think about it...IT DOESN'T MAKE MUCH SENSE!  but hey!  it's your game!  hope you're having fun with it!

and they wonder why i keep saying "bigger IS NOT necessarily better!" *shakes head sadly*,

  5. similar concept but different direction.  a "magum" tends to be a round designed with a large amount of powder behind it in mind, while a "wildcat" load is a standard cartridge with a smaller-diameter projectile.  both can get you impressive penetration and damage, but the wildcat tends to have less recoil and a faster second shot capability.

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  6. umm...we'll agree to disagree on the "overpowering" aspect of selling out, 7thPawn.  i've found that it pretty well ties the player's hands behind their backs so you can get a good run going before you punt their nutbag...

one thing to try is to make the corp PC the "faceman" for a small corp that the PCs are a part of.  he's the guy that everyone talks to and he handles all the contract work.  the example i used in my game was shamelessly stolen from Millenium's End.  they were a security/private detective/paramilitary services company that wasn't as spendy as Arasaka or The Lazarus Group.  worked great and the players loved the change from the "i am megacorp! *stomp! smash! chop! puree!*" grind.  gave the players options as to the jobs they did, and kept the intrigue level at an all-time high.

try it with your group, you'll love it...

  7. i'm a fan of flash-bangs.  not only are they non-lethal, but they're standard-issue with any "emergency response team" in the world nowadays.  have the other edgerunners/corp guards/cops/whathaveyou toss about, oh FOUR, into an enclosed area at once and watch the fun begin!  vomit/tear gas is your friend, too.

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  8. the main book also states that they mainly utilize stuff called "myomar".  from the description it's electrically-active plastics/bio-plastics that retract from electricity(we have this stuff TODAY, btw).  all the battery would have to do is copy a signal sent by the brain to the limbs interface trunk and give the right myomar strands/sections the "contract" command.  very energy efficient and easy to work on as it's basically a re-made human arm with stronger/tougher parts.  no motors would need to be involveds at all unless you needed stuff to rotate 360 degrees and other funkiness...

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  9. as the person who started the "character-fleshing-out-fest"...y'all are welcome.  the first example "Roach", and the one followed by kencyr and eraser, is in the "others" section.  got the swap from SMG to streetwise, btw:winks: *does his happy dance*

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  10. *LOL*  OK!  my character, the "street mercenary", grabs the thug with his "cyberlimb" and shoots him with his "12mm pistol"...*bangs his head on his desk a bit*

my original intention was to create/license an easy to use "generic" game that ANY gamer could use to make ANY near-future "cyberpunk-style" world with minimal difficulty.  guess we get to be shafted by the gaming industry for a bit longer...

  11. *LOL*  one of the players in the Seraphim PBEM(won't say who) sold out to a corp.  the contract was a BIG-TIME anal raping and i tried very hard OOC to keep them from doing it *shrugs*.  now if I was the sadist...err, referee, i would send him on ops just like the one your mentioning, myrad.  the PC's boss: "my boss just said that he's trying to usurp his immediate superior and needs a psychological edge of some sort.  your new mission is to assassinate his children, aged 2 and 5.  please make it gruesome..."

now the PC just sold out and everything is hunky- dory so far.  why have the corp breach the contract right away?  make them HAPPY to work for the corp for a while.  paid them on time, give them their benefits, free housing and car...but if they EVER say "no"...put the screws to them*wicked joker's smile*

    ain't this game GREAT?!?

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  12. it was covered a bit in GURPS Bio-Tech.  about the same protection as kevlar but around 1/3 the mass.  a lot more expensive, however...

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  13. being the nutty guy that i am, i let everything run smooothy for the corp that i Reffed last.  HAHAHA!  yeah, right!  here's what i did so you can see some examples of "how business is REALLY done"...

    1) make a rival that somehow has his nose up EVERYONE'S butt!  when the PC tries anything, have the higher-ups swat him like the bad dog he is for messing with their favorite doormat.

    2) had the head of his security detachment screw his ol' lady.  two reactions: one, you freak out and fire the guy.  your wife hates you AND you have a jilted lover who knows everything about your security network.  two, you keep your yap shut and drown in your own misery as she rides the solo's "multi-shot rocket launcher"...he chose #2

    3) his accountant starts pilfering money...the CORP'S MONEY and is using his account as the first step in laundering it.  two scenarios again: one, he fires the bum and probably gets fingered too.  two, he talks the thieving weasel into letting him join in as he's already SCREWED if accounting finds out.  the tag team finds more ingenious ways to filter the funds and both get rich...he chose #1 and ended up dead.

    4) have the corp run an ops team that SUCKS.  they can barely tie their shoes right let alone get an op to go smoothly, but some BS street references say that they're DEATH MACHINES.  now the PC is getting leaned on for not getting the jobs done by his team of "experts".  he can't spend the corp's cash on training beyond a certain point as they're already "amazing" operators, so he has to use his own cash...*LOL*  as you can see, i saved the best for last:wink:

just be sure to remember the condoms and KY,

  14. well cyberjunk, i would like to take this time to thank you for asking Lisa "i'm married to a patron saint of RPGs" Pondsmith, the wrong question.  what i had originally posted was the thought of buying the CP 2020 SYSTEM.  that would be a generic version of the cyberware examples, generic versions of the weapons by caliber and type(a la Hardwired), generic versions of the netrunning programs and system, the  four-box per wound level damage scale, etc.  i (and i feel that most of us) could give two f**ks about the CP timeline.  ####, we could even make a generic version of "cyberpsychosis" an optional rule!

the details would be up to the individual Referees,

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  15. *Ahem*

"Cyberaudio systems patch into the auditory nerves and speech centers of the brain.  This enhancement affects both ears, and includes a subvocalising mike on the mastiod bone.  There is no visible change to the outer ear, although some cyberpunks replace the outer ear with a set of mechanical speaker pickups for max effect."

    CP 2020 (2nd Ed.) pg. 87,

  16. i like Big Eyes, Small Mouth and all the other GoO stuff.  GURPS rocks.  Call of Cthulu is amazing.  Cyberpunk o' course.  and i LOVE Milleniums End!  it's an out-of-print techno-thiller game.  check it out!

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  17. and why does everything have to be in punka$$ Night City?  I mean, we're making a WORLD here, fer chrissakes!  i suggest that we concentrate on making "universal" stuff that ANYONE can use in a game set ANYWHERE.

my last game was set in the portland/vancouver metroplex in a world where the tech-level was significantly higher than the one in CP 2020, as an example.  why limit ourselves to a very poor example of a city like Night City?  it's size alone(according to the map, at least) is WAY too small for the huge population it's supposed to have.

    just a few thoughts,

  18. actually stephane, the heavier a projectile is, the beeter it's range caracteristics are.  why do you think that DU and tungsten are used so much in tank loads?  flat trajectory through momentum is the key to good ballistics.  now you just have to get the bloody thing to go fast in the first place!

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  19. the thing to remember is the fact that but the time the EMP pulse is a factor, all the nano-goodies in you has probably already finished what it had to get done.  even if they all get fried, just buy a "booster" of the nanites and you're good to go.

i see nanotech as a much more pervasive force than most CP gamers.  look at Cybergeneration.  the nanomachines had people who could see and manipulate the Net  with a thought, like it was their reality.  others could read the emotions, and sometimes even thoughts, of others.  another could fire microfilament superconductive wires connected to internal superconductive batteries that are recharged by the person's bioelectricity.  geez, they even had one who could make about anything as long as the nanites had the raw materials(as in, the basic elements) and the user had some idea how it was done(####, trapped again!  guess i need to make some more nitro...).  the combat "me grog mad" version could make their limbs into swords ala Terminator 2, punch and kick with the damages of a cyberlimb, and extrude a SP20 biometalic armor.

this stuff isn't just gonna disappear kids.  take it one step farther.  the links to the optic and auditory nerves are done in the net and emotion types.  internal visualisation like a times square plus with no cybereye or humanity cost.  the grog guy(tinman?) was really tough.  SP20 armor without humanity cost. they all had a reflex boost, that's right REFLEX, not initiative.  simple to install as it was found in all types and guess what?  NO HUMANITY COST!

someone will find a use for it to make MONEY or the ability to do so,

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  20. i'm really not sure, to be honest.  with the advances currently going on with cloning and stem cells though, i'd have to say that it will be biotech.  why go metal when you can have an arm reattached after it's been cloned?  the later stem cell treatment would make sure that it's good as new in about 3-6 months.  of course, i can already hear you guys grumbling, "3-6 MONTHS!?!"  sure, the cyberlimb might be developed as a short-term replacement, but the benefits from a cyberlimb are not enough to outrun the potentual problems.

i have also noticed a change from cybertech to bio/nanotech in the newer books of the "cyberpunk" genre.  maybe it's just inevitable...
