  1. while this wasn't a "best shot" per se, it sure was a funny situation that really stuck out in our group...

one time my buddy was running the game so i could take a break from Refing, and i had good ol' Maxmillian Blackheart.   the whole group was pinned by a bunch of boosters(can't remember which ones) behind a small dumpster at the end of a dead-end alley while the only escape route was through a manhole acrossed 3 meters of open ground.  i looked at the situation, had ol' Maxy reload his two matte black AMTs while bullets were winging all over the place like billiard balls and i looked at the other players with a wicked smile.  "you guys run and get in that manhole while i lay down some fire".

they all stared at me incredulously for a bit and realised that i just HAD to have a plan of some sort(i WAS the guy who was slapping them around in game last weekend, after all) so they all said "OK" and got themselves sorted for the run and lift.

the boosters were still blazing away at us 9mm.gifuzi.gif when Maxy suddenly stood up in the middle of it with both his hand howitzers extended and started blasting back at the boosters as the rest of the group dove for the manhole. shoot.gif

Maxy had dropped 4 of them while he just standing in the open, but the boosters were rolling a$$ so i wasn't getting hit back.  the rounds were coming pretty close to hitting me however and seeing how close i had been to getting wasted by one burst, one of the players(who shall remain anonymous) turned to me and asked, "aren't you going to take cover?"

i calmly looked at him with the evil smile still in place and said, "take cover?  I AM COVER!"  seeing that the others were down the manhole Maxy then charged acrossed the open ground and dove down after everyone else without a scratch!

everyone had made it unscathed but i got a good reaming about "THAT was the plan?!?" until everyone suddenly burst out laughing...

    gawd, i miss those days,

  2. umm...yeah.

ever hear of a film genre called film noire?  it's this really neat genre that includes moral ambiguity, intrigue, and the general nastiness of the human race at the forefront.  funny how film noire doesn't include human/machine ambiguity, technoshock, or any of the "standard" things that most people would connect with the term "cyberpunk".

try this some time, ask someone(who preferably who isn't a friend or someone you discuss such things with regularly) what pops to mind when you say Sam Spade.  then a bit later, reverse it by saying cyberpunk.  20 bucks says that "cyberpunk" or "Sam Spade" isn't in the top 5 of either list. while it's easy to add film noire elements to the CP genre(heck, i do it all the time myself), it's not a good thing to think that they're the same thing...

  3. i've finished the Genealogy of Morals and The Gay Science.  I'm curreently banging on Thus Spoke Zarathustra.  Kaufman was right.  when he's good, he's AMAZING, but when he's bad, you just wish that the book would end.  Thus Spoke...has been pretty good thus far smile.gif

  4. Popular Science & Mechanics(GREAT source materials for new kit), Soldier of Fortune, Black Belt, Alternative Press, the kool news stuff on this(cyberpunk.co.uk) page, the R. Talsorian BBS, a bunch of TPB comics that i like with the obligatory Masamune Shirow, a bunch of military history(mostly vietnam as i feel that low-intesity conflict is the future of warfare), and some action/adventure stuff(McNab and Marcinko top the list here).  and i'm working on Neitzche in my "spare time" wink.gif

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  5. lets see here...

considering that Akira is much more transhumanist than CP, the choice was pretty darn easy.  Akira has no man/machine ambiguity, no worldwide data network, and well...no CYBERPUNK, fer chrissakes tounge.gif

a dark future does not cyberpunk make! wink.gif

Who the heck fired this stupid thing up?  never mind, don't tell me...

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  6. GO THORN!  GO THORN!  GO THORN!

i'm a Hardwired fan in case you havn't noticed, and i think that it's the best R. Talsorian world put out so far with When Gravity Fails coming as a close second.  I actually actively dislike the world of Night City as i find it to be stereo-typed, contrived, overpowered, and over-the-top drivel that is unworthy to touch my butt crease for a good wipe.  *sighs*  but it's the only CP game in town,  so i don't really have much say in the matter...

opinions are like a$$holes, we all have one wink.gif

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  7. well, my favorite loser character has to be my first CP character ever.  he was your stereo-typical G.I. Joke solo with way to much cyber and the common sense of a skitzofrantic crackhead on a three-day jones...  *LOL*  the spudwhack even had a dumba$$ name, Maxmillian Blackheart!  funny thing is that the Referee was new, and thus, just as stupid as the character was so he actually lived!  i think i gave this guy Combat Sense and Handguns +8 right off the bat...along with kerenzikov +2, twin smartlinks, twin cybereyes with target scope, and the ambidex chip and independantly focusable eyes from Chrome 1.  he was a DEATHMACHINE!  *LOL as mental images of aiming at two heads at once, while diving for cover and HITTING THEM BOTH, dance in my mind*  couldn't do anything but make people scream and bleed, but he lived for a long time before he was retired from straight boredom.

*sighs* those were the dumb old days,

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  8. my favorite CP weapon is my pride and joy, the M-PAWS(Modular-Purpose Adaptive Weapons System).  it's a binary 5.56mm pistol, submachinegun, carbine, light-duty sniper rifle, and/or light machinegun all rolled up into one light, easily maintained package.  the system allows for the construction of two complete weapons of different types which are usually the handgun and a longarm of some sort.  semi-auto and full-automatic/autoburst receivers are available.  as it's propellant is binary, you can meter it to fire sub-sonic rounds with some special tungsten projectiles with the simple flick of a switch.

    it's every edgerunner's wet dream,

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  9. hmm...

I've found the best tool for paranioa is the remove it completely.  how do you remove paranoia from the the single most nasty world of badness in the evil empire of RPGs?  easy, just make everything go right!

think about it for a second...how many times have you sicked the prison-rape-scene on them like the rabid pitbull that all CP referees are?  it probably numbers in the hundreds.  now how much would it mess with their heads when all the pieces fall into place?

they get paid on time in non-marked currency.  the corp doesn't try to wipe them out to cover it's tracks and instead actually puts the good word for them on the street.  the troublemaking booster buys them a beer instead of trying to pull their jawbone out through their anus.  the phone company forgets that they exist for billing. the paperboy actually gets it there on time on Sundays.  the list goes on and on...

now they're waiting for the other shoe to drop.  one week.  two.  a month.  it just keeps going and going like they're the CP posterboys and it's one big, happy photo shoot for autographed 8x10 glossies for their fans.  you toss a little tidbit at them to keep them interested, but they handle it in stride and keep the good times rolling as the money, cyber, and rep mount up.

then they get careless with that selfsame cyber, money, whathaveyou...and the FUN begins *MWAHAHAHA!*

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  10. i was actually trying to demonstrate that those examples from my earlier post were all that MIGHT be worth extracting from France.  it WAS a request, after all... wink.gif

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  11. and Stephane covers the stuff in the various supliments and MY error wink.gif.  in an effort to keep it simple, stupid i had left out the bits from the books that he probably doesn't have...interesting that i had been doing the correct thing with the handgun ROF all this time after all, when everyone else did it differently for whatever reasons that they have.

    Thanks for the correction,

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  12. *sighs*  everyone misses my point.  if you moved his joints out of whack(you really could only reinforce the hinge ones as he still needs full movement in his socket joints), he's pretty well screwed just like anyone else.

ok...you have a feral, fuzzy, indestructable-boned superfreak helplessly lying at you feet with all his limbs dislocated at the shoulder or hip.  now his healing factor doesn't cover pulling his limbs back into their sockets, so you just calmly pull the pin on your thermite bomb(1500 degrees centegrade-plus is your friend), let the spoon go, and give the little bastard a wink as you drop it on his chest...

Hard to heal when all the flesh as been burned from that fancy-dan skeleton, huh? biggrin.gif

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  13. rather be an "imperialist yankee dog" than a "frog" any day biggrin.gif

extract enigma and daft punk before you blow France into a nuclear parking lot, please...

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  14. *sighs*

OK, here we go.  first off, the -3 penalty only counts on EXTRA actions past the first!  the first shot is at NO PENALTY!

now we get sticky.  as a person who goes shooting on a regular basis, i know that you could EASILY fire 2 well-placed shots in 3.2 seconds.  so i rule that the -3 action penalty STARTS with shots over 2 in a turn.  However, the official rule seems to show that the -3 is for the second shot.  DO NOT post about rules if you aren't sure!  thank you for your compliance...biggrin.gif

as for the SP question, the OFFICIAL ruling is AGAIN different than what Thorn posted.  the rules state that the SP is reduced by one for every PENETRATING attack.  no mention of the 2 points for AP rounds at all(and where the heck did you get this, anyway, Thorn? confused.gif ).  so if you're doing your example from above TekXombie, the CP 2020 rules say that the guy that's getting blasted can just start scrubbing his armpits for all the good your shower of lead is doing.  the above not posting thingy with the thanks again...

Hit a BIG TIME pet peev of mine,

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  15. enhanced antibodies, toxin binders, and nanosurgeons?

or would it be :twink:? *shrugs*

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

P.S.  the main reason why that i don't like Wolver-wiennie is that he's only around because he's the Marvel poster-boy.  they did a DC crossover a while back where he fought Lobo, a space pirate who kicked Superman in the jimmy and made ol' supes do the dying cockroach.  He a VERY BAD PERSON, in other words.  but all the Marvel geeks voted for Wolvie so the pintsized c**ksucker won in the end.

also note that none of the examples of his adamatium skeleton show JOINT REINFORCEMENT.  sure his bones don't snap, but all those ninjas should be kicking his knees the wrong direction on a regular basis...

  16. got the stats fired up.  Asps collapse into four sections and i based the design on an average width of 15mm.  sorry, but i didn't have mine handy as i'm on vacation.  all the lengths cost the same at the store i bought mine at, btw...

the 16" and the 21" both do about 1d6+1 according to 3G3.  i find this to be fairly realistic as it's mostly WHERE you hit them that determines how well each strike works. the 26" and 31" versions both do 1d6+2 or 1d10 in damage(i'd use the d10 myself).

the masses came to about 500 g for the 16", 650 grams for the 21", 800 g for the 26", and 950 g for the 31" model.  again, i had to fudge these figures with a generous use of a SWAG(Scientific Wild-Assed Guess), so if you can find more accurate info, let me know!

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)

  17. yeah, if you're not specifically trained to use it as a lever for holds/locks, you'd never even think of it.  it's a bloody club to most people.  working on the 3G3 stats for each length as i'm a stickler for such things as y'all know:wink:  btw, it would probably be the one MA weapon for Arasaka Te as these things have all but replaced the old skool nightsticks for security/police use...

    should have them up today/tonight,

    Mark(psycho)Phipps(HAHAHA!)
