  1. My 0.02 Euro worth -

I did a fair amount of research into handguns in general for a homebrew RPG before I found a copy of CP2020 in my local store.

Most of my information is anecdotal/semi-historical, and not being a gun owner, serving soldier or having shot someone or been shot, feel free to dismiss me :)

There is a loose system invented by one of the African big game hunters (ie Elephants and Rhinos) called the Talylor Knock-Out system, to grade the stopping power of big hunting rifle calibres (Stuff like .500 Nitro Express or .50 A-Square). I cant remember the specifics except that it involved the velocity and bullet weight, and that a .45ACP did have more stopping power than a 9mm.

One of the things I read was that in the 20's or 30's, the US Police asked gun manufacturers for a round that had more stopping power than the .38 special, and the .357 Magnum was born.

Another article (and I think they made a movie about it too) involved the FBI and a takedown that went wrong. Two armed robbers carrying Mini-14s (5.56mm Nato) were cornered in their car by a large number of agents carrying standard 9mm automatics. They felons were hit with something like 50 rounds before they finally died, having killed or wounded several FBI agents in the meantime. After that the FBI switched to a heavier version of the 9mm bullet, and requested Smith and Wesson to work on a replacement calibre - hence the 10mm round was born.

Finally, in the 1982 Falklands war, British Marines reported hitting Argentine troops at 300m with 5.56mm Nato rounds which werent having a lot of effect. (Presumably these were scout parties or maybe SBS troops, as the standard British Army rifle at the time as the 7.62mm SLR (FN-FAL).

IIRC the reason NATO shifted to a smaller calibre for their assualt rifles was started by the USA, who found lugging a M14 and full ammo load through the jungles of Vietnam was tiring, hence the M16 and 5.56mm round. Other contries followed suit as the idea of facing an enemy at long ranges faded in favour of the up close and personal idea. Plus a box of 5.56mm Nato weighs a lot less than a box of 7.62mm.

  2. I just realised I created my Techie as a 60 Pointer when everyone else is a 65, plus I've applied the IP multipliers during character creation, when general consensus seems to be that you dont. :(

Oh well, guess I'll just have to play smarter not harder :)

  4. The Stolbovoy's would be good, but are less accurate and pack less of a punch than the bigger calibres.

We could take Dragon's suggestion of the M2012 and rebarrel them for 7x62x39 Soviet caseless, to give us access to local ammo and not leave much incriminating ballistic evidence in the shape of US/Euro calibre holes in anything.

Of course, a true Special Ops squad would use indigenous equipment as far as possible/practical. :)

  5. Surely our fixer will be able to tell us weapon / ammunition availability for the local area?

Also, as we're going to be licensed terrorists (more or less), then walking into the local Walmart-ski for a box of ammo could be tricky. If we start asking for anyting of exotic calibres SovOil is bound to put 2 and 2 together.

I think having the goon squad carry weapons in Soviet calibres would be a good idea for just that reason.

  6. Problem with the M2012 is that the range is only 400m, and although the heavy barreled SAW version goes up to 450m, its still a bit short for a sniper rifle.

Blackhands Weapons says it can be rebarreled for 7.62x39 Soviet(5d6+3), 7.62 Nato (6d6+2) or 7.5mm French Short (6d6+1), although it doesnt mention 6.5mm Militech.

Considering where we're going, an M2012 rebarreled for 7.62 Soviet would be a good option as a regular assualt rifle or a short ranged sniper.

  7. It doesnt directly say what value the skinweave has in the RGUK book, so I assumed it to be standard SP12 skinweave as in the core rules.

The Enfield Spitfire is listed in both RGUK and Blackhands Street Weapons. Stats taken from Blackhands are -

    P  +1  J  P  4d6+1 (12mm)  12  1  VR  50m,

cost 550eb or 700eb when factory smartchipped. Mine is the unchipped version.

  9. My character is supposed to be a general tech with small boats (ie BCF Riverines from RGUK) - boat engines in particular. I assumed Marine Tech was the closest to covering that skill.

I've got a character whose an AV Tech from another game somewhere, he's only had 1 real mission since creation so he shouldnt be overpowered. I can use him if you'd prefer.

  11. Jason Creedy (Bodybag not Included) :)

Jason was born in East London to parents who where middle ranking Corporates, and looked set for a career with them when unfortunately his parents made a bad call with some shares and were left nearly penniless. In order to survive, they 'sold' his place with the Corp to another, and arranged for him to join the BCF. (There is little love lost between Jason and his Folks.)

After completing basic training, he specialised as a Marine Technician, and found himself in one of the safest, quietest and dullest, postings in the entire UK - the BCF Customs and Excise Regiment in Aberystwyth in Wales - miles from anything resembling combat.

After a while, the boredom and lack of career prospects led him to get involved in some extra-curricular activites, fixing boat engines for some of the locals. While doing this, he stumbled upon a small but profitable smuggling racket bringing in cases of Irish Whiskey across the sea. He got involved rather than turning them in, unaware that several senior members of his regiment, the local cops and the local publican were already involved, and that they were all infact under investigation from the Regiments Internal Affairs group.

When the racket was finally busted, Jason was smart enough to strike a bargain with his Commanding Officer for an honourable discharge, in return for not turning over evidence that would implicate his CO and several others.

Nevertheless, Jason is deeply unpopular with the Aberystwyth Constabulary (all five of them), and is on the Customs and Excise Regiments list of 'Suspicious Characters', meaning he gets searched from top to bottom every time he passes through UK customs.

This became apparent last time he exited the UK, when he was caught with an illegal firearm and given a fine hefty enough to leave him little but the shirt on his back and enough change for a packet of Kibble.

  12. I've never come across a game before where we show the other players our character sheets.

Do you mean we just post a resume of our character (ie Hes a panzerjock / solo / medtech who looks like this, dresses like this and comes from Nowheresville, America), or really post all our stats?

  14. Sorry this forum has been acting really screwey on me - I havent been able to login for weeks and could only get it to accept my username after I tried to register as a new user.

Anyway, did you get my character, Thumper?

If not thats cool, I was thinking of re-doing him anyway. Looking at some of the others here I think he'll be dead as a can of spam by turn 3 anyway  :9mm:

  16. Newbie alert!

Eraser posted some details of your game over on WebRPGs CP2020 forum and said you had vacancies for Techs, so I thought I'd mosey on over and see whats occuring.

Any room for one more (relative) CP2020 novice?

I know the genre, I write stories in the genre, I've read most of the rules, but my actual play experience is only one or two PBEMs.
