  1. I'd have to agree with Monk's general characterisation of the thing. To me, it is something Other People do, and that's fine enough.

I think putting gate mechanics to the issue would be either disturbing or inane.

  2. Jesus Christ...

that was, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the most depressing piece of text I've ever read anywhere. What it does is however give me a certain degree of purpose, the desire to be able to refute it, some day.

    I will.

  3. Hmmh, let's take stock of what we have here, and figure out how best to link it.

    - Wizard, a jack-of-all-trades and covert operative

    - Mage, Wizard's son and netrunner.

    - Anne Vescini, a European assassin and espionage expert (starred in my short story "Caleb" and its more refined and unreleased remake, "Echoes of Istanbul")

    - Monsieur Jacob Vidoqcue, keeper of the Shrine of Forgotten Words, a collector of arts and literature (from the ill-fated and poorly written "Spider's Web")

    - Michael Rifting, borderline raving lunatic and exiled member of the Digital Librarians (Infinity/Mike from "Stealing the Fire")

Hmm, two new arrivals and three of my more obscure "regulars". There's definitely a story there, to be uncovered by the gifted. Ideas are welcome, too. If anyone's read my stuff before, I would appreciate your views.

Now, of all my characters, Jacob Vidoqcue has to be my all-time favorite, rivalled by only Agamemnon/Villeroy/Gregorov, so it is logical to focus the tale on him, in one way or another. A quest for some lost literary treasure, mayhaps?

  4. Overly critical? Hardly.

I'm aware that the style of writing leaves a lot to be desired. That's one reason I've not really bothered to do any work lately. Oh well, I'll try.

Here's a third fragment, which is just as disembodied as the two before it.

    --

Two voices, in the almost-darkness of the Shrine. There never was much noise there, but now the two were all alone in the gloom and silence.

"They accuse me of chaos and willfulness when I am nothing more than a gauntlet in the hand of Fate. When Fate wills movement, I move. When Fate wills action, I strike."

There was a definite dramatic edge to the voice. It was not talking, it was declaring, with a sort of manic, insane urgency.

"How the hell do they dare?" the insane voice continued, echoing in the darkness.

"Shut up, Michael," said the other voice, a machine-voice. It issued from a speaker, full of malice and loathing. "For once in your life, hold your tongue. I have better uses for my time than listen to your inane self-justifications."

The first speaker, who was called Michael Rifting, said nothing. It was evident to him that he had overstepped the boundaries of his host's patience. He was not going to apologize, but he was not going to match wills with Jacob Vidoqcue, either.

Hmm, bad. No, I don't seem to be getting the hang of it today.

who doesnt wanna see genetically engineered super-kids mind-blasting their way through tokyo...

    Uh, me?

See, that sentence right there crystallized exactly what I loathed about Akira. ph34r.gif

Most of the films you guys mentioned are all cool , apart from harry potter films , retard.
Oh well could be worse , one of you could have seen scary movie 3
Only film i have ever walked out of , and i mean ever...

You PAID MONEY for Scary Movie 3 and call someone a "retard" for liking Harry Potter movies?

Nah, it's okay... I don't expect people to understand my eccentricities. Indeed, I take an unreasonable amount of pride in them. *shrug*

  7. 56 people? FIFTY-SIX?!? ohmy.gif

My gods... what the heck were the PCs on? For that matter, how freaking dumb were the cops? There is only one way that a "three vs 56" scenario ought to happen in Cyberpunk. Nuff said.

This is not an action movie...

  8. I had a long, good reply written there. Then I deleted it, accidentally. Oh well...

Do what you will. I've seen what the ready availability of autoweapons does to a game, and it was not pretty. after a while, we substituted blank paper for character sheets, since the PCs didnt last long enough to matter.

  9. Aye, those not only push the envelope, but smash right through the wall of the post office. The GM involved ought to tighten the reins a wee bit, before the game becomes a bloodstorm.

  10. I have to say that a satellite weapons system would have been a "logical" thing to develop in the Cold War times. It'd be a kind of Sword of Damocles to hang over Moscow/Washington. I dont suppose they actually did it, but I'm pretty sure there was some thinking about the matter.

After all, a weapon-sat would not require massive and easily-observed ground operations to set up (as was the case with the Cuban crisis). I have no idea whether the technology of the day was up to the task, but modern GPS and space technologies certainly would be...

    I RULE YOU!

I felt I knew 9 out of 10 questions. I could answer the one about the Assassin houses in year 40,000 (the correct answer was Biel-Tan, which is an Eldar Craftworld), I got the Kryptonite one right, too and correctly recalled the Zeroth Law.

    Whoo-hah! I'm the Nerd Master!!

And how about this: I've read all the Harry Potter books.  Which isn't a strange thing in itself, but consider that I'm a 19 year old male who's guitarist in a political punk band.   :and:

Well, I can top that. I've not only read the books, but also seen the movies and am writing a fanfic on the series. As a 20-year-old IT student, it don't get much weirder than that.

Am I the only one who has to come the conclusion that the cyberpunk world is beyond comprehension?

An interesting viewpoint and one with which I can agree. As I prefer to read fantasy and sci-fi these days (not that I read much), I'm often met with worlds quite removed from the sphere of my own experience. Trying to understand them is largely an individual process.

Some, like the hideous, perverted and sick world of Jeter's "Noir", seem completely alien, whereas in others there is something to grasp, some structure, pattern or model that allows one to understand if not the rules by which that world functions than at least the shape and nature of those rules. The boundaries of possible and impossible within that fictional realm, if you will.

Hm. I'm not sure if that makes sense to any of you, but it made sense to me when I wrote it.

As for criminality, in order to think like a criminal you have to start seeing people as things.
