  1. When I ran my last game the players all pretty much started out in the gutter without much slowly they rose as the accomplished tasks found new contacts and such.  The main deal being as time had gone by and crimes were being committed the police and security forces where starting to get a handle on who did what and when and develop[ing a profile on these people.

I had them brought in early on but luckily they pretty much talked their way out of anything other than a few days jail time and some fines for illegal guns.  The police having not yet gotten far enough into the budget to have solved some of the other crimes they have committed.

As time goes by and players tend to make the same moves and do some of the same things, patterns occur which will start to show up and give them away.  Also as they grow in Reputation it also becomes harder to stay hidden as more and more people will know who they are and what they have done.

So when you get a high Rep in one town you either should move get your SIN erased/changed or start working for some big Corp or other concern that can cover your tracks for you.  Otherwise it's Slammer time!

  2. I think this is an area that should really be left up to each and every GM to decide.

If giving your group a penalty works for you then that is good.  I have heard some people not allow players to even make attempts at skill zero.  A good compromise is to make or adjust the system of failures and botches when an unskilled player tries something.

For example if an unskilled players was attempting something each missed time the exact number need to succeed was not reach or exceeded then roll on the botch table near the begining of the book.

if the player needs a 15 to hit and roles a 14 or less with a skill of zero force them to roll on the failure table.

of Course the flip side of this is that shortly they should actually gain a skill level of 1 after a few attempts.

  3. ok if we need to do a short sideline on the evenings activities when can as we go along.

    = = = = = = = = = = =

The morning arrives with little fanfare as the early morning prayers are called forth over the speakers in the minaretts.  Rather earlier than perhaps you would have liked but the whole area is covered wioth religious sites as the people here in the Grand Bazzar are deep into their faith.

By the time the crew has cleaned up and is preparing for the day the sun has just started it's climb up into the sky signaling another warm and uncomfortable day in the slightly dusty streets.

Carts of vendors and shops can be heard and seen opening in the marketplace all around you and soon shoppers have come back out of the moques and drift slowly into the Bazzar.

Those that had spent shifts guarding the old Soviet military cargo truck of Ebin's over the night did not encounter any real problems.  Any real problems meaning a concerted effort to steal the truck, though many people did snoop around and then quickly leave once they found out someone was inside watching it.

  4. Linux is a 32 bit system OS and has been since I can remember so this problewm does not occur with older programs that will still work and have no need to be rewritten as often so Linux programs commonly have fewer bugs.

A second reason they have fewer problem is many programs are written by people fed up with windows crap programs that fail often.

Linux written originally by programmers for programmers without those nasty deadlines that tend to make more errors creep into a product.

And this is why Linux systems will always remain more stable until they possibly end up competeing one on one agaionst windows for home computing.

  5. Daneille works herslef slowly but surely back to the interrior of the cargo hatch, closing the door and repressurizing the cargo bay behind her.  After all that has been completed she makes her way back through the single pressure door between the cargo bay and the cockpit to talk with Kea.

Mayuki picks up her charge like a large sack of frozen potatoes and hefts him over her shoulder.  The mostly unconcious lump of a person moves and groans slightly at the slightly rough and rapid movement from the torroid section down to the launching bay.

  6. with windows I am not sure that is a fixable problem without upgrading your software.

That is the way they work windows is they want you to upgrade and buy a newer version, so they would most likely through tech support say you are using an unsupported version of windows OS and that you need to upgrade since the drivers are not supported anymore with the hardware properly.

And for once tech support would not be lying. :p

  7. Since the last few years, three maybe I don't really understand the part about learning linux as a real big barrier.

Ever since the xwindow shells linux has become easier and easier to learn if you already know how to use windows you could pretty much use linux if you could remember a user name and password.

Unless of course you want to do all the advanced stuff like scripting and writting your own stuff but that is really programmming and not using linux.

  9. Currently I am using Win XP personal but I always keep a version of linux on my machine.

First i will list the primary drawbacks of linux:

few new games written for it.

some printers won't give best results

can't watch the newest hacked porn clips

some difficulty installing other free add-ons

only one type of P2Pnetwork I know of (limewire)

Good Things on linux's side (when purchasing a copy from a large distributor like SUSE, or RedHat).

Low cost $39.99 or so for the entire package.

thousands of programs and utilities that sort of eliminates the free add-on problems with a loading manager.

setups easily better than Windows with all major brands of computer components.

you can rewrite the operating system anyway you want.

Compilers for most any computer language for free.

    best network security.

Does not suffer hate virus attacks since it's windows, almost no viruses effect the OS.

can act as a maniframe with multiple sessions up to 128 people using it at one time, provided you have enough hookups.

    Will run on 386's

good support on the web you can actually talk to the developers and or fix program problems yourself and recompile them.

    parrellel processor support.

Free programs to name a few:

    firewall

    office suites

    Apache Webserver

    MySQL

    SAP DB

cd, mod mp3 realplayer, mpeg, avi players

compatiblity to link change edit and rework files from one format to almost any other known to man.

    video creation and editing software.

    Audio editing software.

advanced painting and editing with the gimp.

    good html editors.

quite a few games for free ten times what comes with windows.

  10. We have many good writers here on the board.  I for one have already compiled and printed a city sourcebook from many of the writing here outlining a generic city for usage in Dark Future games.

I would welcome some more detailed background information about your game world, otherwise there is no way to work stuff in to write for it.

    my website: Night City 2030

Check out the section on Cyber City which is already in print and distribution worldwide.

The nice young lady I spent time with most of the day, including dinner if you bother to watch all the slide shows, and latter on when she said she would belly dance for us if someone would only play the drums for her.

hey it was one fun night! :D

  12. Well finally someone made a good slide show of the continuing construction just thought those that would like to see something along the lines of being slightly insane could view it.

A few notes.  the standing pylons will eventually hold two archers towers to either side and where the PVC can be seen on the tower stands is where the new level of the inside of the castle will be so that the attackers will have to run upwards through the gate area unto higher ground.

It is still far from complete but it is close to being what will be visible latter before all the beauty marks.  Note that in the background you can see part of what remains of the old castle.

    Opps forgot the weblink:

    Borderkeep

although I spent four weekends working on it somehow I never appear in any of the pictures.
