  1. Rocky, you should know by now that the truth and common sense has zero bearing on public opinion or charges being filed against you. DUH! <_<

Too bad everyone has forgotten these facts while maintaining their preconceived opinions and/or bitching about Zimmerman "getting away with it"...

  2. Too bad the NAACP (Negroes Against All Caucasian Planning) is already seeking civil rights charges against Zimmerman. Just goes to show that you can win the battle, but still lose the war. Also, Zimmerman's life is essentially over in terms of future employment opportunities and he'll be paying off his legal fees until he's dead at this rate.

After this case being done just for politics, it actually just might be better to be carried by six after all if you have to kill the wrong person to save your own life...

  3. Well, the per-round costs is going to be much higher. IIRC, the Marines started using a non-lead bullet design back in '08 or so to help cut down on the lead in the local water tables around their bases and the high-lead bloodwork that was popping up for folks that ran their killhouses.

  4. Hate to sound paranoid, but doesn't it seem just a tad bit suspicious that we had a whole grip of these "accidents" in a pretty rapid timeframe? Five derailments and several industrial accidents in just a few months is looking a bit janky to this kid, especially what with the pretty serious safety features trains have nowadays.

  5. Agreed, Strawberry-Cream. v3 killed any street cred R. Tal had dead, deader, DEADEST with an over 10-year wait and what can charitably be described as a complete letdown. Max Mike has a better get his caribeener bag because he's got a whole fuck-ton of climbing to do to make a whole mess of folks he's nothing but a has-been...

  6. And yet another year-long stretch without anyone posting about v3.

*Sung to the chorus of 16 Ton* "More than ten years and what did we get? Some barbie dolls and this pile of shit..."

Everyone is all geeked about 2077, but I can't help but be more than a bit apprehensive. I mean, V3 passed his "sniff test" and the editorial process, right? <_<

  7. I used to be all about "tweaking" the Cyberpunk background, rules, and other bits until it suddenly occurred to me that with this damn work, I might as well be playing something else...so I did. The fact remains that (at least in my opinion) there are more robust dice engines out there, more updated game worlds, and simply more thought put into the final product than we saw in CP2020.

It was a great first step, but there has been a whole mess of stairs I've climbed in the last 22 years. Looking back down, I find that I like the view up here a lot better.

  8. Then again it doesn't help that a Generation over there has grown up under Wahhabi and has been radicalized.

It's really hard not to be radicalized these days, to be frank. Think about it. There are exactly two groups spreading Islam around the globe. First, you have the Iranians, which just so happen to be rabidly anti-western ,and then you have the Wahabi, which also just so happen to be rabidly anti-western. They send carefully edited and modified copies of the Koran around to make it sound like the entire purpose of Islam is the burn every infidel and their little dogs, too. Imagine if the only way people were being taught about Christianity was from the Branch Davidians and Christian Identity to get a pretty good picture of what these people are being taught about Allah the Merciful and Just.

  9. Gun control laws are in the basic 2020 book, actually.

My rule of thumb has always been, "What your characters have access to, my NPCs have access to." In other words, I scaled the firepower to whatever the character's packed around except in certain circumstances were they had plenty of forewarning about the threat level going up a notch or ten.

  10. Well, I can honestly say that I have zero interest in re-buying a book, or series of books, that was printed 20 years ago. Ol' Max Mike needs to get off his ass and do a reboot or something because just doing a reprint is stupid with a side of lame sauce.

The world is a vastly different place than it was 20 years ago...

  11. Congratulations, Malek. Getting married is the best thing that ever happened to me, and I sincerely hope it proves the same for you. :)

Best advice I have for a blissful marriage is actually three very simple things and they have served me well:

    1) If there is a dirty diaper, just jump on the grenade and take it for the team. She will keep track of that stuff so when you want to go out with the guys, she'll very likely give you the "Go" when all of your friend's wives are hollering at them about it.

    2) Just stop what you're doing and empty the garbage right now, fer chrisakes.

    3) Never call her anything but her name or your favorite pet title. I use "Gorgeous", myself. They say name calling doesn't really hurt, but it does and it lasts forever (or until Alzheimer's kicks in). No matter how mad you might get, DON'T DO IT. If you've done it before, STOP RIGHT NOW.

  12. My main reference to the "untrained idiot" part is from an anecdote by one of the field commanders that lead the main offensive during the first Gulf Turkeyshoo...err, War. He was reminiscing about a visit he had paid to a tank battalion just to the east of the much-discussed Whatever Gap leading into Western Europe that we had a butt-ton of tac-nukes pointed at for around 30 years.

He had apparently arrived and was given the grand tour of the facility that culminated in a "training exercise" in front of some grandstands by the parade grounds on the base. The Soviet-bloc tankers drove out, did a few turns, traversed the turrets a bit, and run the tanks over some very well rutted bumps before returning to the garages to a blaring national anthem. Stunned, the General (Franks?) asked when the troops actually...you know, trained and he was given a confused look from his guide. "But the training is completed..." Needless to say we learned very quickly, and too late to matter, that the oft-mentioned with quavery voices Soviet-bloc armored corps was a freaking joke.

Mark brings up some good points. Most of our adversaries are minimally trained (grab gun, point this end at the Infidel/Imperialist/Yankee/Gringo, reload, bang switches) which I will define as effectively untrained. If you've seen those Yahoos shoot by and large, you would call them "untrained" as well. They are also easily convinced into needlessly endangering themselves for reasons that are well known but politically incorrect to discuss which by my own very likely bigoted and narrow-minded definition means that they are indeed "idiots". They might be martyrs to the guys they fight with, but we Americans pretty much sum them up as dumbasses. That said, you get the occasional diamond in the rough. They are relatively few and far between, spend an inordinate amount of time listening for the sound of an incoming Hellfire, but they do exist.

  13. The harsh reality is that people use AKs because they can't afford better weapons. Sights are a joke, ergos non-existent, and the largely poorly manufactured military ammo is a concern for accuracy as much as the poorly manufactured weapon can be.

It's a rifle made for untrained idiots and it's most used by...*drumroll* untrained idiots.

  14. The most depressing thing to me is that the extra marksmanship and gun handling training really isn't all that expensive when compared to the nine people now taking the NYPD to court for well over a million dollars each. Everyone keeps honking about expenses when the firearms trainers are already there on salary, the range is already there, the officers being trained are also on salary, and the ammo is bought in bulk lots which saves the department plenty of money compared to what I would have to spend for it.

  15. My big question about the situation discussed in the OP is, "How is the police department still running after the people forced to move sued them into the ground with the ten thousand pro bono lawyers that lined up to work for the headlines and the FBI arrested everyone even potentially involved for blatant civil rights violations?"

Look at Mogadishu, Beruit, and other war-torn areas. Lots of people died and the places had the asses tore out of them. Nobody is going to spend the millions and millions of dollars needed to buy and build (let alone patrol) a wall like the one you're describing, just like nobody has built one in these war zones. It's a great idea when you're 15 and still think Mad Max makes sense, it makes absolutely zero sense if you stop and think about it for more than 10 seconds.

  16. Strip joints, adult stores, liquor/pre-ban drug stores, party stores, convenience stores/gas stations, vending machines (somebody has to fill them, repair them, and take the money back out), cheap/burner phone and other small electronics stores, auto and appliance repair shops (they can't afford to replace them at the same rate as most consumers), pharmacies, brothels/braindance arcades (get the fake or the realio-dealio in one spot), fast food joints, etc.

Go to the rattiest neighborhood in your closest large urban area and start making a list, basically.

  17. 100% agreement with Mosca here. In a surprise situation you might give +1 to the longer-limbed opponent for the first round in a striking situation just because the smaller person doesn't know how far those gangly things will go, but once they get their range figured out it's all about raw talent and how much training time they have.
