  1. If yez do lots a shootin then minis is the way ta go!

There is quite a lot of good terrain out there for Warhammer 40k and Necromunda. Also there are companies that make terrain for said games unofficailly. Good old GW has some good books on making terrain for 40k.

I usually just use my dry erase mat and map out the terrain. If I do make terrain it is usually less than 100 sq meteres (GAME SCALE that is!). Small enough to fit on the table. Anything more grandiose than that and in my mind you've gone from RPG to war gaming. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I prefer the quick and effective firefight to the very detailed and "realistic" fire fight.  :uzi:

  2. "Hardwired" by Wlater jon Williams is pretty much a classic. There was even a Hardwired supplement for CP.

Also by WJW is a book called "Voice of the Whirlwind"

The only book I ever bought just for the cover and liked! It's a little bit further future than most CP, but the story has all the appropriate mystery and paranoia of a CP story.

  3. I had a power-gamer with a maxed out solo (I think you all call them munchkin characters???) and I designed a hit team to specifically destroy him. He was an experienced gamer and knew better. I did not pay any attention to his character when he roled him up because I figured he did not need any supervison.

Anyway the team was escorting an 18 wheeler with some important and less than legal Petrochem stuff in it, and they got ambushed on I-64 in eastern Kentucky. Little one man helicopters with .50 cal machine guns, an AV-4 with a sniper mounting one of those BAG (Big Ass Guns) from Chrome Book 2.  Dual Purpose ammo from CB2.

    He died. It was messy.

His next character was more character, less big numbers!

  4. I have to agree. I think letting them start with as high as a 7 is acceptable, but ultimatly the GM has to decide what kind of game he/she is running.

It is all kind of relative. If they do start at 5 or 7s just make sure they are not fighting/encountering  NPCs with 10s! Sure the PCs are gonna have a certain attrition rate, but we dont want to kill them off too quickly.

  5. This has not gotten a lot of press, so some of you may find this interesting.

The US Army and Marine Corps are fielding a new shotgun to replace the myriad of 12 GA currently in service.

It is the S-90 (Super 90) being produced jointly by H&K and Benelli. THe military is calling it the XM1014. It is a 12 GA semiautomatic weapon with a 3.00 inch chamebr capable of firing either 3.00 in magnum or 2.75 inch magnum ammunition. It has an 18" barrel and an optional 14" barrel. It has a modified fixed chocke and comes with modular and telescoping buttstock. It also can manually cycle ammunition for firing less powerfull non-lethal munitions.

    Here is the Benelli website.

  6. I think you are missing the point about stealth aircraft. WITHOUT them we would have lost many many more F-15 and F-111 aircraft flying missions downtown. The stealth technology worked so well that the Iraqis started firing all that AAA into the sky after the F-117s were long gone. The only reason the Iraqis even knew they were there was the detonation of the F-117 ordnance.

The F-117 made up only 1% of the coalition aircraft, but accounted for 40% of coalition ordnance dropped.

  7. I really dont see a place for levels in CP 2.0.2.0. I think skill improvements are good enough for character advancement. And of course story line advancement. Become leader of a Poser Gang, or become head of an underground crime family etc.(is there an above ground crime family? The Clintons maybe...)

  8. I am a big fans of minatures. I am also an avid wargamer. But when using figs in role-playing I prefer to use them on the table top just to show relations during a fire fight. I have only used "elaborate" terrain for critical firefights. i.e. the "grande finale" of a campaign etc.

Be carefull. You have to decide ahead of time, "am I running an RPG or a miniature war game?" Sometimes players who came to role-play will get bored with pushing lead around.

  9. The British Army website calls it the SA-80. I ran into some british soldiers in Tuzla (I think they were Kiwis actually) who had their rifles with them. They were not even sure what the official designation was. The weapon was stamped "rifle 5.56mm"

Gringoleader, you are definatly comparing apples and oranges when comparing strategic bombers and individual weapons.

Also, in fourteen years of service we have only lost one stealth aircraft in combat. And the pilot was rescued safely. Also I think the family's of the B-2 pilots that flew missions over Kosovo would argue that money was money well spent.

I think the stealth aircraft are a perfect example of putting troops before money.

  10. Also for those who dont so much like the heavy stuff, Garbage has a kind of cyber-twist to their music.

I knew a guy who used to que up his CD player with music for different settings. Techno if we walked into a dance club, metal for the combat zone etc. Takes a little more coordination than I am prepared to put into my gaming sessions!

  11. Um. The Israelis live in a desert. FN is the current contractor bulding the M-16A2 for the US. A belgian company. The Isrealis have no shortage of choices of what weapon system to buy. I dont think they are going to issues their soildiers a weapon system they do not have 100% faith in. I mean, what other country is as likely to wind up with joes in combat as the Israelis?

  12. Well, I have been carrying an M-16A2 for 11 years, including 326 consecutive days in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1996. I will swear by the M-16. The latest incarnation of the M4 is outstanding. Also, the army looked at replacing it in the 80s/early 90s, and none of the entrants significantly out performed the M-16A2. Icluding the Steyr entry.
