  1. According to the original, Interlock rules of Cyberpunk 2020?

No, you can't. Stats may be reduced, but never improved (excluding cybernetics / plastic surgery / performance-enhancing drugs).

Which, as I always say, is curious, given how Santiago Aldecado rose from INT 5 in the "Never fade away" (the adventure in the basic rulebook) to INT 7 in NeoTribes sourcebook.

I'm not sure about Interlock Unlimited rules, I'm not that familiar with them.

The question, however, is whether you want to give your players such an option - or not.

If not - then there is no such thing in the rules, fullstop.

If yes - we could find somethig in IU, or cook something up on our own...

I've always been happy that the only way to boost stats is using technology. Fits in with my transhuman vision of the world and it's kinda fun seeing desperate characters turn to drugs to get that extra edge..

I don't remember there being anything in IU along those lines - however it has pretty much everything else so I could have missed it

  2. @Boris - Going to flesh out background a little.

Colonel Podovsky - He's the guy who ran your unit with an iron fist. A man you learned to hate and fear in equal measures, a man without emotion, one who never accepted failure and with a zealous devotion to the mother Russia.. A grad A hard bastard basically

Could you let me know - Did you complete that last mission and were your actions at odds with the rest of the unit?

Russian mafia - It was their network that smuggled you over to America - It is to them that you owe your debt.

The mission was completed successfully and without complications. It was the uneasy felling that had been building and the post action press coverage that cemented my decision to go to ground. Is my new "friend" from the ship - the one who brought me to the fights - my contact with the Mafia, or do I still have to make contact with them now that I've arrived in NC?

Cool. That helps me. At this time you don't appear to have been given an official contact just cast off the boat. Your character knows that they will keep an eye on him in some fashion and expect the debt to be repaid - but isn't exactly sure as to the process. They never really go through that bit.. funny that

Dmitri is just a cook

@Atta - Are you able to flesh out to me what Siskin did before he came to NC? Why did he go there etc. Any notable family / friends. I love a good backstory and I like to weave this into the world. Trying to get a handle on character motivations

Well, I've PMed you what I was able to get on the run. The thing is, Siskin is basically "just an ordinary guy", and I've learned that for online gaming, it doesn't mkae much sense to put too much effort into background creation.

Also, it should be a dialog. I don't know how your version of CP world works - can't do much without the GM.

If you want a friend / enemy / lover to appear on the scene, just make them do so.

Thanks Atta, what you sent on PM is fine for me.

Agree normally these online games fizzle within a short space of time - so simple is often better. Lets try to keep this going - Quite busy with a product launch at work but I should be posting every couple of days

  4.

Holding the arm in the iron grip of his massive cyberarm, Boris begins to rain blows on his opponents elbow -

"Sukin syn, you cry like little girl," he calls out.

A red mist of rage descends and you can see the face of Colonel Podovsky screaming at you "Po'shyol 'na hui!". He squirms hard, striking at your cyberarm to try to break the iron grip but to no avail. You moves weren't as fast but your aim is true. as you hit him once, then again, and again.. and with that last strike a sharp 'crack'

Suddenly the ref is in your face, his arm reaching across your opponent protecting him from another strike - He growls "It's over - back off"

    Rolls

Cool [9] - Combat PTSD - where that temper comes from :P

    Sambo [12] - A good solid hit

another Cool [1] - Snap back to reality and manage not to strike the ref

  5. @Atta - PPE - Personal Protective Equipment - Hi Vis vest and suchlike

You find a recent delivery of inks, shaking out the contents and replace with the comic.. Grabbing a roll of duct tape from a drawer you head for the rest room and standing on the can, stretch up for the aircon vent..

A quick thump allows you access to the ducting and just off to one side of the new opening you place the comic. You throw in the unopened wallet for good measure and pull it all back into place.

Heading back into the shop you look around. No-one there so you just try to act cool.. just a normal day..

As the hours tick by there is no sign of the window people.

Some customers come in for prebooked appointments - nothing out of the ordinary there.

Ariel comes back and assists, bringing back some street food (noddles) for lunch

    FYI

Roles you passed.. Athletics [13] - didn't slip on the toilet seat

Cool check [3] - no flapping and you manage to do a good job of acting normal

Tattooing [14] - even managed to do some awesome work on the customers

  6. I came to it late and found the 2nd edition rules in the mid 90s while in my early teens after an RPG diet of AD&D up to that point.

I had however, already found Appleseed (still have the 1st book) and the printed GITS and other Animi like Akira, Cybercity Odeo 808 and those were my inspiration for creating something else. I used the Interlock system to define that world rather than the classic cyberpunk. At that time the Interlock rules were a refreshing revelation!

As I matured I gravitated towards a more freeform character gen and inspired by Ocelots points based system started rewriting that part of the game. Naturally it ended up a complete overhaul of FNFF, weapons, equipment, skills, tech and I've ended up with something of a monster than I'm still working on (I've had breaks spanning years though)

Where have I ended up.. More Transhumanism than distopian-cyber-rebellion. I've spent a lot of time trying to define the differences between staying meat, using metal or nano & biotech and how the society interacts with those who make those choices. Add small proxy wars, religious backlashes against tech, governments attempting to keep control with global access to data and tech breaking down geographic barriers, corporations hungry to capitalise on opportunities to make money, environmental disasters, a push into orbit and the moon and it's still a lively mix. Some of that, is, I think 'cyberpunk' but not in its truest sense

  7. You dial a contact from your phone and the line connects straight away.. "You've come through to A1 Glass.. How may we be of service?"

"Why, we've someone already in the area on another job who can be with you in an hour"

They are there really quickly, you'd barely started any clearing, a pair of workers, clean van, clean uniform, all the right PPE. They introduce themselves as John and James. One - You think it's James - starts to measure up slowly as the other looks around inquisitively.

They're a chatty pair, and you happily talk to them for the next 15mins. Conversation 'drifts' to the events of the morning. They appear more intent on talking than doing much work.

"Gonna need to redecorate there" - pointing to some fresh holes

"Rotten luck for that dude outside" indicating outside!

"Did he say what he did?"

"Didn't recognise the guys that got him - probably a good thing mind"

"A man like that got some'fin to hide"

"Come on, what did he do in here? Really a tattoo that's it"

"I heard the police didn't find a thing on his body except a gun. No ID or nuffing"

"All over the news innit. Said he was seen with a package just before he died"

"Right guv, that's all measured up. We'll be back in an hour with the right sized glass. Catch you later! And with a cheery wave they leave.

An hour comes and goes - two hours. You sweep the glass up fully and are just moving the seating when out of the corner of your eye you spot a flash of colour under a chair that shouldn't be there - one that you recognise immediately. It's a 1979 Captain America comic book..

  8. Glad to see she's okay.

"You may wonder, Ariel, but I don't think it'd be healthy to ask that aloud. The guys seemed pro to me, and packed serious heat. If the pigs can get them and make them account for it, great. If not, that's just another day in the Street, ain't it?"

"Now excuse me, if I don't actually jump in excitement over the NC's Finest. Or" - I nod towards the drones on the pavement - "NC's Clankiest. Still the same shit, and now they're going to come in here and make a crappy morning of a crappy day loaded with shit to even more full capacity, thank you, officer, sir..."

Depending on what I do know on the level of trigger-happiness of the police drones I either take up to cleaning the shop or just sit on my butt waiting for the drones to leave (which they aren't likely to do before questioning me. I guess I've outlined what I'm going to feed them with in the previous post :P).

Ariel heads out the back with a cheery wave "Going out for a bit!" and it's a while before the cops come in. The questions are more, form filling exercise rather than a decent attempt at an investigation. Before long you are left alone, the activity outside dies and you are left to clear up in peace

You're quick, but Cody's reactions are lighting fast and he slips to one side as you steam on by heading for the ropes..

As you pass he shifts nimbly on the balls off his feet.. his right leg flicking out to execute a perfect back kick..

.. Whether his balance was off or blood on the floor it doesn't matter. His expression turns from smugness to 'Oh shit' as his left leg slips out from under him and he hits the ground hard.

[no need to role initiative for this round - choose an action and roll]

You are ignoring the crowd but their screams go up an octave.

Boris's cyberarm flashes out as he attempts to grab an appendage of the downed fighter.

(Going for an attempted grapple on an arm or leg)

With the wind knocked out of his sails you easily grab an arm and he screams out in pain as your hand clamps on tight.

  9. @Atta - Ariel enters from the street as the chirp of a siren and the roar of turbofan thrusters announce the arrival of a police Osprey. The noise followed quickly by a booming thud as 4 police drones* land on the pavement their guns drawn and their digital eyes searching for threats

An electronic voice rings out from a speaker "Night City PD - Stay where you are. Prepare for questioning. Any hostile action will be met with lethal force."

"Those goons didn't even take his wallet so I think our ex friend is going to pay for your time after all" She grins wryly as she tosses you the wallet. "wonder what they wanted?"

There is a further roar as the Osprey soars up and over the block, leaving the street a hive of activity as beat cops join the ensemble and begin questioning people in the street.

*police drones are humanoid in shape - think these.. This is not community policing in action.. IPB Image

  10.

    Total Awareness check value 24 (dice roll @ 3d6 = value 11).

As the SUV speeds off you recognise it has a government plate.. It's moving too quickly for you to recognise any additional detail, bar that its the latest Chevy Tahoe - In sinister black.

  11.

Now that he's approached so close..... AND the speedware has kicked in - 3d6 roll of 14 + 7 REF + 3 for speedware = 24

Boris dives in to his opponents midsection and attempts to drive him in to the concrete.

    Sambo skill of 3 + REF of 7 + 3d6 roll of 10 = 20 on the takedown

    (here's hoping  )

You're quick, but Cody's reactions are lighting fast and he slips to one side as you steam on by heading for the ropes..

As you pass he shifts nimbly on the balls off his feet.. his right leg flicking out to execute a perfect back kick..

.. Whether his balance was off or blood on the floor it doesn't matter. His expression turns from smugness to 'Oh shit' as his left leg slips out from under him and he hits the ground hard.

[no need to role initiative for this round - choose an action and roll]

You are ignoring the crowd but their screams go up an octave.

  12. Waiting to find out if Tiger is still playing.

If he is then I'll look to post at least every couple of days.. move this forward with some momentum.

Hope it's alright so far as this is my first online game. The underground fighting I feel, was an integral part of Wraiths story.. It's not in mine. Gonna move this part of the story on

    Sorry Wraith B)

@Atta - Need an awareness roll from you - see if you grab the licence number. Let me have the result here and I'll move the scene forward

  13. @Atta

You check around the shop for Ariel trying to remember where she was before all this started.

From outside you hear a vehicle come to an abrupt halt. Curiosity gets the better of you and you sneak another glance out the window..

The 3 men have formed a perimeter around the body, a dark SUV behind them - They've been joined by a stern looking man dressed in a sharp suit who searches the body before looking around a puzzled look on his face.

Down the road you hear sirens, a police car approaching.

The foursome exchange sharp words and then pile into the SUV, speeding off with a short chirp of the tires as a pool of blood starts to form around the body.

    [Make another Awareness Roll]

  14. Everyone was kung foo fighting..

These are the rules I use for Martial Arts.

All martial arts techniques have key attacks which reflect the particular strengths

of the technique. When a key attack is used, the character gains

an attack and damage bonus (depending on the style of martial

art). Regular brawlers only receive their Str bonus for damage.

Defensive manoeuvres do not have a damage bonus such as

dodge, parry, disarm, escape etc. On attacking manoeuvres the

damage bonus applied cannot be higher than your martial arts

    level /2.

Here is a link to MA damages. Yep these are fixed - sorry dice roll lovers :)

    IPB Image

For damage modifiers I use the following table. In my rules I split out BOD into Fitness and Strength. Both are completely separate to build. For this game, as we have created characters with BOD, I'll use the official wound boxes and assume that BOD = Strength for all other purposes.

    IPB Image

I need to have a look at Sambo for Tiger. I'll let you know the bonuses shortly. I don't think I changed those from the vanilla rules as above. This'll have to wait until I get home and then I will publish the complete Martial Arts table. Formatted for ease of reference

All combat is actually a VS roll between two people.. For Melee it would be

    Attackers REF + SKILL + 3d6

    VS

    Defenders SKILL + REF + 3d6

    It's close so range isn't a factor.

At range it's the following - I'll elaborate further soon.

    REF + WEAPON SKILL + 3D6 - RANGE PENALTIES

    VS

    Defenders DTN (REF + 10)

Mostly you won't have to worry.. Just tell me the roll result and I'll apply the mechanics. This is just for the interested. Consider yourselves an unofficial playtest of my homebrew rules :)

    Feel free to comment though.

  15. @Atta,

You see your customer on his back, prone, just outside the shop, a handgun hanging off his fingertips . He's twitching a little - but your not sure that's a sign of life.

3 masked figures approach him, clad in black overalls and vests, looking very much like a trained SWAT team but without any identifiable markings, faces covered with balaclavas. They're carrying what looks like silenced Kriss Vectors. They move quickly but with purpose, covering each other as they get closer to the body

From somewhere you here an engine revving hard on approach..

    @Tiger,

Your opponent (Lets call him Cody), clicks his neck, puts up his hands in a steady guard and takes a step towards you.

**Roll Initiative and add REF. Describe what you'd like to do**

  16. I assumed it opens into the street.

Apart form that, there is no further detail over what was already writthen in the psots by Wraith...

Tiger - the grizzled fighter in front of you slaps you on the side of your face with his glove..

Are you just going to stand there and take it like a bitch? :D

@Atta - I'm ready to keep your part of the story going and I'll post more tonight. I cannot go too far without going way out of time though

  17. @Atta, He thanks you for your time and heads purposely out the door. As you turn to put away your things, you jump! The front window shatters in an explosion of glass, as the street is filled with a crescendo of pops and bangs.. then silence.

@Tiger, You manage to keep your cool :) The Ref points to where each fighter should stand and your opponent fires off a few quick jabs and sharp a roundhouse kick before settling on the spot. The crowd go mental.. roaring out their approval.

The Ref shouts out. "Okay you two punks. I want a good clean fight. Nobody tries to kill the other unless I say 'lets get it on'. Any questions?"

    "Let's get it on!"

  18. Atta - Re charging for time - I haven't had a tattoo in RL either so its whatever you feel the character would do. I won't correct.

Will assume no payment is taken based on what you have written

    Also Atta,

Could you briefly describe the immediate location. Does the door of the shop open out onto the street or is it part of a collective of shops. If this isn't set already I will make up as I flesh out the story.

A quick description of the inside layout would be great.

  19. @Tigerguard: Your $500 is snatched away by the ref and there is a flurry of activity as the crowd place their bets.

Dimitri takes you to your corner, and doesn't say anything. Taking the duffel and your cash he steps ringside with Magda - leaving you with a reassuring squeeze to the shoulder.

(You've placed a bet with $500. Is Dimitry just looking after the rest?)

You fix your opponent with your gaze, one which is matched, unblinking, a snarl etched across his face. He's well built, someone who spends a lot of time in the gym or fighting and he carried himself with a certain amount of grace and confidence. No noticeable cyberware.

The ref is still shouting excitedly, bigging up the fight and taking bets.. You catch something about your opponent being the local favourite.. undefeated.. the crowd are going mental!

@Atta: Your customer seems overly chatty, twitchy, nervous "first time getting a tattoo!" he mutters. He keeps glancing at his watch, his level of agitation rising as the mins tick by. After 10-15mins he gets up suddenly from the chair.

"Sorry, I gotta dash. Can I come back tomorrow?"

"What do I owe you for your time so far?"

  20. This is the thread where I'll discuss game mechanics. I'm using you all as a test bed for my home brew of rules -

I'll add to this and clarify as we work our way through the game. It's very much still interlock but with changes for clarity and because probability curves matter :D

If you are performing a skill check I'm happy for you to make the roll and tell me the result.

    https://www.wizards.com/dnd/dice/dice.htm

All roles are made on 3d6. Give me this result and beside it the related Stat, skill and level you are using.

Tigerguards roll for his Awareness Check

    ROLL: 13 / INT 6 / SKILL: Awareness +7 - Total 26.

I will then tell you what happens in the game based on that figure.

    CHARACTER GEN

Wraiths character gen rules are below. We're running with those as written

Ok, 220 Build points. Stats are 2 per 1 and skills are 1 per 1 times the multiplier. *see below*

    scene

Year is 2025 after the forth Corp war and after Kei's demise all of the players in that have vanished. It's been about three years sense and Night City is just rebuilding. You'll notice that the S.A.'s are there and yes I use them. The ones not there have been removed for a reason. I'm not intreasted in these roles. On the other hand if you can in pm's give me a reason why you would want to switch out combat sense for combat sneak we can talk about it. I also would like fresh characters and not not characters preset up from other pbp games. Heell, if you can come up with a Role concept and sell it to me and make it believeable, try me. *shrug* Oh, multipliers are in ()'s. Cool? Ow ya,yer most likely thinking about "Hey, what about cash to start off with?" well rmeber this, any build points you have left over is worth 500 E.B. a piece...peice? Ya you know....

    * - These martial arts are either rare, or limited somehow by a geographic area. They require GM’s permission in order to choose.

During character creation, Martial Arts cost points equal to their IP multiplier for each level of the Martial Art. Therefore, a character who has spent 6 points in Karate(2) would have Karate at 3. I realize you may be disappointed by this, but I do that in order to limit the presence of high martial arts skill levels in the game, as well as to represent the amount of effort that learning advanced martial arts at high levels would require. Someone who has spent the equivalent of 20 points of learning on Karate would have not progressed as far in his Panzerfaust training. (Karate 10 vs Panzerfaust 4)

MArts with a “©” after their strike bonus have the Cast Key Attack. Gun Fu may use its Cast bonus as an additional +1 WA.

I am letting everyone know now, if you do join and post something not I think is wrong *skipping ahead in game time, adding a contact you didn't speak to me about* I will kindly tell you the problem with your post and ask you to edit it. I'll wait a day or two for you to do so, if not I will then have the post removed and ask the other players to act as if the removed post did not happen. If you are going to be unable to post for a fair amount of time, please post yourself in a postion to leave the game I.E. if your going on a vaction and the game is moving out for a run, post that your getting the flu or something.

  21. Note to all. As we are all adults here. If you are performing a skill check I'm happy for you to make the roll and tell me the result.

  22.

Right.. so I was told to come here. I'm new to the Cyberpunk 2020 stuff and I'm very open to learning.

    Welcome Sterben.

As discussed on G+ this is the online game I mentioned. Happy to let you join in too.

Are you completely new to the genre? Have you Role Played before? Have you read any of the rule books?

Wraith who created this game uses a character Gen method that slightly differs from the official rules. The foundations however are similar.

First I'd get hold of a copy of the 2nd edition rulebook to get the flavor of the game world and the mechanics. Can be found on the web as a download officially and unofficially. That'll give you an idea as to the setting.

Then i'd think of a concept or hook for a character. Run that by me and I'll help integrate it into the game, the gameplay tends to be adult in nature so I tend to encourage the creation of a character with depth, motivation, and vulnerabilities. This ain't D&D

The rules for character building are here:

    http://vfte.cyberpunk.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=7502

Start on P1. The basic premise is that you split the 'build' points between stats, skills and cyberware.

Basically ask questions.. read this site... we all started somewhere and myself and everyone still here can guide your first steps.

Going forward this game is going to be run - at least for the time being - by me, in absence of the original GM. Being my first online game I too will be finding my feet. Aiming for a hard, gritty street feel. Role Playing is encouraged, violence is a part of life, actions have consequence, and people are not bullet proof. Above all I do want everyone to enjoy it and won't punish creativity.

We'll get more into the mechanics once you've found your feet a little
