  1. I read a study recently the japanese population is dropping. People aren't getting married and having kids there as much as they used too. China is the same way. With China it would make a little more sense as it's a very dense population and the government might be pressing for population control. Japan is a little bit of a mystery. They come up with sex robots and porn is more mainstream there than anywhere else, but the baby population is down. It's also kinda strange the Crime rates in japan are among the lowest in the world.

  2. I have personally always wanted to play in a setting like Japan or Korea or just someplace far east. The previous posts gave you some corps long overlooked in the books for the setting. When I run in a western country and someone has a weapon like the enfield double tap or a towa pistol, I treat it like it's a rare weapon. The reverse would be just as true there I would imagine. American guns would be more rare.

Norinco, Daewoo, Armscor are all eastern gun manufacturers.

Good luck with your setting and keep us posted how it's going

  3. Well, basically same here - .177 equals 4,5mm, if memory serves me. Most commercially available airguns are in that caliber.

That being said, one of the letters in the SoF #2 (coming from a Frenchman) speaks about a H&K weapon (SMG? Carbine? I remember reading it in Polish, so can't be sure there...) in .177 he's using, and which he considers to be providing adequate firepower in civilised areas of Europe. Of course SoF editors have a different opinion, but so did they on "wondernines". The weapon itself was never mentioned in any other material.

On the other hand, we have a 4,5mm assault rifle in Cyberpunk (Militech M31A1). And RL 4,6x30mm H&K is pretty serious ammo, too (though I'd rate it closer to 3d6 damage of the 5,7x28mm myself). The Czechs are said to have developed 4,38x30mm Libra. I'm not mentioning various rifle cartridges in .17, because that's a different kettle of fish...

Mike, the 4.7X30mm H&K round is horrible. While it is easily suppressed to the point where you can dump 20 rounds into a terrorist and not wake his buddy in the next tent. You need those 20 rounds to reliably kill the man. That little issue is why some units are moving away from MP7 PDWs. One of these days i should video a side by side of a HK M416C, a FN P90 and a HK MP7. For the most part a short barreled 5.56X45mm Assault Rifle stomps all over the other two weapons.

Oddly enough I did the math on this round and the 5.7 mm round. Know what they both have in common. The old formula for calculating cyberpunk damage is the fps of energy / 40. Oddly enough the higher end rounds for both of these calibers pack the same punch of a 9mm respectively. About 570 joules. In cyberpunk terms this means you can flatten your bullets against body armor faster and more efficiently than ever before. In real world applications either round is just as good or maybe better than a 9mm.

  4. My preferred weapon is a .357 revolver. Why? Because I can switch out the caliber to suit my needs. For home defense there is nothing in the world that will stand up to a 357 hollow point to the center mass. For target practice and for the wife's use I can swap out those 357s for 38 special. Decent hitter without the recoil of a 357. Makes me wish I had an M-47 Medusa just so I could plink with just about any caliber i wanted. The gun itself sucks when firing anything smaller than a 357 or 38, but it can fire 9mm and some other rounds fairly easily.

    Gun Jesus Reviews the Medusa

As a side note I once had a character who was a gunsmith that started with an X-38. Tweaked the gun where it was 3d6 instead of 2d6 by changing the level of propellant in the chamber. I used it like once and built a better gun, and customized some more, and before you know it I had more custom guns than I could ever use.

  5. In some places the 5.7mm is very popular. The mexican cartels especially love them since they can get large quantities of AP ammunition. It's gotten to the point where the FiveseveN pistol is known in Mexico as the "Cop Killer".

I own a FiveseveN and they are nice pistols to shoot and much more enjoyable than a .22 TCM.

The FN Five Seven has made a bit more of a splash than folks realize. It's a popular round for military and law enforcement applications and is the official handgun of the Secret Service. I have done some research on the gun and the round and really the standard 5.7 is not any more effective against body armor than a 9mm. The AP ammo for it is VERY effective at getting through body armor. Like you I thought what was basically a rifle cartridge in a pistol would be an AP round naturally. After some youtube research I found several tests had been performed with standard 5.7 vs body armor and its not a magical cartridge that cuts through kevlar like butter. From everything I've read and seen it is a great round and more effective than a 9mm.

  6. I'm jealous of your crew...i never got to play the forlorn hope adventures all the way through but always wanted too

    5 20 gauge slugs

    Thrice broken cell phone {held together with tape and shockingly works}

Old Paratrooper boots held together by duct tape

The name might seem familiar if you have ever read the Night City Stories Scenarios. Wilbur was introduced and killed in the first few minutes of the pcs encounter with their employers on the first mission. I fleshed him out a bit and am using him as an npc in a roll20 campaign.

His story was that he wasn't always a druggie. At one time he was a very successful solo with a lot of talent. One rogue operation changed that. He missed a claymore during a job. His metal gear armor saved him, but he was hurt badly. He needed lots of work and rehab to get back up to snuff. Painkillers dulled his reflexes and senses so he started mixing them with snapcoke and it took it's toll on him physically and mentally. Now he is just wandering the streets of Night City pillaging dumpsters for food and recyclables. He has a wealth of knowledge that could be passed on if he found the right pupil.

  8. Stray,

One of the side effects of the "War" on meth is that several people i know who have breathing problems cannot get enough medication if they are sick to releave their symptoms enough to function. It seem that some of the more effective decongestants are used to make Meth and if you need more than a politically decided arbitrary amount you become suspected of making meth. Same with Opiates and pain killers. I've known people who's daily pain levels are crippling and with some of them the amount of pain killers they need are staggering.

While I do get why there needs to be some regulation on drugs Politicians are regulators go too far. Hell one FDA member may have by blocking medications from being certified for human use killed 10,000+ people.

Ephedrine is not really necessary for breathing issues. PLENTY of medications that are prescribed for asthma and copd. Zyrtek and claritin are the only antihistimes I have seen prescribed and Ephedrine is old school drug for asthma and there is no evidence it does much as a decongestant. It's more used as a stimulant and in this state you have to sign at the counter to buy a bottle of it. If someone is managing their sob with ephedrine then they are doing it wrong.

  9. I actually read something that said the Feds were going to pass a law to make gun laws universal from state to state with texas as the blueprint. Not sure I buy it, but it makes more sense than all this state to state crap that has been going on forever. In some places gun control is so skewed it's ridiculous. My brother in law retired from the military a Lt. Colonel, was a green beret, and worked with the CIA and secret service. The city of Baltimore would not give him a concealed carry permit. You can bet every dealer on the streetcorner had one though.

  10. Yup I have my own collection. it's grown quite a bit since I moved up to Oregon. Mind you that all but the m1911s are illegal in California. The Remington Tac-14 is in California "sawed-off" shotgun. I am also now a member of the VFTE H&K Roller lock and clone club. With a PTR-91FR and a PTR-32P.

The 32P is currently in the shop getting upgraded. It's effectively a MP-5 in 7.62X39mm.

You know you are living in a state on the downhill slope when they are passing bogus laws against 1911s. Isn't Oregon working on some idiotic 5 round max capacity law?

  11. Well, I would be likely minded, I think, if I were living over there!

...also, punching paper or not, I'm still interested in firearms. So, for my curiosity, what have you got yourself? :)

The latest is an EAA Windicator. I always liked 357s because you can swap out the ammo and shoot 38s for target practice. It's heavy and powerful but the kick isn't too bad and it's fairly accurate for a weapon with a 2 inch barrel. Since a gun owner should also be responsible there are other toys I bought with it. A holster of course and a safe to keep it in. Wouldn't want my grandbaby to get it so it's locked up tight.

  12. Good for you.

Folks tend to moan how difficult it is to get firearms here, but quite a few of my airsofting buddies went through it with little hassle (comapred to what the word in the street claims it to be!).

Naturally, they got "sporting permits" rather than "personal defense permits", but that basically means they aren't to walk around with loaded guns.

...well, myself, I don't plan to go that way: I have discovered quite a while ago that putting holes in paper targets just isn't fun for me.

Shooting is an expensive hobby without a doubt and it's not for everyone. I bought a gun not because I wanted to punch paper, but because the world is becoming more dangerous by the day. In small town USA murder is becoming a bit more common as is violent crime. Being damn near 50, I'm getting too old to throw hands and it's stupid to think you can win against an armed opponent anyway. My gun is for defense of my family and these days it just seems foolish to not have one.

  13. I'm just hoping to see suppressors removed from the NFA list.

In my state It's already done. I know a guy who bought a supressor and is waiting for the ATF paperwork to clear. He owns the item, he can go to the range and shoot with it anytime he wants, as soon as the ATF is done he can take it home. Shit I just bought a gun and was in and out of the store with the weapon and ammo in less than thirty minutes. Back in the day you had to take paperwork to the sheriffs department to run your name and clear you for the purchase. Now it's done on site with no hassle. God bless America.

  14. I have been running a cyberpunk game on roll20 for a pretty long time now. The current players have been at it about 6 months with some new joiners and some dropping off here and there. I was feeling a little burned out and asked the players themselves if one of them wanted to try a hand at running a bit to let me recharge. Had a taker and set up a plot only to bail when shit was getting interesting.

Now this left me an hour to prepare something and I had the seed of an idea growing in my mind a while and planted the seed that night in game. The bozos gassed a nightclub and literally stole everyone inside. Not only did they steal the people, they left everything they had behind, by this I mean the head bozo had all the clubgoers clothes cut off and the gassed victims are taken to a remote location to play a new game show. Two players are contestants, one is a captive of head bozo guy, and only one managed to escape. The players were really into it which shocked the shit outta me because my prep time was literally one hour.

I have the bulk of the adventure complete. Loads of weird and schizophrenic types you would expect in the bozos gang but I really want my head bozo {Chucklefuck the clown} to pop with some awesomeness that really brings the hate and makes him the centerpiece of the clown cabal. So if reading this gives you an idea or three or five shoot me a pm and share.

I think what I got is really good so far...but I'm shooting for epic.

  15. Cryotank is a star wars thing but we have a real life metaphor for it called a hyperbaric chamber. I learned to operate one in school but didn't keep in practice. Thing I'm saying is...medical training includes the use of tools inside the scope of practice. In other words I wouldn't hamstring my players with a million and one skills for medicine. I have a lot of tools I use in my job, if you wanted to break them down and list them it would be a page or better. Lots of machines and tools. Ventilators, Bipaps, a plethora of oxygen devices.

When players wanted to play a medtech in my games it was always 2 skills. First aid and medtech. All the zoology and all that bullshit is just bloat in my opinion. One of the main reasons most folks dont want to play medtechs is because they have a very weak skillset. Alot of bloated skills with no practical gameplay use. Yeah I get a doctor/medtech is going to be a little more brainy than most, but alot of that shit really is rolled up into your basic medical training.

  16. Medicine Especially surgery is a pretty complicated thing in the real world to the layman, in a game it's broken down to some skills and dice rolls. The cybertech thing I see and I don't. Cybernetics is the melding of metal and flesh. Thus to me if a med tech doesnt have cybertech he doesnt know how to make the flesh and the cyber interact. That's just how I see it.
