  1. I suppose I'll wade in...

I love the movie. I love sf and film noir - so I became somewhat demented with desire to wear trenchcoats and live in a CP future when I just saw the movie.

I read the sequels - I liked them. When I read them the weather was dark and rainy and very CP, and I was really depressed from hi-school so the mood fitted perfectly. It was great.

I thought they were sequels to the movie, not the original DADOES...but I didn't care. It was the feel - I *love* the feel of BladeRunner. It rocks. Take me there now...

The original book  - hm. If I read it and didn't know what cyberpunk was, it would've looked some a creepy 70's Logan's Run kinda future...I think CP has been applied to it, more than it generating it. I just don't find it hi-tech enough.

    Anyway...it was a strange read.

Anecdote time! As a result of reading the sequels, they said that BladeRunner derived from 'Bleib Ruhiger' - or stay quiet in German. Anyway - I was talking about the german language at a friends place, and managed to tell someone what it meant...and it just didn't come out right...it was like I was telling them to shut up...oh well :p

  2. I've managed to volunteer myself to help develop Axel Shades in a Flash5 format.

This won't mean just converting the old one over - it would be good if we could get a new story happening.

...So while Mr.Cyberjunk and myself argue about implementation, loading movie clips and other general crap -

...any suggestions? Plot hooks? Things you think Axel should do?

Things I've already thought of might be something like a shooting gallery (yes, I could have a cyberoptic upgrade improve your accuracy) and making the whole thing into a cool little hand-held looking device.

...please bear in mind my sanity... ;)  :shoot:

  3. Stealth. Hm.

I imagine the closest we'll ever be likely to see is some kind of active camouflage - cloth that changes colour. Lie on the ground and press a button, then it averages out appropriately coloured blobs all over...stuff that would give you a few points bonus to your stealth skill, but not too much.

What about forgetting the light part of the spectrum and jamming everything else? That way the enemy has to rely on seeing you - and if you're good at camo or you've concealed your portable EMP generator in your janitors rolling bucket, they'll never see you.

  4. I think that some modern bullet proof armour is something along the lines of carbon fibres impregnated in some polymer. Like fibreglass.

The big issue would be its fibrous woven nature...it'd probably be good...just *very* expenisve. Imagine what the loom would have to be made of to withstand it...

What I'm wondering, is if you pulled it apart, would the 'mono-threads' be like monowire with their ability to cut stuff up? They needn't be for the armour...but if they were I'd be worried about what happened when you got a penetrating hit. Little monowire fibres all chopped up and tickling away at the wound site could be a worry.

It might stop bullets really well, but the damage/shock might go through because its meant to be so thin...hm.

Maybe an expensive outer coating on normal armour? erm...something to impregnate cyber-arm skin with...tent fabric for field hospitals in high-intensity combat sit's...a cloth that cuts the knife attacking it...

    Blah. Good idea anyway.

Tell us more about the aerogel...sounds - tasty.

    ;)

  5. man I love anime - particularly bgc2040.

The old series looks...scary. Huge pink hair. Hmm. Wouldn't stop me watching it tho...:)

I think anime works as the better medium for CP rather than film because you can draw cool stuff so much easier than having to build it...I find movies like Terminator and Demolition man terrifying because of the horrendous image they splatter CP with.

Someone asked why female cyborgs appeared so much in CP anime...I wonder, what if its some subconscious male desire that our future offspring are part technological and therefore more adapted to survival?

(At least, that would be the nice, rationalised explanation. (if this goes beyond 'moderate'...sorry...))

  6. HahahHAhAhA...

Akira is CP (i believe) because it has the big science V nature thing in a combative, plot heavy urban environment.

The whole raid on the big research facility is archetypal CP..."Hey I know! Lets sneak in as repair men and shoot the guards to bust out our super-special friend!"

Hee hee hee...but I love it. Its so cool. (I'm not bagging it...*too* much...)

Then theres the bike gang war...that would make an awesome CP campaign all on its own.

I bought GitS the other day - man its good. It gets my vote as more CP - cos its all pure CP, and doesn't mix it with psi.

There are enormous similarities between the two, though - new species of humans being generated in the new environment, the urban jungle - fusion of humanity with technology (Tetsuo's cyber arm thing?)...just like bgc2040, Evangelion...am I sensing a pattern?

  7. I understand but don't hugely like Akira - it gets too mystical. Which is ok, I just dig guns a whole lot more than becoming a demi-god.

But - the bike gang war - that is just the coolest thing this side of pluto - I'd love to run whole CP campaigns based solely around the idea of jousting from the back of a huge motorbike...my CP character is entirely based on that one scene where the biker with the pipe comes racing up, dragging the tip on the ground...sparks flying...

(drifts off into happyland, wishing he had an antique medieval pike and a huge black ducati...and someone to belt with it  ;)  )

  8. (This is what I created specifically for CP2020 rpg...)

Restaurants might have to diversify their services...safe shopfront or 'scraper tower space is going to be very expensive, so they'll need to get customers at all possible times...thus a lot of my restaurants are fast food/cafe's by day, restaurant in the evening then they clear up the tables and play dance music until the next day...

There's also the point that demand equals supply - CP universe people want safe places to meet, where they won't get a)shot or b)overheard.

I imagine a lot of places providing security booths, or private rooms to conduct negotiations in, without fear of setups.

Thus I make sure to specify where the rooms are in a restaurant...

Up market restaurants all have armed guards and cloakrooms to leave your gun in...

    Makes sense to ya'll? :D

  9. CP music...

    Definitely Fear Factory!

Obsolete has a little story running through all the songs, and its very CP - a human resistance movement V 'the machine' of government. There's this nice 'borged out track called smasher/devourer perfect for all the tinmen out there...goes something like "praise me in the name of war, I destroy both rich and poor...strength in time of suffering, man alone is a weakling..."

Then there's Digimortal, which has no coherent plot but some nice CPesque themes, if you're imaginative. Like full metal contact. Nice.

Industrial always did remind me of Chromers...

Orgy - She dreams in digital?

Bjork - all is full of love? Truly awesome clip...makes me drool.(Don't ask why)...or how about 'the modern things'? "all those modern things...It's their turn now..."

Then there's IDM. Intelligent Dance Music - electronic music with no particular beat - its all random and psycho. I actually thought it would sound heaps evil...but it doesn't. :(

Lotsa static and broken bits of beats - a soundscape of electronic disaster.

Look for an artist by the name Kid606...he's the best proponent I know of. If you know of others TELL ME TELL ME TELL ME!
