  1. While I'm doing the thank yous, I'd better thank Spike and Rory for doing the IC barmen thing......

.........cos in my opinion, LARP without alcohol is like a bloke without long hair.

Oh hang on. I need a better simile. A porn film without the moustaches? (M&J, you know what I mean!)

    ####, I'm obsessed............ wink.gif

  2. Oh, the thing I wanted to say but forgot.......

a HUGE thank you to the refs for all their hard work and effort. We really do appreciate it.

I think for the sake of realism, although my character isn't technically dead, I'm gonna stop playing her. I wasn't expecting her to last long anyway...........and I suppose if she's in a concentration camp or whatever I can alway have her escape of something later.........mind you, why would she bother going back to the NA? Anyway I'm already plotting something else.

Let's see if we can get some more players to write about the session..........maybe we can even persuade some of you table-top only types to come and join in our little game. It's cool, trust me. smile.gif

  3. Cyberjunk asked me to do a writeup of last Mirrorshades session (Session 5) so here goes.......

My dad very kindly gave me and Spudfairy a lift down to Nottingham on Sunday - after spending ages trying to navigate the #### one way system we finally found Jacey's (the session venue).

Jacey's has recently been refurbished and it looks pretty cool.........when we went in there were a few random people milling about getting ready. I said hi to the people i know, and introduced them to Spudfairy and all that.......then headed for the Ladies to put on my makeup.

In case you wondered, the makeup involved green paint all over the top half of my body (I have to get someone to help me do my back!!).

Everyone was in character by Time-in at 7pm. The game is set in a nightclub in New Rome City called the Nightmare Asylum - it's a pretty rough place where any type of guns are allowed, and you meet all sorts there.

The first thing we noticed is that a new security system had been installed, there were gun turrets all around the club which could pinpoint anyone who fired a weapon and subsequently waste them. This had the effect of stopping players from randomly shooting peole and made us concentrate more on actually role-playing, which i thought was cool.

It's almost impossible to say what actually went on during the session because so much of it was character interaction which i wasn't personally involved in, but a few things happened which everyone noticed.

There were some pitfights which went down really well........both fistfighting and armed combat with latex LARP weapons. Of course, in chartacter bets were placed, and certain people were paid to lose, and so on.....i really enjoyed this because i'm a big fan of fantasy LARP and swordfights kick ass.

Right near the end of the session a French terrorist group (NPC's) broke in and started on the police..... the terrorists were campaigning for Mutant Rights. Then the military made their entrance and shot up the terrorists - and started to arrest mutants for deportation. I decided that this would be a good time for my obviously mutant character to make a hasty exit so I legged it across the room and out of the door, rapidly followed by army blokes shouting "Stop that green woman!!". Needless to say i got caught, and deported to New Paris. It was really exciting and fun and i got handcuffed and dragged across the room which was a great experience wink.gif .

All in all it was a great session, the best MS session ever, even though i've lost my character, it was so much fun that i don't mind at all. In fact when Time-out was called i went around saying "I've been deported!!!!!!!" in a very happy voice.

But my mind's gone blank now. I'll add some more later if anyone's interested.

  4. Yep.....I can turn green......i harness the magic power of Snazaroo.

I'm looking forward to next sesh........it's tomorrow!!!!

    yay!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Monster, there's one every month.

It's the first Sunday of the month, I'm not sure what date that is......

......but www.mirrorshades.co.uk should be able to help you. And you might just find some pics of me too, if you check out the "Who's Who" section.

    smile.gif

  6. Don't get me wrong Chris, I was not dissing your system in any way.....

..........I really like it. And as you may have guessed, I think player-led plot kicks ass. Yay!! Mutant rights!! smile.gif

Glad you enjoyed yourself the other week, I like having people round, it makes me look like I have friends............

  7. I also want to pick up on something else Chris said. Advertising is a very good thing, but don't restrict yourself to advertising in your city. After all I travel 25 miles to go to Mirrorshades in Nottingham every month, and many other players travel too. I believe we have one player travelling from Scotland, one from Wales, several from Chesterfield and others from other places which I have forgotten about........#### memory block.

  8. Yeah T RO, I agree with you too. Tabletop playing is great, and in some ways superior to LARP. In answer to your question about character creation, I'd like to say that I prefer not to restrict myself to a certain type of character. On numerous occasions I have thought up great character concepts, then had to discard them because they wouldn't have fit in with the group. Which to be quite honest, sucked. Either that or think up some lame reason as to why the character would be there.

To quote an actual example, I ran a Mage : Sorcerer's Crusade game once, I used a pagan woman NPC seeking revenge for the death of her family. Very bad tempered and irritable (the constant PMT type), wanted to be in control of everything, very focussed and direct. One of the player characters was forever diverting, very easily distracted, forgetful, way too inclined to stop and smell the roses. He irritated her no end, she shouted at him, he got bored and left. So that was it, character gen time again for the player, which was a shame because it was a very good character, well thought out background, etc. I couldn't retire the NPC because she was integral to the entire plot........if we had been LARPing we would have just shouted, then gone away and talked to someone else. Not a problem, both characters still intact and active.

I think another reason I like LARP is that when you're having a bad day/feeling tired or whatever (which happens to me quite often as I have fibromyalgia), you can just sit back and watch the plot pass you by if you want to. Of course, if you want plot it's available, but you can still be a valid experience point gaining roleplayer by just sitting on your arse and talking to people. That technique just doesn't work with tabletop games because if the players aren't actively roleplaying and putting some effort in, the game stops.

Help. I've just realised that when Chris reads my last post concerning my plot-dodging he's gonna throw some major heavy-duty unavoidable plot at me..........shit. Why did I choose to play a mutant..............?

  9. Hi Virgil!! I'm here.

I agree completely with everything Virgil said. But I just want to add my own opinion about plot.

It is possible to LARP without plot........good characters create their own. I mean I've quite happily avoided almost every single plot that came my way in my entire four year LARP career...........I like to do my own thing. Not that I'm dissing Virgil's plot, it's just that my characters try to keep out of anything that might kill them. And the best plots are the ones driven by characters, not refs.

The main reason why I like LARP is because you can do whatever the #### you want. I've found with most table top games I feel like my character has to get along with the other characters, simply because we play as a group. I mean if you kill a group member then piss off the GM usually says "Right. Here's the character gen rules, new character please." Basically in an LARP game you can make your own decisions and don't have to worry about group dynamics, or bad dice rolls, or having to achieve some "mission" that the GM decides is important. I think what I'm trying to say is that it's YOUR character, and your decisions, and I like that freedom.

Whew!! I talk too much. Did any of that make sense?

  10. 7th pawn, that's what i meant. I didn't want to confuse you all with the terminology (or reveal too much of my plan).

Hey, maybe we should join forces to work towards world domination.......World Government, or something. NE1 up for it?

  11. Don't worry Thorn.....I have no intention of cloning myself. I mean why would I want an army of my intellectual equals? That would be no fun. No, I intend to clone different individuals for different tasks, making sure of course that I am their superior in every way.

It shouldn't be too hard to find test subjects, given the criteria.....
