    Dont flame me please :p

    Bwahaha.  Eat napalm, fanboy...   :flame:

My word, I have always wanted an excuse to use that emoticon.

    But seriously.

This site is sort of about a cyberpunk tabletop RPG, but without the figures (mostly).  The GM describes the world and it's contents/people/special effects, and the players describe their character's actions and provide suitably melodramatic dialogue.

The source setting is a sort of 80's big hair shiney chrome flashy trenchcoats enormous shoulder pads cyberpunk era.  Over time it's modernised slightly with extra source material (less hair metal, more substance).  Currently there isn't much new material about since the chaps that produce the game do it more as a hobby.  Despite this it's managed to attract an impressive fanbase and, aha, diverse followers.

This forum is populated with assorted gun nuts, losers, ex-mil sages, jokers, fanboys/girls, wise guys, one hormonally overcharged puppy-boi and some other Extraordinary Ladies and Gentlemen.

It's all good, all the time.

  2. Good report.

The news isn't totally myoptically focused on the bad, however.  Most of the recent extended reports I have seen on Iraq have more often than not finished with an upbeat focus on things like the utilities being more efficient than under the regieme, aid still getting to where it needs to be (occasionally) and what appear to be the only 5 remaining hospitable Iraqis hifiving coalition troops and grinning ear-to-ear.

I'd say that the hostilities aren't over until both the Americans and the Iraqi sit into a table, sign a peace treaty and then the american forces pack their bags and head home.

There's the rub.  The only thing resembling a government in Iraq is that thing that Bremer set up.

On the plus side, the US government could come up with a peace treaty with the provisional government that it had set up.

That would be the very essence of modern geopolitics.

    Umm...please define "increasing hostility".

The words "Attacks on coalition troops have intensified in the past week, reaching an average of more than 30 a day," tipped me off.  That and a noticable increase in the co-ordination and organisation of the opposition could also qualify according to more news reports I can cite if you really are feeling that anal.

Also with the aid groups sort of taking off most of the workforce it's hard to stabalize the place.  More international support is needed, I would even not care too much if local area governments lent quite a bit more of a hand in rebuilding than the US government wants.

The two seem inextricably linked.  Perhaps aid groups will find more confidence with extra external backing?

  5. Fifteen dead and 21 wounded, according to a BBCi report.  138 US troops have been killed since President Bush declared an end to open hostilities six months ago.

Is it time to pull out the troops in the face of increasing hostility from both opposing forces and the locals, or should the job be seen through to the end?  Is it possible for coalition troops to "finish the job" (whatever one takes that to mean) without external assistance?

Well,  wearing a Batman costume was really a hoot.  I don't think I want to make a habit of wearing tight fitting rubber garments though :p

Ouch.  Sounds like you might be the forum's first hunchgroin unless you take it easy.

  7. Aye.  Linux armchair activists across the planet - UNITE!

Now, if you will excuse me I have to go and sneer at some 'windoze' users.

P.S.  Did you see my cunning pun on the words 'windows' and 'doze'?  BWAHAHAHAHA!  So FUNNY!  And it's not been done by a thousand other pasty linux enthusiasts either!  Oh, really I slay me...

    HOW RARE!

+Cyberpuppy raps Lady Grey's torso and upper thighs in red bondage tape then puts a red hooded cloak on her." Very tasty" puppy say as he puts on the song "Little Red Rideing Hood.".+

    Please stop.

  9. If computer technology reaches the point where there is little or no difference between primary volatile and secondary disk storage With a similar convergence of processor technology one might see the emergence of homogenous units of computing.

Instead of having discrete CPU, RAM and HDD one would end up with lots of little 'building blocks' that act as CPU/RAM/HDD in one element.  If one needed more storage, more processing horsepower or active memory one could just plug in a few more modules.  This could work on both a personal/mobile computing scale and for the big iron of 2020.  In fact I am pretty certain theReg had an article on an existing real world implementation of this sort of thing a few months back.

Perhaps you would end up with virtual components inside the system - a distributed cluster of virtual processors, volatile memory spaces optimised for fast access and a virtual repository for longer term storage.  Another advantage of this system is the potential for massive redundancy.

The death of the archaic Von Neumman architecture?  I can but dream.

Now I'm curious as to what you guys think the good ol' overbearing, opinionated w*nker would best classified as.  I fully assert and agree with the fact that self-labelling is often far from correct so I'll leave this in your more than capable hands.

    Fire at will!

You have my profound thanks for upsetting the template by introducing a degree of wit, humor, and intelligence into your discourse.

And love.  I bring you peace and love.

It's nice to see that the logic sniper exists in one form or another.

I contacted the author with two archetypes I have seen in action here and elsewhere.  The chap seemed quite impressed, so I am hopeful at their chances of making it into the new version.

See if you can spot them if they make it through the selection process.

  12. theRegister linked to an interesting article (almost) parodying the types of Flame Warrior loose on the Internet.

I am sure most of you will not be surprised to see some familiar faces and old friends.  I suspect I may have already been typecast  despite the fact I am attracting at least one groupie/pseudostalker around here.  Even so, I would plead for restraint against making "i am teh BIG DOG flaem warrior!!1" posts with no associated justification, wit or other forethought because these make very boring posts.

  13. There is an informal precedent: C-SWAT is alluded to contain borderline cyberpsychos.  Whether or not one thinks this is a good idea is down to the individual roleplayer.

Dramatically, PenalCorps sound like a good if not original idea.  The suspention of disbelief problem is that an organisation's field agents are valuable assets not just because they have the right potential psychological and physiological makeup, but because of the investment in training.

Taking convicted felons and expending enough resources on them to train and induct them to become useful assets might be considered a waste of resources compared to investing in candidates acquired by more traditional and proven recruiting methods.

And bear in mind that it will be difficult to not live the cliche when running a game involving these themes.

  14. As you can see, Lucifuge, there is already a diversity of opinion.  Something that may help shape your character is to think of some of your favourite gunslingers, lone wolf types, and other relatively solitary folks skilled in combat from films, books and television.

Consider why your character lives the way they do, and what their eventual goal is.  Sometimes it can be something quite complex, like finding a certain chap and taking down their empire; or something simple like respite.

Oh, that is a truly awful pun.  I think I'd almost rather see the babyspeak emotes.

Mr Poochi, welcome back   We've missed you.

I was trying to decide to run away from these people are stay for a bit longer to get much needed money whiole not incriminating myself in any illegal acts that would put my in jail and ruin all future hopes of working in the accounting field again.

It might be worth looking up your county/state's whistle blowing laws.  Even if you don't plan to expose them it may help you discern your rights and level of protection from prosecution or whatever other nasty treats might be in store.

    Well, someone sounds bitter.

A lesson learned the hard way is rarely a sweet treat.

I would rather issue a plea for balance.  Having a significant other can be most rewarding as long one can maintain parity between the other elements of their life.

I have come to find that compartmentalisation is a wonderful thing, as is a partner that can understand and accept without rancour their partner's requirement for parts of his or her life which do not involve their relationship.

  18. I don't know about 'surreal'.  I think it's still a toss up between an attempt at a racist observation, the product of a poor grip on colloquial English, or the result of brain damage.

Of course possibilities one and three are sometimes hard to tell apart.

That was entertaining, although some words struck too close to home to really make me laugh.

Whoa.  Maybe you are taking things too seriously.  I remember having been at least two of those things he ranted about.

I have to congratulate you, Mr. Soldier.  That is by far one of the funnier sites I have seen all day.  Nuts To You is also hilarious.
