  1. The thing about FID micromissles is that the RTG rules, well, suck.  FID takes the proveberial Sow's Ear and makes a silk purse.

When I first Saw the Micromissle in the Chromebook 2(?) I though Ok, this is stupid.  Then I saw the FID rules.  Now Micromissles have some use.

I wonder if the Monowire slasher round can be adapted for use as a micromissle?  Add a cephalic targeting system and we have an excelent assination tool.  The thing flies for the neck and cuts the head off.  Good for when its not just enogh to kill the Choo-head, but when others need to learn from it.  I.E.  Killing members of Malestrom in relaliation or to teach the Insane Clowns to behave.  I think killing a clown with one and broadcasting the footage real time to several billboards in NC would apeal to their sense of humor.  Of Cource for the Inquision, this would not work, since they are fanatical, therefor an ebola-type virus might get the message through.

  2. I tend to look down on sites that are only archival material.  However, if the origional site went down, and credit is given where credit is due and the owner does not object (if unreachable) or idealy gives explicit permission, it should be keep up.

However If I finaly get my site up and I see a cobweb site that I am afraid will go down I will make a local copy on disk.  If it goes down, I will post the materail giving credit.  If the owner objects, I will take it down.  But the point of any site I put up will be to showcase my material.

But, Hound, If you are wondering if we would flog you to death with a wet noodle if you post some of Mockery's material, the answer is no, provided that you keep the good stuff comming.

  3. Just an idea, but what about totaly redooing the netruning system since its has this wonderfull circa 1981 pacman feel?  I know that on other sites there are efforts to fix the rules, here is mine.

    1.  IG is for the toursits.  Real hackers use shell interfaces with plugs.

    2.  A net site's security is layered like an onion.  First there are the firewalls to protect the public areas with minimal security.  Then some heavier stuff to protect the ordering/net-comerce section/etc.  Some heaver stuff to protect the network, eventualy leading to the good R&D, black opps, and real dirt.  Think of a flowchart.

    3.  Most tasks should be resolvalbe fast and combat should be very rare and lethal.  Most Black-ICS (lethal software) is very rare, most sysadmins call out MaxTac or equivient to deal with the perp.

    4.  Most tools vary from what script kiddies use up to super secret corporate espionage tools.  Some are freely availiable others must be stolen or written.

    5.  The net must perminate all parts of life.  It needs to be relitvely secure and sort of anomonous (for those who know what they are doing).

Is this a good start?  Are there any other concepts/ideas/new ways of perseveing the net?

Should we rewrite it online now or just wait for CP3.0?

  4. THe 25mm monowire slasher round is pure evil.  I looked at Blackhand's and your site Hound, but Could not find the stats.  Is it from Firestrom?  Or use a thermobaric round for use against targets in confined spaces.

Also in the News:  I definately think that keeping the 13LV where it is is good and up the damage for everything else to keep it balanced.

And a new use for Micromissles:  Use for an assination by airstrike.  Load 3 or 5 into a model rocket with some body/face reconignition software and fire it off.  The Micromissles seperate and assuming that the target is located he/she/it will meet a very messy end.  Or Fire from a RC aircraft tricked out with full telemetry.

Either way very messy and lethal.

  5. The Idea with ETE is that the chemsniffers would be less likely to detect it when entering a builting.  I guess that a good cleaning would have the same effect.

As for a 13mm LV weapon take a look at this:

    Malorian 1296.  PIST +1 J R 13mmLV 1 8 VR 40M 600eb.

This pistol locates the magazine infront of the pistol grip to keep the grip eurogronomic.  A scilencer is availiable for it (250eb, Dif20 to hear) and a detachable sholder stock (RIF+1, aimed shot +1, can mount optics), 175eb.  This gun has a street rep of being a metalgear poper.  Some gangs call then Panser Cookers for their ability to kill metal gear wearing riot poliece.

I defanately like the idea of scilencing the FN5/7.

  6. The basic plot is that McNihil is called into investigate the death of a corp exec working for one of the largest, most infuential corp.  He is to find the man's still living prowler.  He knows its a trap but needs to show he is still good.  -- Sumerised from the book's back cover.

Unfortunately much of what happens in the book is not explained untill the end, making folowing it a little dificult.

From there the story detours before comming back to target.  Very cool view of corporate media, IP, and consumer debit.

  7. The P-90 certanly has the cool factor going for it, however, I have heard in discussion (somewhere) that droping a loaded magazine will misaling the rounds.

As for other weapons, I would add a accurage silenced ETE .22 pistol.  accurate and silent.  Just the thing for dealign with a troublesome corpsleaze in a meeting in his firm's office tower.  Or get it built of radar-invisible plastics and its an excelent close in assination weapon.

I agree that most weapons will be 10mm caseless or similar.

I disagree with the availiblilty of certan rounds and not others.  Today the military emphasis seems to be on small high velocity rounds that can pearce body armor and then fragment and tumble in the target as opposed to blowing a large hole in it.

For instance the 12mm seems to be for stupid american consumers who think that big hole=incapacation, but fail to take into account body armor which favors small high velocity rounds.

Of cource for everyday use by a cyberpunk, get a wondernine or similar.  For real metal gear poping action, I think the 13mmLV has potential, especialy since I'd bet a compent gunsmith could set up a silenced PDW sized weapon.

As for long arms, I would guess that thanks to the colapse, boosters (and anyone else who wants one) can get a M16, AK47, or similar.  Making gang wars messy fast.  Expecialy with the ease of manufacturing, I would think that the poliece, LEiv, etc have a depressingly difficult time shutting down illegal arms manufactures.

  8. Please don't flame, but I just funished reading Noir.  I think it has enought of what made Nuromancer sexy (figurateively) but it takes the late 90s and turns up the volume.

Its basic plot is centered around the disapearence of an employee's 'soul' or continousness into a VR like world that overlaps with the materal world.  From there the story gets weirder.  There are exelecent examples of sleaseball corporates, urban and social decay, and some intresting twists, like stealing IP = death penality.

I will spare everyone a plot summary.

Should it be concidered cannon?  Should it be concidered required reading for any buding CP2020 player?

  9. Also, concider the effect of the ambulance chasing lawyers.  In a bad neiborhood two cops get into a shootout with some boosters.  Some civilians get killed and injured.  At this point nothing happens, unless some lawyer wants to fatten his wallet and polish his public immage.  And takes the case, pocketing 20% (or more!) of the multi-million dollar setelment.

  10. Shamelessly stolen from http://www.acc.umu.se/~corps/murphy.html

    In

Cyberpunk 2020, an average person will ALWAYS survive a point blank shot from a 9mm pistol in the chest. A similar shot in the arm will kill them.

this by 2 due to the average Body Type, that's 11 points, a critical wound. Because the wound deterioation rules are missing from CP2020,

that wound does not increase to mortal, ever. On the other hand, if you take 8 or more points of damage to a limb, you die straight out.

  11. That 50Keb van is armored to SP20, has a cell phone and autopilot.  Can you say corporate toy?

But the NAA Roadcar costs 5500 eb and is properly equiped for the unwashed masses:  Just a crash controll system and a civ nav system.

One thing that alwasy amazes me is that vehicles can be SP 0 for cars, etc.  Now I take my UZI and blow a clip into the Roadcar.  Chances are I will kill the ocupants and wreck it.  There is somthing wrong here.

I propose stating that all vehicles like cars, have 1/5th of body as a sort of intrinsic armor unless, explicitly armor plated.

    Any Ideas?

  12. If I had to get a limb replaced with cybernetics, it would be covered by realskin (there's no point advertising).

Of cource the other thing that is realy cool is the nanoteck cyberaudio upgrade with level damper and enhanced hearing or cyberoptics with infotrometry, lolight and flare compensation.

The problem I see with Cyberlimbs is that they are probibly very high matience.  Like needing to be oiled, inspected, and adjusted regulary.

  13. I seemed to get the impression that some sort of plastic or nylon sabot would be aproperate since it is so much softer than the barrel.

As for the FN 5.7, isn't it a little light for dealing with anything wearing more than SP20? limiting military use.  But certanly somthing along those lines would be good.

Its still not an assault rifle round, however.

  14. I modified the formula (basicaly turned it down).

    Lets assume a 4.8 gram projectile at 1750 m/s

    The formula is SquareRoot((wt*vel)/20).

Then devide by 3.5 to get the number of dice.

So that works out to being a 6D6-1 for the 5mm round.

The 9mm round would do 4D6 damage if it weights 8 grams and is fired at 500m/s.

Here is an example of such a weapon:

    Malorian 8917: Rif +3 U L (7+ Bod)  5mm(6D6+3 SAP [6D6 for recoil purpouses]), 9mm(4D6) 1/3/20 30 500m (5mm) 175m(9mm) VR 890 eb.

This is a bulpuped assault rifle that fires a polymer cased 5mm saboted hypersonic projectile or a unsaboted 9mm bullet.  When firing the 5mm saboted round, long range is 550m and extreeme range is 600m.  The saboted round is 1/2soft armor, full damage or 3/4hard armor, full damage.

    Is this about right?

  15. Found some stuff on a circa 2030 assault rifle carterage.  Intresting idea.  http://www.guns.connect.fi/gow/2030.html

Its a 9mm cartridge with a sub caliber 5mm penitrator.

    In cp2020 terms its would do about 7D6 (5.2g @ 1750m/s)

    The 9mm version would do about 4d6+2 (8g @ 425m/s)

    Does this look intresting?

I also did the math for the the Styer ACR (a expermental assault rifle that looks real cool) would do only about 3D6+1, with soft armors basicaly ignored and hard armors at 1.5x.  Somthing tells me that Styer needs a heavier projectile...  1gram @ 1875 simply does not do much.

  16. Persionaly, I like the realy unovious stuff.  Like Nasal Filters (keep Night City's Smog out), Mucle and Bone lace (easier than pumping iron at the gym), implanted, chip-baised organizer.  That sort of stuff.

Only boosters get a perfectly good arm replaced with a metal one.  And only the ones who are too wimpy to go out and get it shot off first when doing a drive by on the Inquisition.  Massive quantity of metal parts in a booster's body means "I'm a bad a@@ and can prove it to you."

Each replacement should have a story.

  17. I like that idea.  A monthly poliece auction...  Covers ceased goods, legal but smugled drugs (namely from India, they simply don't have the proper tax stamp), weapons (converted to semi-auto, etc), legal cyberwear seased in a bust.

Several days before the auction the illegal stuff is shiped to a scrap yard and striped for (legal parts) then the rest is melted down.

A realy cool hiest could be built around the ceased goods warehouse.

  18. Another option for a full auto ECE (electro-chemical enhancement) machinegun would be to stick a massive water jacket on the barrel to asorb the heat and use some advanced fuel cell/battery to supply the power.  Figure a 50-200% increase in the ECE mod's cost, 2x weight (to account for the water jacket) and ROF would be in the 200-350 rpm (ROF 10-17).  Realisticaly the weight would be in the 30 kilo range.

Of cource, that's before adding the tripod/bipod.

My sugestion as opposed to ETEing a 7.62N machinegun, just get one in 8.6Laupa (9D6+1 damage).

  19. I like the new Forum, Just to make reading easier, could you increase the contrast between background and text?

Also, I cannot seem to post useing Opera 5.02.  (I know its an uncommon browser, but I like it better than Internet Exploiter or NetSlouth.)
