I agree with Pockets.

a) Strip the universe, keep the rules

Rules are mostly better than the old one, and need way less tweaking. Universe on the other hand feels too impossible to happen in real life. 2020 somehow felt like an extension to what we have today (all the real problems and threats multiplied, and so on).
