  1. If I've counted correctly, this will be my 119th posting. I'm quite proud of my achievement, given that I only get chance to visit the site very occaisionally.

Mind you, it'd help if I had anything interesting to submit! So, by your leave, I'll return to my dank corner and keep my own counsel 'til something of note occurs...

  2. I wonder who picked July 31st? And why? And an odd thing to celebrate. And which one - the male or the female?

It sounds a bit like Christmas to me - a marketing gimmick. Every day should be NOD (and probably is).

I'll go back into the cupboard now...

  3. I liked the film - Farenheit 451 meets Ninety-Eighty-Four. The action is a little on the silly side, but it's heart's in the right place. smile.gif

I saw one review that criticised the film for 'wooden acting', but that's probably what you'd expect if everyone is supposed to be supressing their emotions. huh.gif

  4. I s'pose that if I keep posting spurious messages I might break 20 sometime this year!

    So, how about something semi-appropriate:

"Every instant of time is a pinprick of eternity.

All things are petty, easily changed, vanishing away."

    Marcus Aurelius

    See you on the flipside...

  5. "Cyberpunk" is a nebulous genre - Mondo referred to it as being 'post-modern'. I recently came across a review of John Brunner's "Stand on Zanzibar" that considered it to be early cyberpunk. The story deals with existing issues that have a detrimental effect on society - massive overcrowding of cities, lack of resources, etcetera.

So perhaps anything which looks at the extreme changes in near future society could be considered cyberpunk. The rapid expansion of net use is having an effect today, though I don't consider it a cornerstone of the 'punk zeitgeist. Technology may provide fulcrums to assist change, but it's the people and their attitudes which count.
