  1. If you guys really wanna do the Deathrace 2000 thing, take a look at some of the sourse material for Carwars.  What you are describing is done on almost a daily basis in the world of Carwars, and you may even decide to use the carwars rules with some modifications  cause they are way cool.  Who's ready to go out and rent the Road Warrior? :flame:

F#CKED UP? unhappy? what gave you that idea? some of us just lead rather differant lives that you and we realy enjoy them.

I was just commenting on the general nature of the posts on the board.  Most of the posts seemed unhappy to me, as opposed to the happy ones.  Also, please note I said "people" not "you people".  I consider myself a person, so I am also f'ed up.  Sometimes I am just amazed at people's capacity to suffer without doing something, but I'm getting a little off thread.

    ..ahem

I find visual stimulation just begins to get the juices flowing, so to speak.  Seeing a beautiful women, and erotic picture can get me in the mood for a little personal time, or one of those one night stands we were talking about before.  If I'm with someone else, thats the stimulation I use.  If I'm alone, I generally go to the erotic stories.

  3. Wow!  I just plodded my way through this thread.  God, people are so f'ed up.  So many people are unhappy, it reminds me of some bit of Buddhist philosophy I picked up in Comparative Religions in college.  Something to the effect of:  All life is suffering.  Once we acknowledge and except this fact, life is no longer suffering, because everything is as it should be.  I was taking notes during that entire thing, and I think I'm going to go ask that lovely lady at work if she'd like to go have some dinner some time.  Later. :knife:

There are lots of things that do count as separate actions that should be able to be performed together, with penalties as listed in the rules. For example, moving while firing. I think limiting actual *combat* (firing weapons, punching, kicking, dodging, whatever) actions as detailed above is a great idea, but use the penalties when taking other actions into account. This way reasonable actions can be performed without allowing low rate thugs from throwing Jet Li style combinations.

You've got a point.  I'll probably allow limited movement, and minor things like reloading, etc. to take place in addition to an attack action, much like the system put forward in (dare I mention it here?  You guys can only kick me out once!! :p )D&D 3rd edition.  I really like the way they work the actions in that system.  I don't think, though, that I will let everyone take one action and then allow the second actions to go.  With the -20 penalty to their initiative, it should work out that way anyway, unless someone gets a really good roll, or a really crappy one.

That is why I like the availability/street-index system in Shadowrun. It lets characters get hold of the basic stuff easily and quite cheaply, but there is a rapidly escalating probability curve to climb in order to get anything more exotic than a basic assault rifle, and I also like the fact that a definite distinction is made between the 'legal' price for an item and the black market price.

I haven't played much Shadowrun, but I was under the impression that availability/street-index rules didn't apply to character creation.  So beginning characters could still start with much stuff.  It's still really up to the GM to make the starting PC's don't get out of control.

  6. I just finally read Snow Crash, and then listened to Diamond Age (both by Neal Stephenson).  Of course, Diamond Age was abriged (yuck) but it beats taking a long trip listening to the local radio stations.  I thought Snow Crash was great, very entertaining, and a very good read.  The Diamond Age tape kept my attention as well.  I would recommend both of these books to people.  Has anyone else read them, what did you all think?

  7. Your right, killing them is way too easy.  I'm running a modified system (I just can't use any system without futzing with it) that includes backgrounds similiar to the ones in vampire.  Also, merits and flaws.  They both loaded up on so many flaws, hunteds, wanted, enemies, etc. that I can make there lives hell, and I plan to.

    :p

  8. I think for my new campaign, I will kind of bring over the rules from Shadowrun regarding multiple actions, and otherwise make them very difficult.  I'm thinking if you get higher than a 20 on your initiative roll, you get a second action, the first at your initiative, and the second at your init -20, etc.  This will give solos more of an edge in combat, and gives a more firm view.  Other than that I'll be very strict about only taking 1 real action per round.

  9. I would definately limit the starting money.  I just made that mistake in the campaign I was starting up, I didn't set enough guidlines, and I have PC's now that both started with as much money and cyberware as they can get their hands on.  This eliminates a whole section of the world that is dangerous to them, and doesn't really give them the whole Cyberpunk feel.  Maybe I'll just kill their characters.  Its the Cyberpunk way.

  10. I've played in a couple Car Wars campaigns that involved role-playing, very cool.  There is a, IMO, very cool movie out there starring Rutger Hauer called the Blood the Heroes.  This involves a sport I was thinking of putting into the campaign I'm starting.  I don't think the PC's will ever play, but I'm thinking of a storyline involving a star trying to get away from his sponsers.

  11. Hey, somebody help me out.  I'm starting a new 'punk campaign, and I want to use the lifestyle maintenance rule I saw somewhere, but I cant find them.  You know the ones I'm talking about, you spend x Euro each month, and you have a certain lifestyle:  what kind of food you eat, where you live, etc, etc.  Anybody know where to find it?
