1. You gotta watch it in Japanese with subtitles dude. The way they altered it and the voices they chose for the English version dumb it down to almost DBZ levels of childishness.

thanks but no thanks. i can't stand anything so slow moving. reminds me of slam dunk, another slow one which i hate.

Having seen most episodes of DBZ (long story why, short version: didn't have anything to do Saturdays at a certain time in the afternoon for many years) most shows move blazingly fast to me. Even Inuyasha.

Tama kinda looks like Vash to me. But that might just be me. smile.gif And it's not a bad thing, Vash is one of my heroes.

On two slightly related side notes, 1) Playing with a camera is fun, and 2) Don't mess with SSJ Spyder.

2. The transition from alley to park was a little sudden. I assume the alley was close to the park and that you had all left the van behind to enter the park. Unless Zippo is still on a building overlooking the van. Does the building she is on (if she's on a building) overlook the park as well? A small park? No wait, it's supposed to be a largish park, isn't it?

87560

It's... Shinjuku Park.

Image Google Shinjuku Park.

Actually, this one ought to give you some idea. Image Link It'd be better if I could find one overlooking the park from the tower. Apparantly no one ever thinks to take sweet pictures like that.

Yes, it's quite large.

3. Kerwing, just wondering, I'm assuming you mean 'Who are they?'... 'How are they?' implies a former knowledge of who they are... And doesn't really track, so I'll play it like that's what you said. Kinda busy right now, though...

4. I seem to have created a bit of a fad. Now, I don't want you to get all bent out of shape drawing our characters and ditch the game or anything. Just, like, if you have some spare time, you know. I'll put the desc up here anyway, so people can get an idea of what everyone looks like.

Spyder Greywolf

Dark, short hair laying forward, a bit unkempt, but not dirty or sloppy. Tan skin, brown eyes. Not sure it matters to your drawing style, but he tends toward more Japanese physical features, aside from his skin tone. He's not exceptionally tall, maybe around 5' 11". He's close to twenty-ish.

He tends toward the rather lean and wiry look, but he's not scrawny, he's got some muscle tone. He's just not a bruiser, by any means.

At the moment, Spyder's wearing a slightly oversized black trenchcoat over a black t-shirt, slightly tattered blue jeans (baggy cut), and leather boots. He's carrying Mel, his laptop (Black and slightly scuffed) in one of his arms. His overall demeanor is rather a bit lazy, but he'll suddenly rush into action with little warning. Think highly disciplined slack, and yes, I realize that's an oxymoron smile.gif.

I don't know if you want to include weapons in your drawing or not (your call, really), he wears a Bowie knife in the trenchcoat and carries throwing knifes, some makeshift, others expertly machined. All perfectly balanced.

One more thing. He's not a prettyboy, but he's kinda young looking (like me. I'm going to get carded till I'm forty-seven.)

5. I've been working on this for awhile.  I think my colouring still needs work... but...Take a look!

That's what Magical Girl Zippo looks like in normal form.

... That's all.  Go about your business.

~Zippo

86782

Wow...

That's just awesome. Seriously, I like a lot.

If you find yourself with more free time, would you consider doing some of other characters? smile.gif I find my own skills are always sadly lacking compared to what I'm trying to do.

6. On an entirely unrelated side note, Cranston reminds me of my villain character Raynier in the old Zombie RP. Just thought I'd throw that out there
How so? I was not around during the Zombie kidnap Fred thing and I've not the time to go through 60 webpages.

86696

Raynier's a twelve-gauge-combat-shotgun-wielding black-trenchcoat-and-Ray-Bans-wearing speed-bike-riding rocket-shoe-jumping FPS-type badass. What makes him interesting is his agenda, he's a not only a physical manifestation of my hero character's dark repressed side, he actually TOOK HIS SKILLS AWAY from Spyder when he manifested. It's sort of like the original person fractured in two and each half went out with their own agenda. Raynier was the only villain actually trying to kill Fred. Spyder was trying to stop him by any means necessary. It was, for some reason, massively tiring to play two characters constantly at odds with each other, however. I can't remember if I even lasted through the end of the Zombie RP.

I tend to use the same names for very different characters in different games, so if you ever go back and read that, my 'Hero' character is named Spyder as well, however, you'll notice that Back to Basics' Spyder Greywolf is NOT a heavy metal berserker that wields a Gamecube and a fractured length of PVC pipe. I tend to use a sort of mental 'templates' for all of them though. If we continue to run RPs here you may see me use the name Raynier again. More likely, however, you'll see one Kerian Axxis, who is my 'standard' sci-fi/cyberpunk tech-savvy character. Spyder in Back to Basics is 'technically' Kerian, just like WhiteKnight is really a lot like Bo from the old Post War Boom campaign. Raynier is a name I often use for more of a standard (kinda) 'samurai' character, but I always tend to give my character background that may or may not come up in the course of the game. I will not always reveal these things right away, for instance, Spyder in Back to Basics has a younger sister, around nine years old, currently staying with a 'friend'.

I might at some point after this campaign bust out a more physically threatening character. Or a girl ph34r.gif or... both. I have this one character... and her warhammer, Bob... smile.gif

Roleplaying is teh fun laugh.gif I talk too much about it though.

On a totally random and aside note, I know WK's real name too smile.gif

7. I was wondering where those had gotten off to. Thought they'd already been posted in here before now. Guess not though. Silly me. tongue.gif

86670

Yeah. With all due respect to (pre-CZ) Largo, Ph34r m4 l4z1n355.

Also, I'm a little disappointed. No new character wants to play a Sony brand CyberZombie? laugh.gif

8. A lot of what you said was useful, at the very least in fleshing out where the boundaries were, and in some cases, actually helping me decide where the line is of power versus fun.

Okay, I think the rules there are perfect, or at least, as comprehensive as I can think of at the moment. If anything else needs be addressed, I'll post it up under this.

Also, you brought back the Scotty avatar. That's a bonus to my day.
Ach, I was tryin' to remember whozit was that was a big fan of the Scotty avatar... smile.gif
9. As I've gotten two requests for it, I'll repost the Rules from the wiki Discussion board here.

First, Rules (mostly courtesies) off the wiki Fun House:

1.Try not to NPC other people. A (very) little NPC'd action or dialogue is okay, as long as it's in-character and not anything major. When in doubt, try PM'ing the target.

2.Everyone is around 21 in here, in other words act like adults

3.No whining if whatever brilliant bit of RP you just did gets criticized by someone. See rule #2

4.No whining WHEN you criticize someone ELSE's brilliant piece of RP, see rule #2

5.Potentially touchy spot, since we're all going to be 21 and adults here then the potential exist for ADULT RP! If you do this keep all four previous rules in mind at all time and put an ADULT warning on that section. Better yet, make a separate page and link it (this italicized portion doesn't really apply to Back to Basics, it's to be considered Adult, in the same manner a Rated R movie is considered adult. As far as sexual situations go, as long as it doesn't totally overwhelm the massively gratuitous violence (and it's IN CHARACTER, please), I say go for it.)

Don't expect anything you do to be immune from OOC C&C, even if it is on a separate page. Also, no freaking out please. If someone wants to RP getting drugged and passing out then being molested by another character you can C&C if you want. I don't think I need to add any more to this. There are limits that must not be exceeded in [MT's] Story Discussions, even in the She Comes thread. Those won't apply so much here.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

What follows is a compilation of stuff from the READ THIS BEFORE POSTING topic on the wiki and other pertinent info from the game discussion topics.

--------------------------------

Right, this is Back to Basics, a gritty, post-semi-apocalyptic cyberpunk roleplay. It's back to basics because the emphasis is going to be on the dark gothic cyberpunk Tokyo. Think Gotham City meets Megatokyo.

I'm putting the Adult tag on the RP because people don't play nice in this Tokyo. Now, that being said...

Play nice.

Don't get me wrong, I expect violence, sex, drugs, profanity, death, CZ resurrection, pheromonal manipulation, etc. But, first off, Back to Basics not be Grand Theft Auto: Megatokyo. Don't do something just BECAUSE it's evil. Stay true to your character, whether it be a Sega Black Ops puppet, a rogue EDS, or a tech-savvy hacker living in a cardboard box.

Second, consider the no-NPC rule to be one of the Ten Commandments when it comes to sexual situations. Believe me, neither I nor WhiteKnight wants to hear any complaints about how someone's character was raped by your character against their consent. That is a situation I DON'T want to deal with.

Third, -and I want to be perfectly clear with this one,- 1)NO GODMODDING, 2)NO MUNCHKINNING, 3)NO SUPERPOWERS, and 4)NO NON-SHE COMES SOURCES.

1) NO GODMODDING. Face it, you may think the Missile Launcher with the Magic Bullet guidance system that locks onto bio-imprints is a very cool item, and I will agree with you on that, but EVERYBODY HATES AN ATTACK THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO DEFLECT AND INSTANTLY LETHAL. Even sniper attacks are possible to survive (if roleplayed well wink.gif )

2) NO MUNCHKINNING. Munchkinning is when something is soo over the top that it's rediculous. Ever see a movie called the Transporter? (or, Transporter 2, now in theaters with 25% more stupid!) The guy can drive like Jeff Gordon, shoot like Rambo, kung fu like Neo, scuba dive like Jacques Cousteau, hook up with chicks like Bond, and weee represent, the lollipop guild, the lollipop guild, the lollipop guild... If your character can do everything, he makes the game less fun, for everyone else AND for you.

3) NO SUPERPOWERS. Yes, She Comes has biotech engineered humans/EDS units. No, that doesn't mean you can be the Human Torch "because he was designed to do that". The most powerful power I'll allow a PC to have is EDS strength, or Magical Girl powers, and naturally, there's conditions that go with those. For instance, as an EDS, you're bound to the will of the Pingling collective. If you're not, you're their enemy, and congratulations, you have yourself an enemy of pretty much the whole main cast of She Comes. Ouch. I wouldn't want to take on Junpei, Cyber-enhanced Largo, 7 (is it 7?) EDS units, Dom, Ed, Miho, Sashi, etc. all at once, do you? (plus Wyndham and WhiteKnight. At least for now.)

Anyway, as far as 'What is a superpower?', I don't want to yea or nay every single little power, I just don't want your character to suddenly start gathering leyline energy or something. For instance, if someone wanted to play a character with a Caster gun like Gene Starwind, I'd nix it, even though I love Outlaw Star. Because it's not in She Comes. If you're a ninja, do Ninja stuff. If you're an EDS, do Cute yet Violent Robot Girl stuff. If you're a L337 Hacker, quiver in fear of the characters that are massively more powerful than you. Or, change their status in Government archives to 'Deceased'. That's always fun. biggrin.gif

Also, FOR those of you with characters with L337 PC sk1llz, remember the rules are different inside the machine (that's, like, computer/net stuff, not, you know, The Machine) and that powers rest on hardware, software, and pure unadulterated skill. We'll try not to get too technical with connection speed and the like though, 'kay?

I really don't know how to handle Magical Girl powers, seeing as I'm limited in my knowledge of them in the first place. I think if any other characters like this crop up, it'd be a good idea to follow Zippo's example: her character can do some pretty awesome stuff, but then she's kinda useless for a while. As I've said before, as long as you don't go all godly with them I'll try not to raise too much of a ruckus...

(ARI POSTED THIS PARAGRAPH ABOUT TECHNO-NINJAS)

I have a solution for the ninja skill thing. In the sci-fi series Babylon 5 and the one that came after it (I think it was called Excalibur) there were people called Techno-Mages they used technology (duh) to replicate the effects of magic. They could do all kinds of cool things. One of which was a solid-state hologram that could be cut up and would even fool biosensors. Then there is also a BBC sci-fi show called Red Dwarf that had a lot of cool things that might be used by a Techno-Ninja (wow I just invented a character class happy.gif). Then you also have the existance of Dark Matter/Energy which is supposed to make up around 99% of our universe (or so I've heard) and there are those that think it was the ability to harness and control this substance that first gave rise to the belief in the existance of magic (in other words the first wizards were supposed just be people with psychic powers). My point about the Dark Matter/Energy is that in a sci-fi setting it is possible that a machine could exist which would be able to harness and control this energy to give its user "magic-like" powers. I do believe that if such a machine were to exist in MegaTokyo that it would not need to be huge as some might suggest but rather with the help of some kind of neural enhancer unit a person would gain access to this power (if only very limited access). Sorry for the rambling. (heh) happy.gif'

My basic view on ninjas follows: Remember that if you're unsure, Mad Kung Fu, subterfuge, and Matrix-y balance are always a ninja's friends... even in Real Life.

(UNSURE WHERE TO PUT THIS, BUT IT'S IMPORTANT. TAMA ON PvP [Player versus Player])

It's never too early for PvP. It just depends on how well you play it out. I ended it [an early confrontation between Tama and WK ~Spyder] with no major injuries or fatalities. Perfect example. Major players can't afford such things so early on...or can we? *ponders getting an injury, just so he can have more gadgets*

Back to me, Spyder. In any case, however much you hate someone's character, it's probably the best not to KILL their character without their consent (that doesn't mean, however, that you can't hurt them really really bad laugh.gif)

4) NO NON-SHE COMES SOURCES. I don't care about your SSJ's ki blast, because in She Comes, Dragonball is what Largo watches when he's bored/not assassinating tentacle monsters. Remember, our source is She Comes, and She Comes' source is Megatokyo and Neal Stephenson novels.

The idea is to stick to the universe of She Comes, crossed with the Thread RP, but less chaotic. It's like this. You wouldn't allow a Shadowrunner into a straight up D&D game, would you?

That being said, I am trying to be rather loose with this, I'm just trying to make this lean more towards the sci-fi than the supernatural... but let's not quibble about things like anime physics and the like.

(I debated whether or not to put this one up again, I haven't been enforcing this rule too much. I guess as far as She Comes goes, it's not as important as it is to Megatokyo. Oh well. Here it is anyway.)

The ability to speak both Japanese AND English is a skill that requires years of study.

Not a birthright just because you can read what's in the brackets.

Assume that if you can speak both perfectly, that is basically WHAT YOUR CHARACTER DOES. Trained to become a translator.

Not saying I WON'T let you speak both, but most people in Tokyo speak (gasp!) Japanese. And a little Engrish.

I hope that clears everything up as far as rules go.
