  1. I have started repopulating the main site as a little project, cyberpunk.co.uk. Had managed to retrieve all the old pages but to be honest they do look like they came from the 1990's so have started creating some new content including images created by an AI - it's all the rage at the moment!

Any ideas for new content please let me know and i will see what i can do. :)

  2. i have mixed feelings about 2020. I have stayed at home since February - I work from home anyway so that was not an issue. Have been out for long walks out the back of my house which I am lucky enough to be able to do (I live out in the countryside) but have not really met anyone for nearly a year - have my wife for company and we have been a great team. And I am happier than ever.

CP 2077 - really was looking forward to it but realised I'd have to get a console. When it got delayed to the end of 2020 I realized I would be battling to get a console. Then in an inspired move I purchased it on Google Stadia. My Mac is powerful enough to run that and I have unlimited bandwidth (though only about 30mb download speed). I tried out a couple of free games on Stadia and was impressed enough so purchased CO2077 and I ran pretty good - good enough for me to love it. None of the glitches a lot of the gaming media was moaning about. I will point out that I have not played video games for many years - I'm mostly board games these days - so in fact it was fantastic compared to what I had been used to!

Then i got an email from Google. Because I had purchased CP2077 and a Premium Stadia subscription they were sending me a free controller package - worth £90  so that was nice, though I am a keyboard and mouse man.  Two days later the controller package turns up. It included a Chromecast that i could run Stadia through. Never used one before but I realised it would happily plug into my superwide monitor and the power plug has an ethernet jack - so I hooked it all up and switched my monitor over from the Mac to the Chromecast and also set up the controller. The controller uses wifi and also has an audio port so is not tethered. The quality of CP2077 though the Chromecast is even better - how do they do this - the Chromecast is tiny!?!

I am even using the controller now - still shit compared to how I was on the keyboard but getting better every day.  CP 2077 is superb. I'm going onto situations where I am jacking into the security cameras - tagging all the bad guys, resetting their optics so I can pop them off easily. The game play is great - the storyline is a cracker! And when I say line - I mean there are set pieces as expected but multiple ways to get to each and so much to explore.

It is a sensational game, in my humble opinion.

2021 so far has been ok. (Though I think Arasaka is going to fuck me over pretty soon...)

  3. Yes saw the trailer ages ago, but trailers are never true representations of game play. Normally. Having watched the 48 min game play video I realised the trailier was made using the in game material. Sensational! Not seen the Deep Dive yet so thanks for that!

  4. Thank you all for pitching in - lots of kind words.

I'm not impoverished - just wanted to keep the forum ticking over.

I am going to go for option 2 and shift it all over to Invisions Cloud system. that will give the site a refresh.

i will consider a subscription level - I was thinking of $1 per month but not going to do that for now but explore other ways to cover the costs.

I think I will need to shut the site while it is being upgraded else we will lose posts between when the database is copied and the new software is switched on.

i will push out another email when I get a date for this.

Thank you all for being part of this community over the years. I am hoping that with 2020 coming we can reinvigorate it all. If not then i will have enjoyed a valiant last stand! Hurrah!

  5. Hello all.

First off my apologies for not being visible for years. I do pop in occasionally to make sure this place has burnt down in flames and am always pleased to see some life.

So next year is approaching fast and is a bit of a watershed moment. 2020.

How things have changed in the past 20 years and how much has not changed either - where are the flying cars!?!

Anyway, I need to make a decision about the forums future. It has been costing me somewhere in the region of $50 per month to host it and as I was made redundant 2 years ago (now freelance) money is a little tighter than I would have hoped. I don't want to let it go but it can't stay as it is. Here are the options.

    1. Move the site as it is to a new host .

    2. Move onto the Invision Cloud hosting solution

    3. Shut it down

    Option 1:

i have some other hosting I run client and project websites from and I could move the site as is there. Downside is it is going to take me a while to do this and it is complex. This system is old and the php version running it will soon be obsolete so it will need some sort of an upgrade to keep it going.

    Option 2:

The forum runs on Invision Forum software. They have continually updated their solution and now offer cloud hosting. But the smallest package is $45 a month ($5 cheaper so I could afford milk!). This option provides me with ways to monetise the site in ways other than the advertising (that brings in about $3 per year). This could include a membership scheme which i would keep the cost as low as possible (as some others of you would like milk too). It also offers up to date forum software with better features and we would get a fresh lick of paint (look and feel).

    Option 3:

It's been great but it's time to lay it to rest and move on.

As has been said in some of the threads that forums are old now, (but like email they keep going) so really this post is reaching out to you all to see if you are still interested in carrying on the forum. I'd personally like to run with option 2 especially with 2020 coming up but its going to cost me a few hundred $ to port the forum into the cloud system so I won't do it if you are not interested. If we go with option 1 then I think the forum will die off naturally and option 3 I get to save some money (but will be very sad)!

Let me know your thoughts please.
