  1. Just a quick note to the Aussies on this board.

Thanks to the American news media and an ex-GI shooting people up and down Maryland and Virginia, the 93 people you lost in Bali was never made known to the American people until now.

We remember the support you gave us after September 11th 2001. We know the bombers in Bali were aiming at Americans. We now know that the 93 people you lost was the single worst loss to terrorists in Austrailian history. We know how you feel. Thank you for support in the past. I am sorry you too got dragged into this.

Please pass this on to your fellow countrymen and women.

    -Murph

  2. Most western militaries are developing "filtering" eye protection. In fact the current issue binos and laser range-finders have laser-safe filters. (Against laser-rangefinder type lasers, not those designed to specifically blind)

Eventually most optics will become digital and more akin to watching TV than looking through goggles, in which case the lasers will have little effect.

I think having a woman or a black person of either gender in the White House would certainly be a big step forward.

    Why?

Because at least it would be a change of bloody pace.

    How?

Actually whenever the US is developing a system they put an "X" in front for eXperimental.

The US Army shot down a 155mm artillery shell in flight the other day. Here's the link.

You missed out Anne (who while not up there in the Righteous Smackdown Stakes did have Marlborough as a minion), and Mary (who let the side down with the Catholic Powered Central Heating thingy, and LOST CALAIS godamnit).

You forgot Eleanor d'Aquitaine. As power-hungry and corrupt as any King ever was.

And then there was Isabella (ala Braveheart) who was such a sweetheart her own son put her under house arrest, and executed her boyfriend.

Very nice... One of my friends is a blacksmith and he said that if I was very good, he would make me something sharp for Christmas. He won't tell me what though.  :(

A nice little key-ring can of pepper-spray should do you nicely! :)

  7. The funny thing about American politics is that right-wing conservative ideals of 2002 would be considered downright left-wing liberal in 1952!

Most Americans fall somewhere in the middle, and many are likely to vote against a party who has been in control too long. There seems to be an 8-12 year trend. 12 years of Reagan / Bush, 8 years of Clinton (both of them) and although the 2000 election was anything but decisive, Americans seem pretty happy with Bush/The Right.

    For the moment...

Although I think the left/right spectrum is being judged by American standards.

Well, actually in America we have Liberals and we have left-wing conservatives.

If you define liberal as open to hearing out any and all ideas, with the possibility that each and every viewpoint MAY have some validity, then there are very few liberals in America.

If you define Liberal as the current politcally correct, if-you-disagree-with-me-you-are-a-small-minded-fascist viewpoint, then we have a whole buncha liberals.

My point being even the American traditional definitions of left/right have changed significantly.

Well we started, I and Surial a long time ago a site to collate various cyberpunk styled links. So to start it off, here are two:

    King Kimble
Kimble is supposedly a secuiryt consultant with enough toys to fill several life times. He could be a roleplayer, but would most likely not be allowed within ten feet of a game I would be in.

    Nici's Girls
I thought about putting in an application, but it would simply make me even more depressed.

Judging by his clothes and phenominal ego, I'd say he is either a paprazzi, professional photographer (as opposed to slimely paprazzi) or a professional party-crasher.

  11. Centrist between left-liberal and authoritarian.

Although I answered yes to voluntary military service, which is not necessarily a leftist view and may have counted for that.

Also I voted against repealing minimum wage laws. Coming from a blue-collar family I just could not bring myself to vote for it.

  12. Quote (wilphe @ Nov. 04 2002,22:50)
Western Society is essentially at an unpleasent choice.

The ratio of people of working age to retirees is set to rise, as people live longer but retire at the same time. This gives governements four options:

    1

That is a very blanket statement.

Most Americans who are not already dependant upon government support have accepted the fact that social security will not exist in 30 years. So by the time it's gone, I doubt anyone will miss it.

  13. Well, since Mother Deuce is frequently mounted on something big and armoured you really don't need to bother with the trench-coat.

Unless you just wanna look kewl in your Urban Assault Vehicle.

Interesting point about the teletubbies. Their target audience consists of two-year-olds and nursery school children, but I know for a fact that a large number of nurseries have banned the showing of teletubby videos, as they set a bad example for the children in that they act too stupidly. There is also an implanted television thing in chromebook 3, which I refer to as the teletuby device.

And I am suprised that noone has picked up on the homosexual connotations of a certain teletubby.

Actually I believe Jerry Fallwell got a lot of heat for saying that tinky-blinky was gay.

Since they don't seem to have genitalia I don't really see how they could be gay...
