  1. Think of it this way. There are three BILLION women on this planet (+/-). No need to get wrapped around the axle about the one! ;)

(BTW, you have NO idea how hypocritcal it was for me to make that statement...)

Merry Chritmas and a happy new year everyone!
(birthday today, turning 23... I'm old)

My presents should be coming in January, when I finally breakdown and buy myself a computer....

Happy B-Day Chys! AND YOU ARE NOT OLD. I'm 30 after all...

Doesn't an 800m range for an RPK seem a bit high - I doubt the sights are graduated that high - and the round isn't designed for that long range.  The RPK shouldn't outrange the M240 (7.62x51 NATO GPMG)

That depends on if you are talking actual range or effective range. The effective range of the M-60 is 1100 meters, the max is 3,000 something. The M240 is like 1700 something. So I think 800m is realistic.

Also telescopic / digital sights for GPMGs are getting to be more commonplace these days. So that helps.e_8206.jpg

Umm...all those negatives that you listed would mean that it would never get into active service.
You see, the CP 2020 timeline was based upon the perception that the US military had selected the M-16 because it SUCKED.  That the Pentagon had nothing better to do than give the soldiers a crappy weapon after training those soldiers at large expense so they could walk off and die in the trenches.
While the general bitching from all the Vietnam vets and so called "gun experts" seems to point this way to those unfamiliar with the military the reality is that a change in powder largely contributed to this negative reputation.  Add to this that while the M-16 was a fairly high maintenance weapon compared to the weapons used by other nations at the time, Vietnam has some of the worst conditions for ANY rifle to operate under.
You see, they had selected the weapon for use in Europe so it was tested under conditions with Europe as a baseline.  Now they don't do that and the testing is for conditions all over the world and even under less-than-optimal conditions with it's use by the various special warfare units before general issue as they really work the weapon out under some crazy conditions.

    Mark(psycho)Phipps( HAHAHA! )

Also, that fu**ing a-hole genius Robert F. MacNemmera decided that IOT save money the M-16 did not need a chromed chamber. Combined with the change in powder and the myth that the M-16 was self-cleaning led to an absolute disaster. The M-16A1 which had the chromed chamber, forward assist (though not really necessary) was a significant improvement.

There was an article on the BBC site over the summer about how the British were trading their SA-80s for M-4/M-16A2s in Afghanistan because it was more reliable. Of course that is 40 years later....

Some of the things that irked me, if that word can be applied, were:

Faramir. His characterization was not at all like the novel. He said in the book, and I quote, 'I would not use this thing if I saw it lying in the road' in reference to the One Ring. In the film he was too much like his brother. That, and his taking of Frodo to Osgiliath - which never happened in the book, sorta cheesed me.

Gimli. They ran a bit wild with the comic relief stuff, but this was only mildly bothering to me because it did lighten the film up to casual viewers.

Frodo's offering of the One Ring to the Nazgul bummed me, too - yes it was a plot device, but I think a rather unnecessary one.

Yeah, those bothered me a lot too. Completely unescessary.

The Warg battle w/ Aragorn falling over the cliff. The movie is already 3 HOURS LONG. Adding stuff that was one sentence in the book was not at all necessary.

More Ents, less Arwen. Not saying cut her out, just saying there could have been a little less.

I really loved the movie, but I pray he does not mess with ROTK as much as he did TTT.

  6. Anyone running around in less than subtle, or more than appropriate body armor is gonna attract attention. It depends on the settng of course, but showing up in a well secured corprate arcology in metal-gear is going to raise more than eyebrows.

"Sir, would you  mind stepping over here to be wanded? <BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!> Sir, could you please remove your military grade combat suit? Thank you..."

Sadly, I don't get to keep it. :(

I was kinda hoping I would get to keep it in a jar to gross visitors out with, but they needed to keep it to do cross sections or something on it. What they do with it after that? I don't know.

    Ah well.

I'm feelign even better today. Didn't need my afternoon nap. ^_^

They're using it for DNA so they can clone you!  :0

Just a quick note to the Aussies on this board.

Thanks to the American news media and an ex-GI shooting people up and down Maryland and Virginia, the 93 people you lost in Bali was never made known to the American people until now.

We remember the support you gave us after September 11th 2001. We know the bombers in Bali were aiming at Americans. We now know that the 93 people you lost was the single worst loss to terrorists in Austrailian history. We know how you feel. Thank you for support in the past. I am sorry you too got dragged into this.

Please pass this on to your fellow countrymen and women.

    -Murph

Just out of curiosity, where are you in America that this wasn't everywhere?  It was headline news as soon as it happened - and the predominantly American forums that I frequent knew all about it just as soon as it happened. :(

The bombing was, but the 95 Aussies killed were not. And Austrailia did not receive nearly the kind of public support the US received from overseas after Oklahoma or Sept 11th.
