  1. I have them in text files scattered around, but I can dig them up and post a few.

I use the MaxMet rules to create them. STR 16 frames, by canon, have 1 slot in the head, 3 in the torso and 2 in all limbs. For STR 12 and 14 frames, I've occasionally use those option spaces, and sometimes downgrade them to 0.5/2/1. I haven't been consistent, unfortunately.

Oh, and I did create new mass/cost frames for the low-end, replacing the canon ones for hardsuit design. I extrapolated from existing frames, making lighter but more expensive ones. The canon STR 12 frame is 125kg, while the canon STR 20 frame is 116kg, so I made a lightened frame for 75kg (but nearly 3x the cost).

Handheld weapons are really the name of the game. 12.7mm or 14.5mm rifles, or the G-20 8mm MG, or the 13.9mm rifle. Put sidearms in an external holster on the leg. Only mount some equipment internally, with the limited space.

Hardsuits aren't as heavily equipped as real ACPA, but they can carry more than a regular trooper.

This is great food for thought. I was going to dive into MaxMet, but just haven't had the time yet. I think that the Pitt and Hooded Viper systems are a cool place to start. I remember that Mekton had a "mecha" design system that allowed you to scale systems and also add "efficiency" cost modifiers. You could shrink down a units systems, but there was a corresponding cost increased cost.

Gomiville, If and when you find the files, I'd love to see them.

  2. Well, Viper armors are buildt on STR 16 linear frames. And if you want anything that does not hinder user's mobility, you need a better control interface than basic linear frame - that's where ACPA parts'n'programs come into play.

    Very true...

Also, keep in mind that there doesn't seem to be a graphic representation of the Viper ACPA. So they might look however you like.

I always thought of these suits were like the Bubblegun Crisis Hardsuits. They seem to make sense and it is a great jumping off point to a different setting. I always thought that moving the game setting closer to BGC would have been a better idea, rather than jumping the shark as they did.

As for Cyberpunk armors - I recall things like Militech ER-1 (basically, MetalGear with partial frame) and Arasaka Blackjack (stealth armor). You could find them interesting.

I'll have to take a look.

  3. There doesn't seem to be anything near this level of tech in the 2020 timeline, neither in the 2025 Deep Space or 2027 CyberGeneration.

So you'd have to apply liberal amounts of handwavium...

We do, however, have highly effective soft armors. And we do have lightweight powerarmors - the Pit Viper / Hooded Viper should be what you're looking for, I think, and it is an offical derivative of the CP tech (presented in SoF2, IIRC).

I'm aware of the Pitt Viper and Hooded Viper... these remember me of the Hardsuits from Bubblegum Crisis. I was not thinking of reproducing the "special abilities" of the suits... that goes WAY beyond the tech level... but the basic design that I listed was all I was thinking. Maybe adding a few extras (flame throwers or holo-projectors, etc) to mimic other abilities.

I was looking at the Pitt Viper/Hooded Viper as possibilities of a Bubblegum Crisis-esque game

  4. Greetings one and all,

I post this quandary looking for some feedback. As of late, I have been playing WARFRAME on the XBOX ONE. (Not that the system is important). I have a level 30 Excaliber armor. I have it tricked out and I cleave some mighty damage.

Now... I was playing it this morning and my 12 y/o son mentioned that it would be cool running around Night city in a Warframe. That got me to thinking.

First let me take a step back. The WARFRAME is combat suit, used by a race called the Tannu. A sort of cosmic ninja clan. There are multiple different suit, which you can see here

Each suit has different abilities which honestly reach into the realm of super-science or beyond... The interesting thing is that the suit only really provides protection and enhanced abilities while the wearer uses hand weapons to complete their missions. Now I realize that this is an over-simplification of the suits, but I just wanted to set the stage as it were.

I came up with an idea for a WARFRAME in Cyberpunk 202(5). Using tech pulled from different books, and mashing it together.

    Standard Warframe:

The "skin" of the suit is akin to a spacer skinsuit. It starts off baggy but when activated, it tightens down and forms the "skin" suit, which is where it gets it's name. Melded into the suit is next-generation skin-weave armor that grants an unprecedented level of protection while allowing maximum flexibility. The final component of the "skin" layer is a next-gen linear frame. Again, the frame would grant a balance of strength and flexibility. All of these components are merged into a slim, form-fitting package.

The helmet is equipped with an array of sensors such as Low-Lite, Thermo and a radio system.

To add to the fun as the suit, based on a skinsuit design, is able to survive for short duration in the vacuum of space. A supplemental air supply can be added to extend this time.

    SO.....

    "Skinsuit" design

    SP = 18 armor

    Linear Frame STR = 18

    Any thoughts?

  5. senior officer Mikael van Atta,

Thank you very much for the information. I don't remember hearing about Eclipse Phase before... but it looks interesting and since it is free to download... I will check it out.

I was re-reading the DEEP SPACE supplement when your message arrived.

  6. Thanks for the replies...

I like the thousand-shades-of-grey idea that Cyberpunk showed. I was planning on introducing AI's to push the "what makes you human?" idea. I recently saw Deux Machina and it was an interesting idea.

As far as fighting the 4th Corporate War... I figured that most of the characters will be involved in border action and not especially in the heat of the conflict.

I have a character that, due to advanced genetic engineering, has a limited life-span. Like the Kurgan said in Highlander.. "It's better to burn out, than to fade away!"

    As I have imagined it.....

As the Cyberpunk world moves toward the 4th Corporate war, cyberware and the like is firmly entrenched in the world. Honestly, I don't see this changing.

As the Corporations start fighting each other, there is a push for the tech to advance... to become harder, faster, tougher.. etc.

Bio-engineering starts to push to the front as well as the idea of AI Soldiers that are more loyal and willing to fight. These concepts have already been mentioned as "Cyberpets and the like".

I have been a big anime fan for a while and so I wanted to introduce the idea of enhanced PA suits. An idea that I thought was interesting was the transforming mecha-bike. In Mekton, these were classified as "Roadstrikers". In the BGC 203X supplement, there are bikes, given to the police that can transform into humanoids that can be a cop's partner. I liked the idea and feel that the street-level mecha would blend into the Cyberpunk world.

Once the tech is realized for functional mecha.... making them bigger would be a natural progression.

I don't want the mecha to become the focal point of the game and so I see them (realistically) as the play-toys of the army.

I just wanted to move the game forward and change the world focus. After reading the FireStorm: Vol 3 Fan fic, there is reference to major corporations falling. Arasaka Corp is in shambles and Militech is broken down into small companies and sold off. Other corporations would grow and take their places.

As far as the Mars colony goes.... If an O'Neil colony were to be placed into orbit above Mars.. and turned into a massive farm, the now-independent colony would have a source of food.

Eventually, the characters will go to Mars... I have the Deep Space supplement and I am planning on running the included mission. Since it takes a year each way.... that would be 2 years into the future.

Thanks for the input... let me know what you think

    [EDIT]

I just remembered that I also have the When Gravity Fails supplement and I read the associated books. That is set further into the future also.

  8. As I have posted in a couple of posts, I have played Cyberpunk 2020 since 1990. I started around the same time Shadowrun (1ed) came out. I played both games for a while. As I look at the newest edition of Shadowrun, I am inspired to work on a campaign that takes the world further into the future.

It is obvious that the game is becoming dated with each passing year. I wanted to craft a continuation of the world setting that would flow from 2020 into the dark future.

I started by scouring my library of books. I was pleased when I came across a Mekton Zeta supplement, Starblabe Battalion. It is a continuation of the Cyberpunk world. It takes the world and moves it into the stars with giant mecha. This is an interesting idea and I am a big fan of mecha... but the time frame makes it impossible to move characters from one setting to another.... without using the "frozen in time.." trope.

I then found a "Firestorm Vol. 3" Fan-fic that tells the story of the world after the 4th Corp War. This got me to thinking about another R.Talsorian product that I played... Bubblegum Crisis. I started to put things together for a world that would move from CP2020 to BGC. The characters could fight through the 4th Corporate war and into the new age. Genom could grow from the wreckage... or maybe there could be a large movement where an orbital corporation breaks free and Mars fights for independence.

I present this here to see if I can get any creative input. This is a long-term project as I hope to keep the campaign going for as long as I can.

    Thanks for reading this far.

  9. Greetings one and all,

I have been playing Cyberpunk 2020 since 1990. Life caused a rather lengthy hiatus. Members of my old gaming group have found each other again and we have started playing again.

As of now, I am 43 y/o. A little old for a gamer I guess... but an avid fan none-the-less.

  10. Wow... an active Cyberpunk 2020 forum.

I have played CP2020 since 1990. I played it solidily up until @ 2001. My group fell apart, I got married and the years seemed to disappear. Recently, friends from the past returned and I am reviving Cyberpunk. I even get to teach my son about the world. <The circle is complete>

I have been building up my campaign world and starting to plot out where things are going to go.

    SO... I guess in a round-about way....

    YES... I still play!
