  1. The event of the film Prometheus happen in the year 2089. 77 years may be too soon for self-aware androids such David 8, FTL starships such as USCSS Prometheus, and terra-forming. But it is an intriguing idea that technological breakthroughs happen exponentially during the next 70 odd years. If you would like to know more: http://www.weylandindustries.com/ Personally. I probably would mix Cyberpunk 2020 with Traveller 2300 to campaign in the Prometheus universe.
  2. There was also the Union of Sovereign States proposed by Mikhail Gorbachev in the New Union Treaty of 1991 that would have transformed the Soviet Union into a new confederation body: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_of_Sovereign_States The treaty signing was disrupted by the August putsch by Soviet hardliners and the KGB in 1991 and never signed/implemented. I guess that the timeline could be re-written as alternate history with the August putsch of 1991 succeeding and Gorbachev replaced with a Soviet hardliner backed up by the KGB. Perhaps the 1922 treaty creating the Soviet Union was replaced with a new treaty creating a New Soviet Union. Vice President Gennady Yanayev replacing Mikhail Gorbachev as President of the New Soviet Union. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gennady_Yanayev If I didn't have concept artwork with the current Russian tri-color flag, I may have made different creative decisions concerning Russian history in the Third Millennium setting.
  3. Soviet means "council" in Russian. So to me, Neo-Soviet means that new councils are ruling a nation in Eurasia. It doesn't necessarily mean that the Communist Party is resurgent in Russia or the former Soviet Union/Russian Empire. Slavic Union is also the name of a right-wing fascist political organization in Russia that has neo-Nazi tendencies. I thought of creating a fictional Slavic Union for my cyberpunk campaign before hearing about Putin's Eurasia Union idea. This gave me the idea of a reconstituted Russian Empire, but with all the names changed. The FSB acting like the KGB and the Cheka before it. Perhaps even restoring the Romanov dynasty and creating a constitutional monarchy in Russia and the lands of the former Soviet Union/Russian Empire. Many believe that the current Russian Federation is really an oligarchy. Putin is a former KGB Lt. Colonel and seems like he intends to be the chief executive of Russia for life, alternating between President and Prime Minister to obey Russia's constitution. Putin is also the shortening of the aristocratic family name Puyatin.

Impressive, most impressive, Thumper. Thank you for the link. Love that it has the Super Tucano, Bronco, and Pucara in there. The stats will help me to create the Boeing Mustang II, FAdeA Super Pucará, Northrop Grumman Super Mohawk, Sukhoi Anaconda, and a few other Russian COIN aircraft concepts and speculative concepts. McDonnell Douglas A-16 Banshee II, Dassault Breuget Cyclone, Eurofighter Tempest, Eurofigther Hurricane, Lockheed Martin P-9 Seamaster II, Lockheed Martin P-10 Siren, Lockheed Martin C-52 Milky Way, McDonnell Douglas C-48 Cargomaster II, McDonnell Douglas AH-64N Gray Thunder, the Sikorsky ABC/X2 concepts, Sukhoi Su-51 (PAK FA) etc. It will also help with creating stats for ships including the United States Navy Khe Sahn-class (LVVA-01), the Constellation-class ultracarrier, DCNS SMX-23, DCNS Swordship, CGBL, arsenal ship, CVF, PA2 etc.
  5. I don't believe that the Soviet Union, or the Russian Federation, is going to stand for a ballistic missile shield. The launch of the Polyus orbital battlestation on May 15, 1987 was probably in violation of the Outer Space Treaty of 1967. If it had not fallen into the ocean, I imagine that President Reagan and some in the Congress would consider the Outer Space Treaty null and void. The problem being that no other outer space bodies are ready for human colonization. A moon base wouldn't be totally self-supporting at first. The creation of water from the lunar regolith or from ice and the creation of oxygen from this water would allow the moonbase to not be totally dependent on supplies from Earth. Perhaps after decades a moonbase could be made totally self-sufficient. Plants might be able to terra-form Mars. But I don't know how many decades it would take before the atmosphere could support humans and terrestrial animals. A Cyberpunk 2020 campaign can certainly be the beginning of this process. If half of the US was covered in radiation, we would lose half of our land area.
  6. Sorry it took me so long to see this response, Companero, I don't know why I didn't see it. Maximum Metal mentions that the United States Air Force relinquished the close air support (CAS) mission to the United States Army in the write-up on the A-01 Blitz. (Ignorant designation and stupid name.) Therefore, we can presume that the Key West Agreement of 1948 has been modified or re-negotiated between the United States Navy, United States Army, and United States Air Force. I don't know if it has gone as far as referring to the United States Army Aviation Branch as the United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) or the United States Army Air Force (USAAF). Thoughts? Cyberpunk 2020 was created in the era of the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) or "Star Wars." So I presume that the United States Air Force had to give up the close air support (CAS) and some of the military lifting role to other services so that it could take the lead in the militarization of space. Perhaps Military Airlift Command (MAC) or Air Mobility Command (AMC) has become a tri-service command--Joint Military Airlift Command (JMAC) or Joint Air Mobility Command (JAMC)? I have concept artwork for United States Navy cargo planes, sea planes, and cargo ekranoplans (WIG/skimmers) that will be included in the forthcoming Aluminum Overcast. In the Third Millennium campaign setting, the United States Air Force is transitioning itself into the United States Aerospace Force. Considering the militarization of space its province, but still unwilling to give up the fighter aircraft mission to the United States Army. I am certainly going to add Project Thor orbital kinetic projectile satellites to On Plumes of Flame. These are also known as "Rods of God." The USAF will also have hyber-velocity rail guns, brilliant pebbles, kinetic kill vehicles, space-based and aircraft-based laser weapons. Deep Space mentions the three space shuttles assigned to the United States Air Force. I have been thinking of naming them Constellation, Intrepid, and Ranger. Then there is also the air-launched mini-shuttle designs from the 1980s that were designed for the United States Air Force. I also have concept artwork of air-launched ICBMs missile carrier aircraft that have vertical missile tubes. They would cold launch these missiles while these aircraft were flying. Unlike our real timeline, the Midgetman program will not be cancelled. These missiles can be launched from mobile launchers hardened against nuclear and biological attack. Perhaps the Peacekeeper Rail Garrison? That certainly can be added to the timeline. Perhaps later in the 21st century or the beginning of the 22nd century.
  7. As I have stated previously, the McGuffin in this updated space source book is Helium-3 (He-3, sometimes called tralphium) a light, non-radioactive isotope of helium with two protons and one neutron. Demand skyrockets (pun intended) for Helium-3 to fuel nuclear fusion reactors for electricity production and cryogenics. The current supplies of Helium-3 used in cryogenics, medical lung imaging, and nuclear weapons detection systems are created in nuclear reactors or as a by-product of the dismantling of nuclear weapons. The price of Helium-3 in recent years has been $2,000 per liter. Natural supplies of Helium-3 on Earth are extremely rare. This of course presumes the creation of a working nuclear fusion reactor, the building of fusion nuclear power plants to produce electricity, increased demand for electricity, and increased demand for cryogenics. I am taking the leap that nuclear fusion was politically, environmentally, and financially more attractive than nuclear, liquid natural gas, oil-fired, hydroelectric, or coal-fired electrical power plants. I imagine that demand for electricity increased because of future appliances, computing and communication devices, and electric cars and trains. I just don't believe that CHOOH2, ethanol, or renewable energy such as solar, wind, geothermal, or OTEC are going to offer economies of scale for future energy production. Maybe they will be niche players. Hydrogen fuel cells require an energy-using industrial process to convert sea water into hydrogen. So I am imagining that all this demand for Helium-3 would make mining of the lunar regolith financially viable and shipping the Helium-3 back to Earth attractive. Helium-3 concentrations on the moon are 50 ppb in permanently shadowed regions and 1.4 and 15 ppb in sunlit areas. Metal commodity prices are just too low to make the mining of minerals from stellar objects financially viable in the 21st Century. The infrastructure costs are just too high to justify the building of a space transportation infrastructure purely for collection of commodity or strategic minerals. I believe that the deep oceans and Antarctica would be exploited before venturing off into space. Avatar used a fictional mineral unobtanium to justify the commercial exploitation of the planet Pandora. Unobtanium was a room-temperature superconductor valued at "20 million a kilo" required for their current generation of computing and communication devices. Other uses of space for commercial purposes is the growth of crystals in zero-G (such as protein crystals for pharmaceutical production), improved semiconductor wafer manufacturing, and micro-encapsulation. Perhaps Intel, ON Semiconductor, Freescale Semiconductor and the others cannot manufacture their latest generation of whiz-bang processors in full-gravity on Earth. Might be financially viable if the silicon chips produced in space were worth several hundreds times more than their weight in gold. I am also doing research to determine if it is advantageous to manufacture biochips in space or protein-molecule-based computing devices in space. I cannot recall if Cyberpunk 2020 is post-silicon for the cyberdecks. I can only remember Gibson's biochips and Shadowrun. I am also doing research if it is advantageous to research dangerous and exotic agents that pose a high individual risk of aerosol-transmitted laboratory infections, agents which cause severe to fatal disease in humans for which vaccines or other treatments are not available, such as Bolivian and Argentine hemorrhagic fevers, Marburg virus, Ebola virus, Lassa fever, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, smallpox, and various other hemorrhagic diseases in space. I guess that I could throw in the late-1970s idea of Solar Power Satellites (SPS) in Earth orbit that would transmit electricity back to Earth in the form of microwaves. To launch these satellites into orbit would require heavy lift launch vehicles and hundreds of launches. The components would then be assembled in orbit via RPVs and/or spacewalks. So I am thinking that it will be energy utilities, big pharmaceutical companies, and big computing device manufacturing companies that will be the drivers for the commercialization of space. I agree that it isn't going to be commodity or strategic minerals that will finance the race for space.
  8. I know that the Imperial Household Law of 1947 restricted the succession to legitimate-born sons, grandsons, and male line descendants of the emperor. There is debate in Japan in changing the Imperial Household Law after Crown Princess Masako had difficulty conceiving. She and Crown Naruhito were able to have a daughter, Princess Aiko. A Japanese government-appointed panel of experts submitted a report on 25 October 2005, recommending that the Imperial succession law be amended to permit absolute primogeniture, allowing Princess Aiko to be next in line to the throne. As far as I know, no proposal to amend the Imperial Household Law has been submitted to the Diet despite support of then Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi. I have not been able to find information about Japanese inheritance practice to know what is typical today or in the 1960s when Saburo took over Arasaka. I guess that Saburo's brothers could have died during the fire-bombing of Japan or during a military campaign of World War II.

I would very much like to see what you have come up with Thumper, if you would be willing to share them.
  10. I was doing research on names and found out that the name Saburo, or Saburou, means "three son" in Japanese and this name was traditionally given to the third son. I guess we can presume that Sasai Arasaka had at least three sons. Corporation Report 2020: Arasaka and IEC makes no mention of other children of Sasai Arasaka. Ichiro means "one son" and Jiro means "two son". Was there an Ichiro Arasaka and a Jiro Arasaka? Were Saburo's older brothers killed during the Second World War? Kei, the name of Saburo's son, means "Joyful" in Japanese which must be a joke considering his depiction in the Cyberpunk books. I've read that the name Arasaka was meant as a homage to the Arisaka family of bolt action rifles that served in the Japanese military from 1898 until the end of World War II. The rifle was designed by Colonel Nariakira Arisaka who was later made a Lt. General in the Imperial Japanese Army and a Baron by Emperor Meiji.

Maximum Metal attempted to portray consolidation in the United States and the world's aerospace and defense industries. I presume that Rockheed was an attempt to portray the merger of Rockwell International and Lockheed. Perhaps a merger of Sikorsky with Mitsubishi with the SM Dragon. MacDonald Douglass a fictional representation of McDonnell Douglas. Unfortunately, the Cyberpunk 2020 books are poorly edited and so Lockheed and Rockheed appears in Maximum Metal. In Aluminum Overcast, I am going to let the concept artwork I have dictate whether a company is still in existence. For example, I have loads of concept artwork of unbuilt projects from McDonnell Douglas with the name McDonnell Douglas painted on the side of the aircraft concept. Therefore, McDonnell Douglas will be used rather than the fictional MacDonald Douglass. Since the aviation assets of Rockwell International were sold to Boeing. The name Rockheed will not be used. Rockwell International actually sold the assets of the defunct North American Aviation to Boeing, not the entire company. For simplicity, the name Boeing will be used rather than creating a fictional Boeing North American Aviation or North American Boeing. Lockheed merged with Martin Marietta, creating Lockheed Martin. Lockheed Martin acquired the aviation assets of General Dynamics, the old Convair or Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Company. Lockheed Martin will be used rather than creating a fictional Lockheed Martin Marietta Convair or Lockheed Convair. BAe aka British Aerospace acquired various British defense companies including Vickers Shipbuilding and Engineering Limited (VSEL) to become BAE Systems. Several European aerospace firms merged to create European Aerospace and Defense Systems (EADS). The Panavia fighter consortium become Eurofighter. Northrop Grumman exists in Aluminum Overcast rather than the fictional Northrup Grummen. In most cases, the current incarnation of a aerospace or defense company will be used in Aluminum Overcast rather than following the inconsistent Cyberpunk 2020 canon. So I will not use Federated-Boeing or Fed-Boeing. Westland will be purchased by Agusta to become AgustaWestland. Aerospatiale helicopters will be manufactured by the Eurocopter division of EADS. Panavia and Pan-Europe will become Eurofighter or EADS respectively. British Aerospace or BAe will be BAE Systems. General Dynamics aircraft and concepts will become Lockheed Martin etc. I wonder if Scandia Aerospace, a subsidiary of Arasaka, is supposed to be the aerospace company SAAB for Svenska Aeroplan AB. So would it be Scandia Aerospace JAS-39 Gripen? Arasaka also has the subsidiary Korusu Commercial Aircraft per Corporation Book 2020: Arasaka and IEC.

Aluminum Overcast will use the United States Tri-Service aircraft designation system introduced by the United States Department of Defense on September 18, 1962 for all United States military aircraft. Under the 1962 system, almost all aircraft receive an unified designation, whether operated by the United States Air Force (USAF), United States Navy (USN), United States Coast Guard (USCG), United States Marine Corps (USMC), or the United States Army. Experimental aircraft operated by manufacturers or National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) are also often assigned numbers in the X-series. Using the United States Tri-Service aircraft designation system, the United States Army could not assign the designation A-01 to the "Blitz"even if the United States Army took over some, or all, of the close air support (CAS) role or some, or all, of the ground attack role from the United States Air Force. Also in the Third Millennium timeline, the McDonnell Douglas/Nortrop Grumman A-12 Avenger II is cancelled on January 7, 1991. Sorry to those who wanted to add the "Flying Dorito" to their Cyberpunk campaigns. Including the A-12 would prevent from adding the later Northrop Grumman Rapid Theater Attack (RTA) proposal. It should also be pointed out that the experimental X designations given by manufacturers or NASA are not related to the Tri-Service aircraft designation given to the aircraft when it is ordered. The F-35 designation given to the Lockheed Martin X-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) proposal is an example of an error using the United States Tri-Service aircraft designation system. Therefore, the Lockheed Martin Lightning II will have a lower F- number in the Third Millennium campaign setting than it does in reality. For additional information refer to the article "'Missing' USAF/DOD Aircraft Designations" by Andreas Parsch: http://www.designation-systems.net/usmilav/missing-mds.html The aircraft selected for the United States Navy A/FX program derived from the F-22 will be designated the Lockheed Martin/Boeing F/A-25 Buccaneer. The Northrop Grumman RTA (Rapid Theater Attack) proposal derived from the YF-23 will be designated the Northrop Grumman FB-26 Black Widow II. The Lockheed Martin Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) will be designated the Lockheed Martin F-27 Lightning II. Since its resemblance to the Fairchild Republic A-10, the A-01 Blitz from Maximum Metal will be re-designated and re-named the Fairchild Republic A-14 Thunderchief II. The A-13 designation number will be skipped over due to superstition. The naming convention for aircraft manufactured by Republic Aviation typically use the prefix Thunder-. I find it highly unlikely that the United States Air Force, United States Army, or Department of Defense would suggest the foreign name Blitz and would instead use the English Lightning. For the reasons stated above, I reject the designation and name A-01 Blitz.

    Aluminum Overcast

ALUMINUM OVERCAST Aluminum Overcast will be a sourcebook documenting military, civil, and general aviation in the Third Millennum campaign setting using the Maximum Metal rules of Cyberpunk 2020. Here you will find fighters, bombers, counter-insurgency aircraft, helicopters, airliners, business jets, ekranoplanes, airships and more that fly through the skies of the world of 2037. Aircraft will be introduced to this topic and I would appreciate "play testers" who would provide comments, suggestions, and corrections. Especially to my calculations using the Maximum Metal rules. The name Aluminum Overcast is an allusion to the obstruction of the sun by an aircraft passing overhead and its shadow. Aluminum Overcast,B-17G-105-VE, s/n 44-85740, civil registration N5017N, is the name of one of only a few surviving Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses in existence. It is owned by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), and it tours the U.S.A. and Canada offering flight experiences. Although never amassing a combat record, and barely escaping the fate of many aircraft that were scrapped after World War II, Aluminum Overcast has become one of the most recognizable examples of the type, due to its extensive touring schedule with over one million flight miles accumulated. The painstaking overhaul and restoration of the airframe took more than 10 years and thousands of hours by dedicated staff and volunteers at EAA Oshkosh, Wisconsin, headquarters.
  16. During the 1990s, NASA will resume manned lunar missions as part of "Project: Artemis" and a manned mission to Mars as part of "Project: Aries."
  17. Post script: Since I am being inspired by Cyberpunk 2020, I am going to call this project The Third Millennium campaign setting. Or maybe New World Order campaign setting. I am particularly interested in the evolution from Cyberpunk to post-Cyberpunk (Transhumanism). Particularly incorporating ideas from GURPS: Transhuman Space over time. I have decided that I am going to set these sourcebooks twenty-five years into the future in the year 2037. The point of divergence in my timeline from our own occurs sometime in 1987. Particularly, the repeal of the 22nd Amendment that would allow President Ronald Reagan to run for a third term as President of the United States, defeating Democratic Presidential nominee Michael Dukakis. President Reagan will seize the Panama Canal during the Invasion of Panama (20 December 1989 – 31 January 1990). President Reagan will then campaign for the repeal of the Torrijos–Carter Treaties and re-establish the Panama Canal Zone as an unincorporated territory of the United States. Reagan will also continue to push for the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) or "Star Wars" abrogating the Outer Space Treaty of 1967. He will also champion the Pioneering the Space Frontier report prepared by the National Commission on Space. Reagan believes that the road to America's energy independence lies with the building of Helium-3-fuelled nuclear fussion powerplants and advocates a public and private space exploration and development partnership. "Project: Selene" is a NASA/Department of Energy and a private industrial consortium project to create a space infrastructure to mine the lunar regolith for Helium-3 and return it to Earth. The industrial consortium will be named Selene Industries for the archaic Greek lunar deity and the daughter of the Titans Hyperion and Theia. The private industrial consortium includes United Launch Alliance LLC, a joint venture of Lockheed Martin, McDonnell Douglas, and Boeing, and the largest electrical utilities in the United States. Between 1988 and 1992, Reagan will declare a "War on Drugs." Imagine Tom Clancy's Clear and Present Danger set to 11. The U.S. Invasion of Nicaragua bringing about the downfall of President Daniel Ortega and the Sandanista regime will occur before 1990. The new regime will use the Walker flag of 1856-1857. Persian Gulf War occurs 2 August 1990 – 28 February 1991) and Operation Desert Sword from 17 January 1991 – 28 February 1991.

  19. I was watching Repo Men (2010) with Jude Law and Forest Whitaker and I was thinking how tailor-made the scenario of the film was for a Cyberpunk campaign. I like how the term artiforgs, for artificial organs, is used instead of cyberware or bioware. I believe that the word was actually coined by Philip K. Dick in his novel Ubik. In the novel, The Repossession Mambo by Eric Garcia, Remy works for the Credit Union which was changed to The Union in the motion picture adaption. I think it would be very interesting if much of the cyberware/bioware in the Cyberpunk universe is financed by consumer debt. That perhaps health insurance does not pay for artiforgs, the surgery that installs them, or the follow-up care and maintenance that is required to keep them functioning. That "The Union" is in between the regular medical establishment and the black clinics. They provide E-Z financing for people with "good credit" or higher rates of interest for people with little or bad credit. Repo Men who repossess the artiforgs for "The Union" could be the mission of a Cyberpunk team. (Or maybe Trauma Team or REO Meatwagon has a credit department. Or perhaps a future version of Group Health, Kaiser Permanente, or some other Cyberpunk version of private health insurance and private health care providers.) There could also be "nests" that exist of people whose payments for artiforgs are delinquent that could be cleared-out by a Cyberpunk team. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repo_Men
  20. This is apocrypha to the canon timeline, but I was thinking of Frederick Pohl's 1976 Nebula Award-winning novel Man Plus and its sequel Mars Plus with Thomas T. Thomas. Perhaps Operation: Green Man or Project: Green Man consists of two phases. The first phase would involve cybernetic and bio-mechanical modification of human volunteers who could survive the harsh conditions on Mars. These volunteers could be used to start building bases and infrastructure so that colonies could be built on Mars. I do find it strange that in the Cyberpunk timeline it is ESA (an organization of European governments) rather Arianespace, that is performing the genetic engineering. It would seem to me that ESA might pay for research performed by a private entity. If I were to re-write the timeline today, I would have the research performed by Astrium, an aerospace subsidiary of the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS) or Arianespace. The second phase of Project: Green Man would involve eugenics and genetic manipulations to create adapted human beings capable of living on Mars and reproducing. It would take almost two decades to grow human beings capable of reproducing. Growth acceleration may have side effects. You also have to take into account education and maturity. They would have to be able to perform useful work and make decisions. Otherwise, they would be just as useful as remotely operated vehicles (ROV). There seems to be disconnect that this research would be abandoned after the news of a living altered fetus leaks to the general public. If we are to believe that oligarchs and big corporations are in control, I believe that the research would continue despite protests or condemnation. If there are demonstrations outside the research institution performing this work, I would presume that they would be disbanded by riot police with water cannons, rubber bullets, sticky foam, or microwave weapons or some other non-lethal or lethal force. Does this really make sense if we are to believe that big-moneyed interests are in control in the Cyberpunk universe? I believe that the same is true for fetal tissue and stem cell research. Religious and other groups may protest, but the corporations couldn't care less and any of the remaining regulating bodies would fall in line behind the corporations. Multi-national corporations would act as though they are bigger than governments. If the research was outlawed in one jurisdiction, they would continue in defiance of the law or move the research elsewhere where it was legal. Russian Federal Space Agency, Roscosmos, would probably also be working with RKK Energiya or its later incarnation S.P. Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia. I was also thinking that there might be a similar project going on within CINO or OTEC. But instead of human colonization of Mars, they would be adapting humans for survival in the deep oceans. Then genetically modifying human beings to create Homo Aquaticus. Similar to the Rifters created by Canadian science fiction author Peter Watts. Uplift is a very interesting idea as well. Primate and cetacean research. Cyberpunk also seems to ignore the genetic modification of cereals, other foodstuff plants, and animals. Wayne Barlowe gives us an idea of what genetically modified dairy cows look like in his book Expedition. Seems rather short-sighted to just concentrate on the modification or human beings or the cybernetic modification of existing animals. Neo-Hyaenodons guarding a corporate installation would be more impressive than cybernetically modified Rottweilers or Dobermans. Perhaps I watch too much Primeval. I also presume that there is genetic modification occurring to create exotic pets. Perhaps combining genetic material from multiple species. Or perhaps creating creatures with multiple limbs etc. Maybe a six-legged cat out of Edgar Rice Burrough's John Carter of Mars series--the Sorak. Sorry if I am being a heretic here. Twenty years on, does it really make sense to follow canon?
  21. I will differ to a moderator on the name and use of the image in this topic. It does not appear that Autotopia is a trademark or registered trademark of Disney or its associated companies. There are other websites that use the name Autotopia including Wired.
  22. Autotopia is intended to be a collection of civilian ground vehicles created with the Maximum Metal rules. In essence, volume two of Deric Bernier's excellent Miracle Mile. Since I live in the Seattle metro area, I decided to set Autotopia within the Seattle Metroplex rather than Night City. This choice of venue does not represent a creative bias toward Shadowrun over Cyberpunk 2020 or Cyberpunk 203X. I have created some new vehicles using the Maximum Metal rules that I will post shortly and I would appreciate comments, suggestions, and corrections. I would also like to encourage you to post civilian ground vehicles that you have created using the Maximum Metal rules.
  23. ALDERWOOD AUTOTOPIA The Alderwood Autotopia, located in the city of Lynnwood within the Seattle metroplex, offers the largest selection of new and used automobiles, trucks, motorcycles, and recreational vehicles in the state of Cascadia and is one of the largest malls of its type in the United States. Only the famous Miracle Mile in Night City comes close to the selection of new and used vehicles! Just minutes north of downtown Seattle on Interstate 5! Hours Monday-Saturday 10:00am-9:00pm Sunday 11:00am-7:00pm
  24. PPS-- In the world of Cyberpunk, we might imagine parliamentary victories of the National Union Party or a fictional right-wing political party with Neo-Zionist beliefs who is dedicated to the ideal of a "Greater Israel" and the annexation of the Palestinian territories (the West Bank and Gaza strip.) Perhaps going so far as reconstituting the Land of Canaan (modern-day Israel, Palestinian territories, Lebanon, and the western parts of Jordan and Syria). The government in power may believe that it is impossible for Arabs and Jews to live together in peace and the Arab attitude toward Israel has its roots in antisemitism. IMPORTANT: The previous and following paragraphs do not reflect my political views or beliefs nor should they be implied, or interpreted, as advocacy for the establishment of Greater Israel or Neo-Canaan or the philosophy of Neo-Zionism. Nor am I anti-semtic, pro-Palestinian, or pro-Arab. This is a fictional setting for the Cyberpunk role-playing game based on history and speculation. See "The Future of the Past in Israel": http://www.press.umich.edu/pdf/9780472115419-ch8.pdf They consider Arabs in Israel to be a fifth column and pose a demographic threat. From their point of view, the only solution to achieve peace is "deterrence and retaliation." Perhaps the deportation of Palestinians and Arabs residing within Greater Israel or the reconstituted Land of Canaan. The United States would continue to give financial and military assistance to this Greater Israel. Perhaps United States troops and equipment or United States-based Private Military Companies (PMCs) supplementing the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
  25. Post script: For the most part, I believe that the canon Cyberpunk timeline is dated reflecting the late 1980s and extreme to be totally unbelievable in places. I am thinking that a nuclear exchange involving Iran, Iraq, Libya, Chad, and the [united] Arab Emirates reducing these nations to "radioactive slag" would have global environmental and health implications. It would significantly change the world as we know it. In light of the "Arab Spring" of December 17, 2010 to the present, I am thinking that the "Mideast Meltdown" is more of a revolutionary wave of demonstrations and protests erupting into civil war rather than wars between nations. I am imagining far limited use of WMDs, perhaps more use of chemical and biological rather than nuclear to quell civil unrest. I am thinking that these uprisings and rebellions in the Middle East result in destruction of the oil infrastructure of these nations disrupting global supplies of oil. Civil unrest in these countries making repair or rebuilding of the oil infrastructure difficult or impossible. Refugees could just be trying to escape the civil wars rather than resorting to irradiating most of the Middle East or imagining that the entire Middle East is a sheet of glass from sand fused by the heat of a nuclear blasts. Perhaps the use of nuclear weapons is perpetrated by Jihadist terrorist groups, such as al-Qaeda, against the House of Saud in Saudi Arabia or other regimes in the Middle East.
