  1. I see what you mean about the "extra" effects of the high body.

I think the reason it's so easy to crank up "BOD" is a two part thing.

The first is its all encompassing nature, it's strength, constitution, size, toughness and all sort of other things lumped into one, splitting it up into at least 2 areas would probably help and be more realistic.

The second thing is its easy to crank up because physiologically it'd likely be the easiest one to crank up.

Both the muscular system, and the skeletal system are biologically easyish to augment using current technologies, so extrapolating into the future, it'll still be easier to boost BOD, than it will to boost the Int or the Tech or Ref which are all based in the nervous system.

And when you start adding bonuses for strength to bonuses for toughness to the same stat, it's going to mount up fast.

  2. Personally I'm a big fan of BTM. It makes perfect sense to me.

If I shoot someone like Sarah Michelle Gellar in the arm with a 9mm, chances are it's going to disable her little sticky arm pretty much instantly, it might even blow it off completely.

If I shoot our Hanns with a 9mm, he'll say "ow", and then proceed to tear my head from my body ;) Simply cos the guy can bench press a tank and has huge arms.

This is how I equate the "real-life" stuff to the BTM mechanic.

But I think phipps is probably right, and under the current system weapons just sometimes don't do enough damage

  3. I think I'd like to see a more focused combat system. Perhaps with the levels everyone has mentioned here.

Firstly, seperate armour penetration and tissue damage stats, yes Interlock uses the AP/hollowpoint "modifiers" but it's not really enough. But then it's also looking like it'd get quite complicated, which is never a good thing in the middle of an exciting bit of the game

Secondly some way of having the result of the "to hit roll" influencing the damage caused. If someone has Reflexes 10 and Rifle 10, and rolls a 10, perhaps this should be rewarded when the damage is rolled, representing a good clean fatal right in the eye socket type shot, rather than something that just nicks the target's ear. Something that can happen when d10 comes up trumps for the to hit, and the d6's decide they just don't like you.

  4. "Christ Thumper!" The chief isn't pleased, but then he isn't surprised.

He gets up out of his chair and walks around the desk over to the door. He presses his thumb down onto the lock of the door, and with a short electronic "oooo" sound and the changing of an LED from green to red, the electromagnetic door locks them both in the office. He turns and sighs...

"OK, 2 clips, nothing more. What calibre"

  5. Rat and Bloodbath find Coffee out and about in a place called "Kelly's Bar" it's an Irish place, the sign over the door is a neon edged shamrock. No-one knows who Kelly was, whether it was even a real man, or just a good ol' Irish name.

There's not too much of the smoke that should haunt a dive like this, the air-recyc sifts most of it out, but the smell of the beers hangs thick, almost thick enough to see. There he is, sitting at the back of the room at an round old oak table.

There's a smile on the old man's face when he sees his protege, but Coffee doesn't get up he just smirks and pats the chair next to him.

  6. Jesus might even go a little white, in the bar and with his colouring it's hard to tell.

He hold's Shrap's gaze for a moment, before starting to blab. There's only a faint trace of a hispanic accent.

"I don't know if this is the bird you're looking for, but I did refit an airframe recently. It was an old Arasaka going cheap, but you know they have such strict standards so it was still airworthy with a little work . Obviously I didn't ask too many questions I just fix 'em get 'em airworthy y'know"

His voice trails off leaving it open.

"Tell you what though," he says touching his finger to his lips  and nodding his head. "The invoice for the turbofans, they came in new see, someone obviously didn't want them to be reconditioned units, Drake Recruitment!" He snaps his fingers and points at Shrap

    "Drake Recruitment"

  7. I've never really considered the exact mechanisms of computers in my games, I've always considered it pretty much a "black box" technology, the still have boards and chips and the like, and that's all most folks would ever need to know.

I guess, quantum computers would be the next logical step, but I tend to deal more with the descriptive aspect than the technical.

  8. Betty smiles and goes to the bar returning presently with their order. As she places the last glass on the table she hesitates slightly, making eyecontact with Shrap they hold each other's gaze a fraction longer than normal and she knows that they're here on business.
  9. As Thumper is walking in to the security area Texas, one of the girls at the club, is walking out, she calls back to the chief,

"Ok so I'll go with the HK then, Hey Thumper"

She slips out of the office under the solo's outstretched arm, and when she's safely past, Thumper shuts the door behind him. The security chief looks up and nods.

    "Thumper..."

  10. Vacation Time

I'm off to the beach with my girl for a week guys, so I'll see you when I get back about the same time next week :)

If you want to keep these great "down-time" posts going then I think that'd be cool cos I trust you all not to do "dumb-stuff" :)

    Laters,

    Mon :D

  11. There are some very "cool" people on that list, Vin Diesel comes to mind. Every girl (and some of the guys) I know thinks he's a hottie. The Harvard grad and rockstar Tom Morello, I think he's kinda cool.

But some of the others I'd really rather hadn't admitted to being involved in the hobby ;) (and we wonder why we're perceived as a group of nerdy, 140lbs geeks  ??? )

  12. Quote (Chrysalis @ Aug. 12 2002,14:36)
    "...Mother Mary quite contrary
kiss the boys and make them wary
things are getting just a little bit scarry..."
    -Lie, Awake, Dream Theater

I know all about the honour of God Mary-Jane ;)

  13. Shrap leads the way into the dimly lit techie hangout. Folks strain to see the new arrivals and a few of the regulars nod as the pair enter.

A few folks crane their necks a little harder to scope out Neko. As the pair venture deeper into the place, the solo's cyberaudio picks up snippets of conversation.

"who's that with Shrap?" "Where's Rat?" "I heard they split"

A few blocks over, in the heart of the city, Thumper's taxi pulls up in front of his place of business. The place isn't fully open yet, but the door is opened by "The Shark" a burly man, with heavy, rough and easily visible skinweave. He grins his chrome grin at his colleague, metal teeth catching the rays of sunset before he shuts the door behind them.

  14. Well, it might have to come to that yet!!! I've theoretically got a new certificate "in the mail" but I have a feeling that even the receipt from the transaction, and a letter of confirmation of payment won't do with the British Bobbies :(

We'll just have to wait and see!!!

  15. I haven't been around much lately, cos some bugger in a stolen Vauxhaul astra sideswiped my shiny red Italian penis exten... sports car :(

And I seem to have mislaid my "certificate of insurance" that the police would like to see as my car was parked on teh street at the time :(

So I'll try and get my head back here a bit more until I get hauled off to jail, or my new insurance certificate arrives, so apologies to my gamers, but I'm sure you guys understand.

  16. GM Note - It looks as if the group will split up into smaller groups for a while Thumper to hunt out some hot ammo, Shrap and Neko to the Live Wire etc, either by a series of drop offs around the city or some Taxi work etc.

I'm planning to run all three in parallel in this main thread, so PM each other or post up OOC to let folks (and me) know who's going with whom :D

  17. The sun is hanging ever lower in the sky now, its obscured by some of the higher buildings of the city. Around the horizon the sky has taken the red tone of the leaves of the trees, above you it's still that gorgeous crystalline blue, with hardly a cloud in sight. The temperature is starting to drop now that you're out of the direct sunlight and a slight wind blows the fallen leaves down the street sending them swirling, rustling around the parked cars.

There are a few, maybe four or so hours to go before you are scheduled to meet Tony at Gandolfini's.

  18. I'm sure folks do see Cyberpunk as Shadowrun's poor relative, maybe because in terms of financial backing I'm sure it WAS.

But it was also more underground, and that made it cooler and more stylish, almost by playing Cyberpunk you were closer to the edge than you could ever be playing Shadowrun. Back in their heyday as stupid as it may seem in my area, CP players used to look down on Shadowrun players for being "sell outs" and too "mainstream". Shadowrun players were also usually the more casual gamers, CP players were usually after something a bit more "real" even the CP players versions of AD&D were grittier and darker.

I actually rather enjoyed some of the Shadowrun novels, but then I never thought they were anything to do with cyberpunk as a genre.
