Hey MonSTeR I don't supose you have any of those 500+ NPCs on computer or feel like putting them on computer and sending them to me? wink.gif

Actually they're all on 5"x3" index cards in photo albums !!!

IF I ever get round to computerising it, you're first in line smile.gif

Hold on a sec, allow me to defend myself.  First of all, he isn't a Eurosolo wannabe.  I just patterned out a very basic bodyguard, with a touch of Social skills to set him apart.  Hardly a Euro wannabe at all.

I don't know how many Cyberpunk games you've played or characters you have seen but I have always seen every Solo be this loaded down borgfest.  From my perspective, I thought I had a fairly good idea.  Opinions are opinions and everyone has them.

    Just my dos centavos,

    Tornshadow

P.S. I think Kenycr did a good job, but I _just_ started to read the character.  :)

Right, how many games have I played? More than I can remember, I've been playing Cyberpunk since the boxed 2013 edition was first imported into the UK by Games Workshop at the end of the 80s. I got the 2020 edition as soon as it was available. I've got over 500 npc's detailed out, so I guess I've been there done that seen that as far as cyberpunk is concerned. I've run several campaigns over the years and played in a few others.

I've seen all sorts of solos and I stand by my opinion that the Jazzman character you posted is a "smoothie". Lot's of non visible cyberware, specializing in, and I quote, "a lot of parties and high culture events" "He is a High Class, High Society bodyguard with excellent taste and refinement."

If this doesn't typify a eurosolo wannabe, I don't know what does?!?!? :(

There's nothing at all wrong with the character, it's just you shouldn't start complaining about the cliche of the "borgfest" as you put it and then post a near perfect example of the other huge solo cliche.

And yes, Kencyr did do a great job with Chinadoll, the sort of detail level all characters should have:)

Pardon my intrusion in the gentle meander of the stream of the majority of the posts, I wish to make a contribution to the original topic.<p>As a Canadian citizen and not privy to the streetwise of the UK, I was wondering about the nature of the illegal firearms carried by the local 'wildlife'.  It has come to my attention that there has been an influx of highly disgused weapons imported from former East bloc countries.  Single shot disposable 'cigarettes', camera guns, pen guns, disguised pen push knives, and other unobvious weapons have been appearing in the hands of UK wildlife.  I also was wondering about regular firearms (SMGs, etc) associated with criminal gangs.  Have these gun laws made a signifigant dent in the illegal gun market?  IMHO stolen military and weapon imports still make these weapons available to the gangs that want them regardless of the laws.  Can anyone please comment?  Thank you.<p>

<p><p>I've only actually encountered the use of a firearm once. A gentleman from the west midlands accosted me and demanded I hand over a sum of money equal to that which I was carrying at the time.<p>I removed the said gentleman's top incisors and proceded with my business.<p>

However I reckon if you knew the right folks in Birmingham you could get an Uzi or similar for under a £1000. But I've luckily never seen or heard of one being used. There was a guy who got hacked up with a machete a few days ago who lived to tell the tale. <p>"Promise gov, I 'ad nuffing t'do wiv it ;)"<p>I hope you could understand my Derbyshire accent ;)

As far as licensing the system, do you mean Interlock or 2020?  You see the

problem with licensing V2 is that the new game is not a new Cyberpunk. It is

the future of V2. The essence of Cyberpunk is believable near future.  2020

is not longer b.n.f.  Our future as we see it now is not a post-holocaust,

post-cold war Hardwired, Mad Max sort of world. Its even much closer to a

SnowCrash world than it is to a Neuromancer world.  So we have to go back

out to the edge again...but 2020 is still where the world came from. If I

license 2020 to someone else and they change or add history, where does that

put 203X? Yes, you could call them alternate timelines, but I think that

weakens things. Sorry, I started to foam at the mouth there. To many booth

    hours at GENCON.

See I've never played CP2020 as anything near Mad Max, I never saw it as being that way, it was always more Hi-Tech, than the post apocalypse. The only thing about the mad-max thing I used was the "Nomads" who weren't really "nomads" more like the Mafia but with muscle cars and leathers tounge.gif  I guess "family" was the operative word there wink.gif and they often used it to get npcs to help with stuff like to watch the guy in the hospital while the rest of the PCs got on with the task at hand etc.

And I don't see cyberpunk as a N.B.F. For me, it's more like a super sleek corporate present projected into the future

  5. I've had a suit in a campaign I ran for a long time.

He was the "head of special projects and creative aquisitions" meaning he handled black and grey ops especially R&D theft.

By having the Corporate PC running the other PC's black op's team it meant that he didn't have to stay in the office all the time and got to accompany the team on their ops.

Field command stayed with the black ops team, but the Corp player never had to miss out on that part f the game and was a mean pistol shot:)

Yes you have to set out exactly what resources are available to the PC and his role within the corporation but only to enhance the game rather than limit the player.

What to throw at him? Well I think psychophipps went to the extreme (he seems to do that ;) ) and I wonder if this might not unbalance the "team" aspect of the game.

Looking at the corporate skill package it can be seen that a lot of social interaction will be the order of the day here. Schmoozing the board of directors for access to the AV4 fleet and 贄 000 expense budgets and so on, Library searching to dig up the relevant structural blueprints of the enemy's corporate headquarters, ones that aren't on the net for security reasons. Maybe even using a semi-legitimate business appointment/meeting as cover or a way for his team to infiltrate the enemy office, putting the corp right at the front lines.

Maybe even have the Corp suddenly grow a heart and try to bring down his own corporation from the inside for it's unethical treatment of the environment!!!

Rival Corporate's within the same corporation may well try to foil the PC's plans looking for promotions and career opportunities, selling out the PC's team or even sending them into direct conflict with the Rival NPC team?!?!?

If you want LOTS of different Corp PCs in the same game it can take the game right to the top of the skyscrapers where you're talking about going after stock options, old style share based takeovers etc. If your PCs can engineer a shortage of titanium the other corporation will fall behind on it's delivery date and thus go into liquidation, which is when the PCs swoop in and buy all the stock to get their greedy hands on the failing rival corporation's radical new full borg design. Or something like that? A gun may never even be fired !!! :)

  6. Hmmmm the mercenary and hateful nature => *wEg*

Well revenge is always good. What Sith said is good, have each player make a detailed "lifepath" for his character and maybe pick something out of there.

Or to unite the PCs have a corporation they're worked against hire them, maybe under the direct control of someone the team has crossed and really pissed off in the past. Then they won't know if they're being hired to get the job done or if they're being set up. Especially if you don't tell them who their new employer really is!!! Keep them guessing at every step of the way, but give them enough of a taster to let them figure it out, and work out just how safe it is to proceed and/or NOT to proceed with the mission. After all - if they bail on a contract there goes the teams reputation and their mealticket!!!

Have a few things go wrong like the expected backup doesn't turn up... Is this on purpose or did they run into a new piece of jamming equipment.

The lightly guarded warehouse is the wrong one and the goods aren't there. Or it's heavily guarded, or they stumble on their new boss talking to ANOTHER of their hated enemies...

Hate, revenge, double, treble and quadruple cross, as long as they realise how dark the dark future is, it doesn't matter ;)

  7. Well said psychophipps. The 2020 rulebook says Combat sense is based on..."constant training and professionalism" which allows the Solo to "percieve danger", and gives them "an almost unearthly ability to avoid harm".

It doesn't say they react by shooting the first guy they come across. Their reaction to people should according to the rules be governed by their empathy attribute.

If i'm honest it think "solo" can be job, lifestyle or something more. Which one you apply to a character depends very much on that character, the campaign style and the exact world the game is being played in :)

  8. Well I can't speak for the sane... or even the people ;)

    But I think that's a fantastic idea.

Anyhone know how to go about finding out how to purchase it or how much it would cost? For what I consider the best game rules to be freely available would be amazing. Think of the wealth of material that might get done :)

I know a lot of people write stuff anyway, but for it to be freely available with publishing issues removed would be great.

Although being the microsoft rather than the linux would be better.

No - not for the money, just the ability to get a copy of the rules to everyone who bought a PC ever ;)

  9. Absolutely Thorn.

The last character I made (for a PBEM that I seem to have missed out on due to a erm "business trip" ;)  was a solo but one who strongly concentrated on tech skills :)

On startup, his second highest career skill was his weapons tech, and a lot of his pickup allowance was spent on electronic security and basic tech.

One day I hope to use this guy in a PBEM but my schedule doesn't allow for it t the moment :(

  10. Nope I'm not hungry (well not particularly;)

It's just that TornShadow seemed to be a little scornfull of the fact that the only 2 solo characters posted were heavily cybered up. HE then goes on to post a character that is the archetype of the other solo cliche.

    I found this a little hypocritical :(

    .

The risk is of a sabot fragmet putting the eye of a frendly out is signifigantly higher.  That is why all good cyberpunks should wear helmets and proper eye protection on their jobs.

either that or have the cloned parts already to be implanted when they get home wink.gif

  12. Wow.  3Solos.  2 Cyberpsycho maniacs and a eurosolo wannabe. How *yawn* impressive.

The "smoothie" is just as cliched as the "cyberpsycho". Sorry for the slightly offensive tone of this post admin guys, but I've had a bad day;)

but without music there's no game!

When I used to run (back in the day lol) I never used music as it proved too much of a distraction, and I wanted to have the players undivided attention focused on the game, me and each other!!!

IMHO I was able to create enough atmosphere verbally without having to rely on music.

  14. Try watching movies to get ideas, everything from "goodfellas" and "casino" to "the godfther" for mafia styles.

There's a movie with Wesley snipes and Sean Connery set in japan that might be ok for Yakuza style stuff, and I have NO idea for Triad styles?

For Voodoo style stuff and the "black gangs" use the "predator 2" stuff where they  do ritual type killings with blood markings candles and the cutting out of the heart?!?!?
