  1. Thumper takes in the scene. William the guard in the booth seems fine, the glass is probably armoured and he's more than likely prepared to give as good as he gets. He's cautious, but professional. He nods back at Shrap as the techie moves toward the black truck.

The waving guard from the Hummvee appears to have an M4. Small and light but still very effective. The cupola mounts an unmistakable old M2 .50 cal machinegun.

William turns the speaker on again and addresses Rat

"Sir, if you'd care to go with the men in the Hummer, they will escort you to the main building." His voice is calm and flat.

Neko's eyes narrow in concentration then he leans into Rat for a moment. Speaking quietly into the fixer's ear, he alerts his boss that there sounds like another Hummer on the way.

  2. William nods a knowing nod at Shrap before muttering something into his radio.

The HumVee parks up about 50 yards away down the driveway toward the lot. A black clad man gets out of the back of the vehicle and waves you forward. The engine is still running and the gunner in the cupola sits watching.

    William raises the barrier.

what else is a Jaffa staff weapon than a Particle Beam Weapon in common sense.

I have NO idea !!!???!!! But I reckon you're right, you might as well approximate them as being "Particle beam weapons" as much as being anything else.

  5. Shrap is the first to notice the black HumVee  as it rides up the road a couple of hundred yards away along side the main Krantz Technologies building. He'd been wondering when it would turn up.

Bigger and more imposing than the Black SUV's you'd dealt with before. And that's before you take into account the gunner sitting in the cupola with the large calibre machinegun.

    "Monkey" puts down the phone.

"There'll be someone here to escort you to the main building shortly"

As I've got 3G3, I could provide at least the stats for the staff weapons and other goa'uld based weapons.

    Question?

The Alien staff thingies, they're "guns"? Or does 3G3 also cover accurate statistics for alien technologies too ? ;)

  8. The feint sound of diesel engines at high revs can be heard.

    "Monkey" glances at his watch,

"Yes sir, I'll have to call it in" says the slightly electronic voice.

The guard moves over to the phone and picks up.

  9. You need to track down our Joe Q. Public. He sets his stuff in Chicago and has just started running a game set in the windy city in our online gaming section.

Oh and welcome to the forum :)

  10. Seeing the folks start to disembark from the van, the guard at the guard kiosk reaches for his radio as he momentarily steps inside, in a second or two he's back outside his hand still to his earpiece.

Being out of the van Neko's amplified hearing picks up a little of the guards conversation. "Problem", "front gate" and "advise" are some of the words he overhears.

Sure we can reproduce the exact same duplicate photon stream (laser beam) a couple of meters away but photons have next to NO MASS!  E=mc^2 still applies here.  Since mass is infintessimally small, the amount of energy used is managable.  c representing the speed of light (2.99 * 10^8 m/s) is a pretty large number.  Even if a tiny representation of mass (1g) is converted to energy, multiplied by a power of 3 power 16 results in an immense amount of energy.  (the atom bomb only converts an miniscule amount of it's mass to energy)  Transporting a object consisting of matter by translating it as pure energy would under Einsteinian/Newtonian physics would not be feasible.  It's beyond our tech level.  Nothing too soon yet though.  Unless some of the "Ancients" would like to drop off a stargate on Earth... we're out of luck in the meantime! :and:

And Lexan completely misses the sarcasm associated with the ";)" smiley..

  13. Well I believe scientists in Australia just teleported some photons of information across their lab so teleporters might not be that far off ;)

Unless you want to go with Alien technology though I'd play a loooooooooong way off in the future, several hundred years at least to allow time for terraforming and the like to take place if you want to visit other worlds and get the teleporter technology up to scratch.

  15. Well as far as I see it Rat has all the things necessary to run the net at the extent that he does. He's used Searchbots the 2020s equivalent of google or altavista and so on. Doing normal everyday stuff in a normal everyday 2020's way. He's not been going 1 on 1 vs Arasaka's mainframe and their resident Sysops ;)

It's good, fun roleplaying and the character has the skills and the cyberware to make it possible. Rat is a high INT character with some basic data handling/retrieval skills, all that's necessary to do what he's done. As far as I see it it's basic extrapolation of today using the game's technology :)

    I like it :)

  16. Whilst maintaining offices in the West City Tower in the heart of the city, Dr. Krantz will undoubtedly be found at the huge Krantz Technologies plant in the industrialized South Night City area.

The offices are at the front of the site and the R&D, manufacturing and power handing facilities are situated to the rear.

There's a parking lot out front of the wide, imposing grey building with a guard kiosk/barrier arrangement down the road before you can enter the lot itself.

You can see the building is about 5 or so stories tall. Windows are found on just a couple of the stories above teh ground floor. The reception area is glass fronted. Dark brown near black glass contrasting against the mid grey panelling of the rest of the building.

  17. Tony follows everyone upstairs gesturing to one of his men as if to let him know that this business has precedence over the man's report.

As the team assembles by the van Tony makes sure he shakes everyone's hand as a symbol of trust. He hands Rat an expensive looking business card with his cell phone number on it, the embossed lettering simply reads "Tony Benedetto, Vito Construction" and a couple phone numbers. Tony points to the one at the bottom and explains that's the number the team should use.

"Call me if you need something, or if you find something" he says pointing at the card. "I'll do likewise. First thing my people are gonna do is look at the burnt out van, tie up the undoubted loose ends there, next up is we try to trace the AV see where that ended up, that may take a while longer. Good luck" He glances round the group to include everyone in that statement.

Tony steps back from the van to allow the team to get underway.

  18. Assuming you don't already have them, I recommend searching out some old game books from the 80's by Steve Jackson Games for their Car Wars and Gurps-Autoduel games.

    The AADA Road Atlas series.

They had loads of location specific events and descriptions of all the towns in the 2030s/40s. They'll help you in the long run as well as providing an instant hit for right now.

  19. Everything is seemingly untouched. The hostiles got what they came for and left. Weapons, kit and even the van that was left when folks went to go get lunch seem exactly as they were before. If they have been tampered with, and it looks like they haven't, they've been tampered with extremely well.

Amidst the team's pledge of payback, Tony wandered upstairs and now back down. He seems to have some news for the group and is confident of his rank enough to launch into it.

"We've got two possible leads and they're both slim. First is a probable drop off vehicle, a van, burnt out 2 blocks south of here, my bets are either stolen or bought under false ID we have friends who'll verify this shortly. Second is the extraction and you'll love this. the locals say a Trauma Team Air Ambulance set down out the back so it looks like they lefft that way."

He pauses and looks to Rat for how he wants to proceed. Tony knows that despite this being on Italian ground (which means that liason between the two camps is expected), that the fixer is the real injured party by this and street etiquette means that first dibs on the assaillants are his.

Also, how imaginative are your players? I find that often they will fill in the gaps for you.

That's some of the best advice there is :)

Even if you don't do it on the fly. You can just sit them down and talk with them about some stuff they'd like to do/see or places they'd like their characters to go.

Another thing to do is to play out a film. EIther put thier characters into the situation, or make up character sheets to match the existing characters.

OR instead of playing the game get together with the group and all watch Heat and Blade Runner and Casablanca or whatever together. Talk with each other about what the cool bits were and then incorporate those into your game.

  21. Tony speaks up, not so much interjecting in Rat and Neko's business, so much as simply answering the Rats earlier remark. He's not going to interfere with the internal politics of another crew, but he's not losing sight of his own agenda either.

"No problem Rat, you've been a good friend of ours, so this is our turf in this instance"

he gestures between himself and the fixer indicating some tangibility to a previously implied unity.

"Our boys upstairs are fine, nothing some of my coffee can't fix, and yep you got someone alright,"

he nods at the blood stained floor, then continues

    "And the icebox"

He lets out a little chuckle. His face straightens, time to talk business...

A few blocks away. The cabbie nods to Shrap and takes a hard left turning back north towards the Italian district of the city. Within a couple of minutes the taxi is pulling up at the Deli. There's a police unit on the scene a few doors down, and one of the officers is talking to an olive skinned man in a sharp brown suit at the patrol car. It seems as if either the police detective's salries are higher here in little Italy, or as if there's a great deal of "respect" in this area.

  22. Vito continues "Yeah my boys at the deli are ok, didn't see 'em coming, but they're ok, Tony's got everyone there, he'll look after them good. Listen Kid, I'm gonna start making some calls, nobody in their right mind does this to us. I wanna find who's gone screwy lately."

Vito puts the phone down and as Shrap returns the handset to his pocket Thumper leans into him "We're still clean".

Tony walks over and hands Rat a mug of coffee. Focussing slowly Rat recognises the grey suited man as Tony Benedetto one of Danny Vito's top "problem solvers" and another employee of "Vito Construction".

Rat and Tony haven't worked together before but have seen each other around Vito's offices and know each other by reputation.
