  1. I personally wouldn't want to be surprised by a GM introducing supernatural stuff into a standard game of "proper" CP, but I wouldn't mind playing a game where the genres met, if I knew about the crossover before hand, or even that there was a "twist" to the game I was investing my time in.

    Fun and different = good

    Moving the goalposts = unfair

  2. You don't need to go supernatural to scare your players, but it does add another facet to the game:)

The only thing I would advise against, is "going Buffy" on a group of players who aren't into that sort of thing, especially not with their existing, long term characters without discussing it first.

However, I think most groups might enjoy a little change of scenery once in a while. Anyone else got opinions on this?

Just a little warning on some otherwise great advice.

If you make he game humm drum, you will lose players.

    Period.

I don't care if it's in the name of discourageing munchinism, thinning out a player that no one really wants in the game ( I got a good method for this) or whatever. Bored players will leave and in worst case senarios, start up a full speed ahead full on Idiot game of thier own, trust me, I've seen it happen.

recheck that humanity loss, have the Govt. call due on it's contracts, ask for a full on re-roll of characters and having made mistakes in the past do not repeat them (see the posst on cost of cyber wear and what to do w/ your players money) and try it again. Just DON"T MAKE IT ALL BORING OR YOUR GAME WILL LOSE IT!

The Public is right here, if you make it boring your players will leave.

But glazing over the fatalities with a sort of surreal calm might give them cause for thought, or they might even think it's cool ;)

The thing is though it has to be fun for all, if you're not enjoying the gmae then you need to talk to them about it. If you ARE enjoying it then break out the DU ammo and go for it :D

  4. Krantz reaches into his jacket pocket and produces his wallet, he thumbs through the cards in there pulling one out, studying it briefly and returning it before settling on a black card with a gold KT logo on it.

"This should see you alright" he says handing the card over to Rat "It's a corporate card so you shouldn't have any trouble"

He folds his wallet and replaces it in his jacket pocket. He takes another glance at the server details and pauses for thought for a moment.

"No, I can't think of anything else, but I'll contact you if anything comes up."

He extends his hand to the fixer.

"I know you'll get her back for me."

I have no interest in joining a play-by-post game.  I find it's extremely slow and hardly in the spirit of session-by-session gaming on which I was weaned.  Sorry guys.

I would like DMing a Cyberpunk game for you here, but first I think I would like to join one of yours.  Sort of a way to establish my credibility and get my own feel for the street here, before diving head-first into unfamiliar gaming turf.

If you'd like to have me in your game, drop me a line and I'd love to learn more about it.

As far as I know all of the games played here are play-by-post games, so if you have no interest in playing one of those I would think it's unlikely anyone's going to offer you a place in any other type of game (although there may be some equally slow PBeM ames as well).

Putting a few posts on other parts of the forum wouldn't hurt your chances of getting player and Ref interest either, let folks get to know you and what style of game you like and/or run and all that :)

  6. :( It seems to me like you're kinda going abou it the wrong way. You're fighting fire with fire, it's too easy for you as the GM hence my previous Death Star quote. You need to outsmart them, not outgun them. Discourage them so they don't want to wear armour and carry plasma cannons, rather than tell them off for doing so.

You said before you wanted someone to put a hurting on them. I think I'd do the complete opposite. Have someone run away from them, when it comes to the next mission to buy better wares etc. Have the guards run, abandon their posts and run for their lives.

If the team shoots them down, don't even bother rolling the dice, just state "the guard dies, so does that one, and that one too" mute it down and take all the excitement out of it.

If there's nothing to shoot, and the money comes too easily they should start to miss the excitement of "living on the edge".

But Golgotha has a good point, talk to them out of the game. Sit down and watch a movie together get some beers and popcorn and soft drinks and stuff and make it a cyberpunk night on the video. Or tell them they all have homework and they all need to rent these films before the next session.

Watch some stuff that's along the lines of what you'd like your game to be like, how you think cyberpunk should be played.

I harp on about it so much but I really think that the movie "Heat" is the quintessential edgerunner movie, it's all about being "cool" in the various shades of grey that the characters are portrayed in.

  7. I'm too young to realise the #### I'm in, and too old to do anything about it.

And yep folks may be able to out fight, and out drink me, but I'm one hell of a dealer...

Go Fish is my favourite game, whaddaya mean you weren't talking cards?

  8. Like Phipps I use the interlock system and change a lot of the background.

But to answer the Public's question as to why. I think it's basically just escapism, escapism to a place where enough is possible to make things interesting, but still real enough to let me keep my feet on the ground.

  9. Meanwhile Brunetti moves over to the second humvee, and talks with the driver a while, he seems to listen intently a few times as if to no-where, probably a cyberaudio link to the security control office.

The guards make small talk with each other, and include the team in their quips and stories. Seemingly both Krantz and Rat are getting what they both wanted here, so the situation difuses somewhat and folks get a lot more relaxed.

A guard comes over and tends to Neko's hand with a first aid kit, sterilising the wound applying synskin and then rebandaging it lightly, the high tech medicines will take care of it for the most. He doesn't say a word about how or why it happened, just professionally sees to a fellow urban-soldier.

  10. Krantz nods, "Yep that's the guy. I'll get the in-house folks to sweep the security systems and the computers, then I'll subcontract some folks in to go over it again, if they spot anything my people miss, that might give us an idea as to whether we've got a deliberate leak or not.

I can get you the files you want and a company credit card too, I can courier them to you somewhere or you can pick them up here."

    He smoothes his moustache,

"I don't think Zimmeman will be worried about the mob though, SI has it's fingers in too many pies, and puts too much money into the city in unseen ways. Hell they may even own the mafia by now!"

He jests slightly but like all the best jokes, it may well have a grain of truth behind it.

  11. Krantz nods slowly and draws a deep breath, he’s going to start from somewhere the beginning of all this.

“She met Zimmerman , ooh a while back now they were doing a deal over some high temperature alloys for SI’s aeronautics division. We're one of the only facilities with the..."

His voice trails off when he realises he's started talking about metals. He starts afresh

"One thing lead to another and kids being kids they got involved. A few months go by and he proposes, Juliet says they’re very much in love.

Only I think it’s more sinister than that, like what happened to Ben Cross. He’s after the company, I’m sure of it. Juliet is my only child and she’ll inherit pretty much everything if anything happens to me, and I think that’s his plan. Simply from a financial point of view he’d save SI a fortune, and if he personally owned the company and then offered it to his patron, well I don’t think I need to spell out the rest, but he’d be so far up the company ladder with that, they’d probably give him the Night City office.

So I tell her that I don’t trust him, he’s not good enough for her all the usual. Non of that works, I just get the ‘Give him a chance Daddy’ speech, so eventually a few weeks ago, I spell it out for her plain and simple and then this all started this morning.”

  12. "I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure."

    or even...

"There. You see Lord Vader, she can be reasonable.

Continue with the operation. You may fire when ready.

    ...Commence Primary Ignition"

  13. Electric motors hum as the rear window on the SUV goes down. A grey haired man with a moustache can be seen sitting in the back seat.

Brunetti turns round as he hears the window open. He looks for confirmation from the man in the SUV.

Dr. Krantz nods slightly and then steps down. He speaks loudly so everyone can hear.

"We can talk in here Rat"

He gestures the fixer over as the gunners train thier weapons on the team just in case.

  14. Brunetti rubs the back of his shaven head.

“Safe house huh?” he snorts out a chuckle “Don’t seem it was that safe does it cowboy?”

He shoves his hands into the open pockets of his jacket as he talks.

“But yeah I see your point. You wanna come inside for a talk that’s fine, you don’t that’s fine too.” He shrugs vaguely in the direction of the Krantz building “Where and when for this meet?”

Also, a retired cop will stil know people  in places in Govt/law enforcement. You can treat it sort of like a Corps Resources.

The way to make SA's work is be creative in their application. It (like many gaming situations) is really a GM judgement call.

I agree, Authority in this case can be used as a sort of "I know people who owe me favours" sort of thing and thus used as a resources, roll :)

In fact I've used it fairly like that for "current" cop characters, the higher authority the easer it is to rusha  search warrant through, or have other cops "look the other way" and let them have 5 minutes alone in the interview room with the suspect sort of thing.

    Good Point there Darthmurph :)

  16. Quote (Bullet @ June 06 2002,20:52)
And why cops don't own Combat Sense? Nowadays they put their asses to the line of fire pretty often,so what will happen 18 years later? Then they can talk and look scary!WTF!?!

    :uzi:          #Bullet=>   :knife:

Well the thing is Cops could be folks like "Comissioner Gordon" and have desk jobs as well as being those folks who work the point position of a SWAT team.

I personally think it's ok to say that a Solo could work in the police. He'd just have to use "intimidate" or some other skills to handle the more interactive role of being a cop.

  17. The bald tough-guy speaks. It's an east coast accent, probably New Jersey, maybe New York.

"Yeah, I'm Brunetti so tell me, why d'you drag me out of my cosy office?"

At the HumVee, Shrap's buddy talks into his radio. The techie overhearsthe word Stim, so it's obvious the guard is filling folks in on the fixer's chemically assisted state of mind.

Thumper nonchalantly walks round to the rear of the van moving himself out of the line of fire of the first Humvee but able to draw a bead onto the second, and with a slight shift in position the SUV as well.

GM note - 'Phipps, is Shrap wearing his headset?

  18. Shrap's friend simply shrugs at the idea of folks getting to see Krantz right away, but then he wouldn't know anyway. "I don't know sir" he says, these guys are courteous as well as seemingly professional. "you'll have to check with the Captain"

Thumper notices Scanlan listen in to his radio, it's coming through his helmet mic. Taking down these guys would be hard. They've got the team pretty much in a crossfire between two heavy machineguns, The best bet might be to idly stroll round to one side of the van or the other and use it to block line of sight in case things escalate. Taking out the cupola gunners is obviously first priority, but getting both before either had a chance to fire would require serious luck and/or serious reflexes.

    Scanlan simply states at Rat

"Captain Brunetti will be here shortly sir."

He takes a step back out of Rat's face. He's been superceeded. Glances are shot towards the building and a familiar looking black SUV makes it's way up the driveway towards the scene of the confrontation.

The SUV pulls past Shrap and the first HumVee and stops just short of the security booth. A man climbs from the driver's seat. He's bald, with perhaps a trace of thin grey hair around the back of his head. Perhaps 40 or so years old. He's dressed like his men, black combat fatigues and boots, but instead of the bullet-proof vest get up, he wears a nylon jacket with a big yellow KT logo on the back similar in design to those worn by the FBI and police in order to stop them getting shot by their own men. Chances are this is Brunetti and that he's wearing that jacket because he thinks it makes him cool.

He's new a Krantz Technologies, and wasn't working hear the last time the team help Juliet out of trouble.

He starts to walk over to Rat.

  19. Shrap's new friend half converses with him and half keeps his eyes on Rat. He shakes his head, "Nah you're cool for now, they'll tag it all in security."

50 yards away, the jogger slows to a walk as he approaches Rat. His nametag bears only his surname, Scanlan he must be 6'1" or 6'2" and at least 220lbs.

He barks at Rat almost as if straight out of the army.

"Sir, I must ask you to proceed to the main building or leave Krantz Technologies property." His weapon is gripped in both hands, ready, but he's not gesturing threateningly with it. The HumVee moves up close on the other side of the booth, keeping it's wheels on the grass verge but still affording the gunner a clear shot of the van and the team.

  20. William gets on the phone again. If he's losing patience he's not showing it.

A second HumVee similar to the first rolls up along the road you just arrived on and pull onto the side of the road about 100 yards away flattening the coarse grass as it does so.

Inside the booth William shakes his head as he talks but remains calm.

He puts the phone down and talks into the radio microphone that hangs down beside his chin. The second HumVee rolls up ever closer along the sparsely covered grass verge. A guard gets out of the rear driver's side door as the truck rolls forwards more slowly. The guard starts jogging towards the booth and the team under the watchful gaze of the cupola gunner.

As Shrap reaches the first HumVee the guard there gives him a knowing nod and smile mostly in gratitude but also a little in recognition of thier mutual amusement.

I've never seen the show, but I know that for most subgenres there are rules mods on the net that'll sort you out if the ones in the basic rulebook (and the chromebook supplements) don't have what you're looking for.
