  1. "Gandolfini's to be sure. You'll be well taken care of there."

Tony checks his watch and looks round the group before settling his gaze on Rat and raises his eyebrows looking for a response from the crew's boss.

  2. Well a lot of the original drawings ARE from the 80's so that's kinda going to make sense ;)

I don't know where fashion will be in 20 years time, but I doubt it'll be all that different from how it is now, like it hasn't changed that much from the 80's when Cyberpunk first started. The thing is I don't see that many changes in a lot of the clothes most folks will wear, business men have worn suits for the last century, combat fatigues have been pretty much the same for 30 or so years, even in the cut and fabrics have changed a little. But if your characters want to wear the latest urban flash then yeah, mix and match from every source you can find :)

Remember the key to any RPG is if you don't like it change it.

  3. In the future physical incapacity is only temporary, they can get new "cyber-bits"

The best way I've found to incite vendetta is to show folks how vulnerable they really are.

FIX's .357 cartridge on the table is just the start of it. Use it as a warning.

Have the BA's be in one of the character's home's one night, or their local haunt. Have them isolate one of the characters and physically restrain said character and then cut out an eye, break all thier limbs or something similar. It's nothing serious in 2020, and could be done in a very "non-damaging" way, almost surgical in it's approach. They can get a new eye, real or cyber really easily bone heal with speedheal in no time etc. After a couple of weeks in hospital, which is nothing really they're back in 100% health.

It's pure bullying CP2020 style, and it humiliates the character into wanting revenge.

  4. Both men start to dissassemble thier weapons, the blonde techie easily get his gun down to the bare parts before the mafioso. Tony looks across as he finally gets the weapon into it's components. Shrap is already reassembling his gun. The Italian raises his eyebrows part in appreciation part in shock, and hurriedly starts to get his weapon back into one piece.

Too late, the resounding crack as the large calibre sub machine gun fires, can be heard above the noise of the construction machines. Shrap lowers his gun, just as Tony slaps the magazine into place.

He starts to laugh with the HK in his hand. He places the gun on the floor of the van, and still laughing picks up the money and hands it to Shrap.

  5. Tony laughs a hearty laugh, and then reaches into his jacket pocket. He produces a crisp 50eb note from the folds of the Italian leather wallet.

    "You're on"

He smiles and places the gun down first and then the money on top of the bill that the techie put down. He looks around for a moment, and then pauses.

    "12mil' ammo?"

He says as he half heartedly looks to make sure they both have rounds available.

GM - note, I propose to run this as a simple opposed roll contest. Each contestant Tony and Shrap will roll twice on their weapons tech skills, once for the stripping down and once for the reassembly. The totals will be added up, and then the winner will be obvious.

  6. I'd like to say I had a collection of fantastic deaths to comment on but I don't.

Most character deaths I've witnessed in CP at least, have been brutal and kurt affairs.

The most memorable one wasn't a death but it was the end of the character, after an unfortunate firefight, the character was hospitalized and the last time the character was seem in the game was actually a hospital visit by the other PCs.

Ironically I don't remember the conversations but I do remember the general feeling of the scene and that there was some very mature roleplaying going on as the team and thier electronic security specialist parted company.

  7. Yep my Girlfriend introduced me to the Blade movies, and I too think they have great cyberpunk "style".

I also think his car's cool too. Which we'll all admit is a VERY important facet of Cyberpunk ;)

  8. I started thanks in part, to my father's interest in wargames, so there were always games around and models of tanks and soldiers and the like. I got my first "Fighting Fantasy" book a looooong time ago, I think I got "the Forest of Doom" first a Long time ago. It was published in 1983.

  9. Neko selects the other Ingram, and attaches the silencer and then joins the Viking and his fellow Solo in chewing up the sandpile.

Tony Puts his arm round Shrap's shoulder and steers his view to the inside of the van,

"Everything you need should be right here, and you call me Tony"

With that he tugs at the fabric of his pants a little and clambers into the back of the van skillfully dodging the weapons laid out on the floor, he rummages a bit and without turning round hands a cleaning kit back to the techie.

As Shrap starts to go over the guns, Tony clambers out of the van again and starts to strip a couple more of the firearms. As Tony gestures towards him, holding up parts for approval, the blonde techie notices that the mafioso works with a calm and fluid style the sort only gained through plenty of experience. Perhaps there's a reason that his business card doesn't state what exactly it is he does at Vito Construction?

Thumper reluctantly hands over his HKs for inspection, the barrels cooling in the autumn air, they go last.

All the guns, the Ingrams, the FDAs, the Kalashnikovs and Thumper's HKs are in good working order, the actions are smooth and the retooling is to incredibly small tolerances as it should be from CNC machines in the 21st century.

  10. GM Note - I picked the M2012 out from the main rulebook on p55  I wanted to use stuff that everyone would have access to even if they didn't have lots of the supplements.

The stats I'm using are for a weapon chambered for the 7.62 (nato?) round.

    Rif +2 N P 7.62(6d6+2) 30 4 VR 400m 1400eb.

BUT because I'm a nice guy and no expert on firearms, I'll go with Phipps' suggestion of increasing the ROF to 30 it'll also no doubt make the weapon even MORE illegal ;)

    which'll make it

    Rif +2 N P 7.62(6d6+2) 30 30 VR 400m 1400eb.

And yes Mr.Vito is being generous, however one might anticipate that he might expect something in return at some point. "I do for you, you do for me" sort of thing.

  11. Behind the steel and concrete tower, in a cordoned-off area Thumper fires at the huge pile of building aggregate, the bullets dissappearing into the sand. They'll end up in the very fabric of the building never to be seen again. The HKs seem as accurate as any 12mm SMG can be.

A couple of workers look round but pay very little attention, they're all used to this sort of thing, some of them may even have been with Vito Construction since the city was founded nearly 30 years ago.

  12. Tony walks Rat to the nondescript van and slides the side door open. On the floor lies an equally nondescript tarpaulin.

Tony throws it back to reveal a selection of firearms.

Thumper  and Neko automatically move to flanking positions and nod to each other as they pickup the guards stationed out of the way a few cars over to keep this bit of the parking lot private for the time being. A couple of guys in jeans and military surplus jackets, so not to look too out of place on a construction site, with what look like Ingram Mac14s, with the silencers removed they're small and concealable.

The arms on the floor of the van are laid out neatly, 5 AKR-20s, a couple of HK MPK-11s in standard configuration, a couple of Ingram Mac14's with removable silencers, small enough to hide under a jacket when dissassembled, but as inaccurate as hell. The only big guns there are a couple of Fabrica De Armes M-2012s in 7.62 mm. There's plenty of ammo and a few spare clips too.

    Tony speaks up,

"I've got you all some Kevlar lids, and yes they've got face shields to go with if you want 'em. Plus Flak-vests for each of you and I took the liberty of getting you a couple of those heavy vests"

He points towards the back of the van somewhere.

"There're grenades and rounds in the boxes."

He continues pointing inside the van then turns to Rat

"They're all clean, been done on the company's auto-fac machines so you shouldn't have any trouble there. Come on we can test them out round the back?"

Tony carefully uses the plural, including the team and himself implying the mafia's involvement here and the safety (and obligation) that goes with it. He gestures to the rear of the construction site, behind the growing skyscraper to accompany his offer of testing the merchandise.

  13. A round trip to DaSilva Electronics gives the team access to whatever electronic devices they require. A new computer for Rat and the components to enable Shrap to fix Neko's smartglasses as well as any miscellaneous gear that the team decides it needs.

By 3:30 pm the van is heading back Southwards to one of the inner city redevelopments being undertaken by non other than Vito Construction.

The construction site's parking lot is busy but Thumper spots Tony and points over Bloodbath's shoulder as the viking guides the van over to where the mafioso stands beside a black classic 90's Borgatta F15, a last century Italian supercar. An unmarked beige van is parked beside it. The old man draws to a slow halt as Shrap is already sliding the side door open.

  14. This is just a thank you post to the players and readers of the game for sticking with it for so long inspired by Snowtiger's post in the game about Neko getting a chance to prove himself.

I just want to let folks know that even though I run a very "steady" game (maybe read that as slow;) ) I want to continue running it as long as there are folks who want to play.

I have "episodes" sketched out for all the PCs even though it's seemed to center on one or tow of them so far. I just hope folks will stick with it as the story arc unfolds. Having said that, I'm not gonna railroad anyone into stuff and am continuing to adapt and change as we go along.

I'm thoroughly enjoying playing this game and I hope you guys are too :)

    Thanks :)

  15. Well one thing I'd ask is what do they want from their old characters? Is it a shot at revenge? Is it a second chance? Or is it just some more adventures in familiar shoes?

If it's the revenge thing, and it'll lead to a fun story then I say go for it, have them cloned, or brought out of the regeneration tank or whatever same goes for the second option.

If it's the third one, and they just want the same characters rather than a continuation of the story, just pickup the characters from a point convenient in the timeline and take it forwards as an alternative storyline with no mention of the way they met their end.

  16. Tony pauses for a second as if making a few notes as he listens, you can almost imagine him pulling back his sleeve to check the time.

"How does 4pm sound? I can get a half decent collection assembled for you by then. That'll give you a couple of hours to get what you need and head to somewhere safe for the meet."

  17. Quote (Snowtiger @ July 07 2002,11:44)
Kick a dog, and it just runs away.

Kick a cat, and its gonna take your toes with it.

Kick any animal, out of anything other than defence, and I hope you go to prison to make "special friends" with Rosco the weightlifting serial killer :p

  18. Darthmurph has a great point about how far can you push the boundaries of Cyberpunk and still have it remain Cyberpunk.

Maybe this new "biopunk" phenomenon is a more accurate portrayal of what is likely to come, but I think that to allow folks the room to suppose that whatever discoveries will be required to reach the levels of technology desired in a game setting is the way to go.

If you want to base your world on the discovery that allows neural/electonic interaction to work flawlessly, have it discovered back in 1998 and kept under wraps by whoever until it was ready for public consumption.

If you want bioware to be readily available, even if the coding function of protein is chaotic and not linear as was thought for years (I was taught the linear model), have someone discover the biological key to channel this stream to getting the correct results 97% of the time. If someone's discovered that it works along the complexity theory, have someone else discover the underlying trends and a way round any difficluties that arose as a result.

The one thing I see lacking in the CP2020 game is the computer technologies (I think Joe Public talked about this elsewhere too) I try to integrate incredibly powerful computers into my game, a few years ago I bought a 400 Mhz machine, in a few months it'll be a 4 GHz machine, in 20 years or so... who knows what the possiblities are?

Anyway I'm so far off topic now, I think I'll leave it there and put Macauley on my "to read" list :)

  19. "Yeah no problem" Tony continues, he seems glad to have the ball rolling on this. "Where are you now? I'll get something sorted and we can arrange a meet, if you want the regular stuff I can get you clean merchandise straight away, anything more might take a little time."

  20. One of Rat's phones buzzes in a pocket. He reaches to answer it.

    "Rat, it's Tony,"

pleasantries are exchanged before he moves onto why he's really calling.

"Do you want the bad news or the intriguing news?"

Tony doesn't wait for an answer,

"The van, bought this morning under fake ID, I'm "informed" the NCPD are running the vid of the buyer, chances are they may well get a match on him, so that's a possible."

    He continues,

"And here's the fun stuff, we talked to some of 'our friends' at Trauma Team, that wasn't one of their birds, at least they have record of one being called to the deli and all the birds can 'officially' be accounted for. That leaves us with either a fake TT bird or a TT crew on the take."

  21. As a GM, I let the character live where it's appropriate. If I was playing a high level/corp game where money was abundant then everyone would have a nice place, maybe bought, maybe rented heck maybe one of each, or more. They might sleep rough sometimes, especially in mid score, or even use hotels, but they'll always have a more permanent abode, or the means to aquire one if they wish.

If I'm running a low level game, then the players might doss in an abandoned house/squat type place. Or they might rent coffins every night.

Generally I allow the players the appropriate dwelling to the lifestyle they live.

As a player I've always been afforded the same common sense by my Refs.

  22. The second HumVee starts to roll forwards and Scanlan jogs over hops in as it catches up to him. The barrier to the facility raises and the black truck moves around the outside of the team's van and then drives towards the facility the gunner facing forwards now the situation has been resolved peacefully.

Brunetti walks over to the SUV and seemingly talks with his employer, nodding occasionally at what one would guess were the ideas on security and the like. He glances over a couple of time, checking the situation but not doing so threateningly.

The vans V8 engine ticks over with the familiar rumble as the team prepares to move off.
