  1. I stumbled across this interesting bit of passive detection tech while wandering the web and have turned it into something that drives players absolutely mad.

A technique used by The Orbital Angels when hunting a target within an urban environment. Called Variance Based Radio Tomographic Imaging or VB-TRI. The principle works like this: An individual/organization wants to see inside a particular area without using an active scan that would tip off any local sensor that a scan was being made. This trick takes advantage of local wireless nodes that are ubiquitous in most dense urban areas by measuring the transmission and reception of common radio and various wireless signals, variations in the waves can be detected that can indicate someone or something moving through the area. this allows observers to map the positions of any movement inside a given area, thus detecting what room someone might be in.

Given the average amount of wireless crap is likely to be in use in Night City or any other sprawl, This makes for a very nasty surprise for pcs when the OPFORS don't have to be look to get a very good idea where you are (within meters).

And given most wireless tech is unsecured (think your average wireless repeater node on just about everything), all you need is is software suite that can tract the transmission and lag times of data inputs and render it in a Trideo or VR feed.

And what is the result. a completely passive and very accurate sensor system that the players will not be looking for. Great for zeroing in with smart systems. And the players will have no clue at all.

  2. here's hoping that CP2077 gives CP a decent relaunch, yes?

CPv3 was simply TransHumanPunk that was a tool kit to be used. Use some parts, ignore others and roll with it. but I understand why it was unpopular with some folks, so I hope CP 2077 gives us a bright and shiny new world to play with.

But then I heavily used Dark Metropolis and Grimm's Cybertales to help thing retain the warped feel for the players.

  3. the system in and of itself is not bad (needs few tweaks). The setting does need a revamp as Zeerust has set in on many aspects. Which I why I kibbled parts of of V-3 that I found workable and threw ian few other things and set the blender to puree.

I ended up with something resembling Appleseed/Bladerunner/BGC. players had not problems with it. I will be curious about C5

  4. CPv3 = Transhuman Punk.

And as my game was a Fusion (pun intended) of Cyberpunk 2020, Bubblegum Crisis, and Transmetropolitan on Absinthe, CPv3 was a lovely data mine of new concepts for me to fiddle with and rip what I wanted from it. some concepts I ignored (The Reefs) , but others I took (like the living Night City) and Ran with. Yeah it's sci-fi, but let's be honest, Cyberpunk is a subset of Sci-fi.

granted people got some weird abilities, but Cyberpunk stories are at their heart a Film Noir setting, once you strip away of the glamour and glitz. I did, and the players enjoyed themselves. as they felt it was cyberpunk. But really with all the other stuff added on...it was TransHumanPunk.

  5. yeah, Motoko and Baoto were well past full conversion and were almost digtial intelligences, except for a few scraps of meat here and there. an da good potion of the population had coretex's replaced with digital hardware. the line got very grey on the whole humanity thing.

I still think that GITS is perhaps a example of cyberpunk and Post cyberpunk fused together
